Help! Bailing out of window$ at last!

I've been in tech support and technology professionally for nearly 20 years, but I have to say that at times we do tend to ridicule those who we serve. We have all heard the cup holder story, or the gas peddle one. Then there are the acronyms such as PEBCAK and ID-10T. I'm not saying it is...

Question for SatAV re Fortec Star Lifetime NA

Richard, I was able for a while to give the sensor a slight push or wiggle it a bit and things would work, but only for an hour or so. Other than this problem I have really enjoyed this Fortec, more so than the CS6K I think. And I know that other than the remote issue it works fine, just...

Question for SatAV re Fortec Star Lifetime NA

I read in a different thread that SatAV was the North American provider for parts (& Repairs ?) for Fortec Star. I have a Lifetime NA that I've been having problems with the remote. I have checked the remote itself with my cell phone camera and it seems to be working. In addition I had been able...

    HTPC build stalled - help?

Lone Cloud, as I understand it you are unable to boot up on the install CD? Is you CD drive ATA(IDE) or SATA? If ATA (ie ribbon connector) is it slaved together (connected on the same ribbon) with the 500GB drive? If so you need to make sure that one is set as the master, preferably the 500, and...

Help! Bailing out of window$ at last!

Dee, one thing that happened to me when I installed myth was that is seemed to want to index the drive with my DVR files on it and kinda messed things up. Don't know if it was myth or what but I bailed on it. My files were still accessible but they were all the Linux version of chk files, which...

Help! Bailing out of window$ at last!

Dee, I've been doing something very similar to what you are trying to do, so I'll toss in my 2 cents here. First off, congrats on setting up the Ubuntu on your own, yes it is easy but that doesn't detract from the achievement. Second, good for you, dump Windows! I am running Ubuntu 9.10 on my...

fortec lifetime classic NA remote problems/Failures

I too have had this problem and have been able to trace it to the sensor on the front panel. I can wiggle it and it will work for a while but then stops again. I tried re-soldering it but the problem persists. I think I'm going to have to replace the sensor, my question is does any one know...
