Can I upgrade my VIP 622 to 722 without a new contract?

What is interesting about the article is the author is writing about a Motorola STB. Most Cisco, Motorola, and Directv boxes are Energy Star rated that tops out at slightly under 30Watts. Yes we have no bananas (or Echostar receivers).:D

HD Bitrate is under 5 Mb/s for most channels - is this correct?

For those complaing about bitrate. I would be more likely complain about video/audio quality. As technology atvances, I'm not sure the 2 are as connected as one might assume. My example would be VUDUs excellent streaming quality at 1080p (even sequential 3D) at 4.75 to 6 Megabits/sec.:D

Should I switch to Dish network?

I've had both Dish and Direct. I don't, currently, have a dog in the fight. This is my opinion. If you love sports and your team is not available on local RSN's, Direct is a better alternative, if you're willing to pay the extra fee. When I was on Dish I got Altitude, Fox RockyMountain and...

    HDMI help (Non Dish Related)

The BDPS570 supports the new 1.4 HDMI which provides for among other things bi-directional signal. Not sure if that is the issue, but you might check with someone wiser than I to find out.:D To setup, if you scan instead of using manual mode, your network will show first and set up is very...

HD PQ for primetime Network shows - facial artifacts (or microblocking)

What network/networks does the macro blocking occur? In most cases that's caused by an encoding error from the broadcaster, ussually over compression. Are any of your locals multicasting? Does the macroblockin all the time or only on sports?:D

HD piocture quality on Uverse is equal to antenna at my home. Not sure how you could do better, as long as your locals aren't over compressed.:D

OFFICIAL DISH / FOX ORDEAL DISCUSSION THREAD

My wife asked me about Hallmark when it went off. I'd never watched it and she had never completed a program. As was mentioned providers are in program negotiations almost constantly. Think as your provider as the guy in your corner. A good negotiater is like a good cut man. Some (maybe...

    TV Recomendations

Digital audio out on 722 is Toslink (optical cable) also most modern TVs will also have that output to go to a stereo/surround receiver. It sends excellent stereo sound, but not capable of digital surround.:D

    TV Recomendations

Some televisions (ie. Sony) have excellent D/A decoders. For these, HDMI is far superior to component. Others reasons: single cable solution, passage of 5.1 and 7.1 audio (to pass that analog takes AC3 decoding and 7 cables for audio only) . 3d, on 1.4 devices bi directional, and often same...

    Sony Movie Channel

Am pretty sure that the Sony Movie channel is the first, 100% owned by Sony, TV channel in the U.S. They are part owners in a couple of other channel, one in conjunction with Lionsgate and Comcast and another with DirecTv and GSN.:D

    Dish 322 - IR for 2nd TV?

The second remote needs to see through walls as it doesn't have line of sight to your receiver. If you want to put in an infra-red blaster from your receiver to your second tv it could work, if you could label number one tv number 2, and I beleive the RF remote can be set RF or IR. Not sure the...

Dish Network is pissing me off......badly.

My story is different. I had ugraded (purchased a 8000, then 2-622s) 4 months after upgrading to a new 622 for the wife, I had a receiver failure. Had warranty, replacement unit lasted 2 weeks, third receiver i day. Asked for new, not refurbished receiver. Was told that what came was what...

Dish Network is pissing me off......badly.

I, also, am in DirecTv purgatory, after 11 years with Dish for similar reasons. That was 1 year 5 months ago. The only positive on Diwreck has been excellent reliability on signal and equipent. I probably would stay with DirecTV, save for $200 Direct shorted me on the equipment, regardless of...

    "most valued" or "top" customer?

They told me that for several years. I always carried the top package or the top package+premiums. Added HD in 2004. Warranty in 2001. It didn't seem to matter, one way or the other, until I asked them to disconnect. They made me feel like they were losing their firstborn. Offered 2 722s...

    When will SD "go away"?

I'm glad you qualified that. While most programming for TV was film based (including such classics as "I Love Lucy") many (The Honeymooners) were analog quality video broadcasts. Also there were many aspect ratios (Hogan's Heroes) I'll be happy when all video has its best possible digital...
