It'll be great to have another OTA channel here in the "North Country"! (and on this side of the St Lawrence River to boot)!
Thanks for all the suggestions, but for the amount of times I want to watch it, I'll go down and up the stairs. I'm down there several times a day this time of year to put wood in the furnace anyway, and who doesn't need a little exercise now and then?
;)
This question has probably been asked before. Got a new digital TV for Christmas, just out of curiosity one day hooked the cable internet line to it and scanned in 46 QAM channels. My OTA and internet lines are right next to each other in the cellar and if I want to watch the local cable news...
Watching AMC in the Welcome pack as I type this.
I have a 500 gig Magnavox box and am very pleased with it. I can record OTA and off the Dish 211. You have to program both though to timer record Dish programming.
I had a homemade antenna in the attic for a while 2 years ago while the roof was being done. With the rotor off the roof antenna and the AntennaCraft pre-amp it got decent reception, but not like what I get with the on the roof setup. Reception dropped noticeably after the new roof went on as...
Being 25 miles from the the Canadian border, I've been watching for the Canadian transition to digital TV with much interest. So far the following have switched to digital:
CBC - CBOT - old - 4 - new - 25 ( have had this quite a while)
CityTV - old - 65 - new - 17 (have had this quite a...
Or you could try your local craigslist or Freecycle. As people upgrade their TV's they no longer need a converter box. I put out a request on Freecycle and had one within a week. You might find an antenna that way too.
If you are a ways from the transmitters, you might consider a signal amplifier too, since you have to run new cables anyway. I have one of these - AntennaCraft 10G202 High Gain Low Noise Pre-Amplifier Antenna HDTV UHF / VHF Booster Signal 29 dB Gain Mast Mounted Television Aerial with Power...
I made an antenna last year to have something while the main one on the roof was down for roof replacement. It worked OK in the attic under the old roof, but when the new sheathing and shingles went on, down went the reception. When I tested it outside on the roof, I got everything I could get...
Once you get the OTA set up - and it doesn't require THAT much "tinkering", the programming is FREE! You don't get free from any cable or pay dish provider!
They are an overstock, refurbished and closeout goods seller. I have bought from them and they seem to be reputable, but have not bought antennas from them. The reviews I read were on their site.
Tonight I've got more than ever! WGRZ's, WKBW, WXXI's, TCT from Buffalo and Rochester, WNYO, WIVB, WROC, WHEC's, WHAM's, and even WKTV. It's a 5 hour drive to Buffalo from here.
Just get a Zenith DTT901 converter box. It will convert the HD signal to work on your analog TV. I would also recommend the Digital Stream converter box as well. Both seem to work good for me. You may need to try eBay or craigslist to find one though.
