The compression is getting out of hand

The compression is getting out of hand

Agree, I'm watching OTA in Minneapolis and it is still garbage. FOX is terrible, local subchannels, satellite compression, no one gives a rats ass about quality anymore. I have noise reduction cranked in order to make it watchable.

So is 720p actually better than 1080i?

Just had Lasik last month, 20/15 now so don't think that is it. ?

So is 720p actually better than 1080i?

I don't recall the last time I watched a satellite or OTA program and went, wow that is how HD should look. New technology has been used to maintain, at best, the PQ they had already watered down. Nothing comes close to what it was 10 years ago. But I also get the make money off the masses...

So is 720p actually better than 1080i?

I say it doesn't matter because they both suck nowadays. All this watered down, bit starved, so called HD is a joke.

    DirecTV vs Dish

I don't believe they do anymore to new customers. Went away in 2013 sometime I think.

    DIRECTV commits to Ultra-HDTV

Agree, a lot of the issues start before the provider even gets the signal

    DIRECTV commits to Ultra-HDTV

Exactly, I was getting at if they gave me bluray quality via satellite I'd be happy. And I'd have no problem losing half the channels to do so. SD isn't nearly as bad a most people think, it just looks that way because it is so over compressed. Same thing happened with HD, looked great early...

    DIRECTV commits to Ultra-HDTV

If they'd just give us full resolution full bandwidth HD we wouldn't need UltraHD.

Thinking of going to Direct, HR34 with AM21 questions

So the HR34 doesn't show full guide data for locals via AM21. Or you mean for the ones not in the database at least you can still get to them with the HR34 since you can scan?

Thinking of going to Direct, HR34 with AM21 questions

By Manage you mean thinks like delete timers, change priority etc, right? But from the HD receiver I can find something in the guide and tell it to record all new episodes without issue, correct?

Thinking of going to Direct, HR34 with AM21 questions

Thanks for the feedback Ice. Hopefully someone else can chime in about settings recordings from the other HD receivers. One more question, is the interface if the HR34 and HR24 the same? I ask because I'd like to see a demo and play a bit before I switch and my buddy has an HR24. Will...

Thinking of going to Direct, HR34 with AM21 questions

Currently with Dish and looking at getting two hoppers or switching over to Direct with HR34. I have 4 HDTVs so my thought is to get the HR34 and 3 HD receivers, along with the AM21 for OTA. With this my assumptions are: - 5 tuners, so 5 things can be recorded at one time, and 5 remains the...

Questions from a Dish Customer thinking about going to Direct.

From multi-room dvr standpoint, are the big differences more tuners on Direct but more capability (more than just pause) in remote rooms on Dish (assuming new hopper/joey)?

Questions from a Dish Customer thinking about going to Direct.

The hopper/joey will be out on the 15th. I think early this week u will be able to start requesting it. Will probably cost you $99. With direct you will probably get a good deal to switch and will have more tuners availble for multiroom dvr. I'm in the same boat as you but am going to wait...

HMC Whole Home DVR – HR34/H25 – Final questions before I switch

But by hitting record, instead of pause, from an HR25 I would essentially get all the trick play and normal DVR functions correct? Not a great solution but a work around.

Now that Cuban and D* have settled on HDNET

I recall someone over on AVS wondering the same thing and was told over the phone by a D* rep there was no need to sign up, you would be signed up automatically and the charges would show up on your bill.

    Best Output For HD

Composite and s-video cannot even pass HD signals. So of these 3, HDMI is your only choice for HD.
