    V-Box woes

Let's see, got a DMSI V-Box 6 here... I've had it for a while, and never had much trouble with it, but it's suddenly developed a problem. The positioner function still works alright via the buttons on the top and the remote control, but after a lengthy spell of being unplugged I'm no longer...

    c-band: Spun aluminum or mesh

All things considered, I would recommend mesh over any other reflector. The ones I have right now (a 10' Channel Master and 7.5' SAMI) are both mesh. They have great performance on both C & Ku bands (the perforations are ~ 1/8"), aren't battered about by the wind that much, don't impose too much...

    DSR 905 Battery Again

I haven't had the chance to personally rip the guts out of a 4DTV receiver, but the battery replacement on this should be more or less the same as on the 922. The easiest way I've seen is to replace it from the top, wrap the leads of the new battery around the leads of the old battery where they...

What do you think of this email I got from Winegard

F/D is I think diameter squared divided by 16 x depth Anyway, you're kind of lucky they responded at all, most of the queries I have like that go unanswered. I have this feeling that English isn't "Kathy"s first language...

How do I reset this thing? Drake ESR

Cool. It was the Channel up + Power secret button combination that I was missing. (Makes you wonder why they didn't just make that its own button.) Thanks mate. :)

How do I reset this thing? Drake ESR

Ho there. On my recent rampage of collecting all things dish related I've found a pretty nice old analogue receiver with all of its remotes-Drake* model ESR-1124 (from 1993) for the bargain price of nothing(It was $2400 new). Its in perfect shape, and I would like to use it as a positioner...

Better signal with or without angled waveguides?

If the -3dB figure is correct, it would be prudent to note that +3dB is approximately equivalent to doubling the signal, very good since it would be doubling the weak signal received from space, before it is amplified by the LNB. I've left the elbows off of all of my previous BUD setups with...

    Analog channels to be discontinued

I've been out of this hobby for a very long time, and am just now getting back to it after about a ten year hiatus. The last time I had a working C-Band rig, analogue was king, but I'm really surprised that there are still any VC subscription channels left-especially considering the massive...

    Can fiberglass dishes receive Ku?

I haven't personally seen a fiberglass BUD that is Ku capable, they exist-but I haven't seen one. Fiberglass itself doesn't reflect microwaves (Which is why they make radomes out of it), so as mentioned above they embed metal mesh in the reflector, if the perforations are larger that ~1/4" it...

    It needs painted

Ho there. First post (n00b). Just a quick question. I'm restoring an old BUD. I've taken it apart and cleaned it well, and repainted the frame a nice satin black, but now the mesh screen looks really faded by comparison. I'm hesitant to paint it until I find out whether or not traveling...
