Some people are very susceptible to suggestion. They are told they will hear a big difference with expensive cables, so they do. They will swear they do, and almost be ready to fight you, if you tell them they aren't really hearing a difference. Especially if they bought expensive cables...

Some of us have known this for years. But, there are people out there that will swear they can see and hear a difference between a $100 cable and a $10 cable. I think they're just trying to justify to themselves, spending that much on cables. Makes them feel better about themselves, I guess.

Yes......... Since the DVR (sat/cable) is 720p or 1080i anyway, I'd just use the component cables for that, for video. The BD movies being 1080p, needs the HDMI. This way, you won't have to go to the extra expense or trouble of the HDMI switcher. If you end up with more HDMI rear to hookup...

I totally agree. Too many tests have been run with $10 cables vs $200 cables, and no one could tell enough difference to pick the $200 cables. Digital cables are feeding a bunch of ones and zeros, so the signal is either there or it isn't. If it's there, the cable is working as good as is...

I doubt seriously that will work like you want. 99.9% of the tvs out there will not pass 5.1 surround that way. The optical output on tvs is for getting 5.1 surround from the internal tuner, from your local HD channels, while using an antenna. Not for a piggy back or daisy chain connection...

He should get the audio over the HDMI, unless the receiver is HDMI "pass through" only. nicmartim......... Did you get the problem resolved? If so, how?

For regular DD and DTS, I think the ps3 has to be set to "Bitstream" audio output. The same setting will give you the HD audio, if your receiver can decode the HD audio formats. If it can't decode them, but still gives audio over HDMI, you should be able to set the ps3 to decode the formats...

I'm not familiar with the 800 series Harmony, but I have the 628 Harmony, and we like it a lot. Very easy to program online, and very wife friendly. They also have excellent customer service. You can't go wrong with a Harmony............. :)

I have an HTPC. But it's a stand alone HT. Not hooked up to main system. If I want to see a good action movie, and my wife doesn't, I'll go in the computer room, and watch it in 5.1 surround, on my computer. I like it a lot. It's a custom built computer, with XP Home Ed. on it.
