Ho there. First post (n00b).

Just a quick question. I'm restoring an old BUD. I've taken it apart and cleaned it well, and repainted the frame a nice satin black, but now the mesh screen looks really faded by comparison. I'm hesitant to paint it until I find out whether or not traveling through an extra layer of paint before hitting the aluminum would attenuate the signal (In either C or Ku band). The paint in question is very thin sprayed on Rustoleum semi-gloss black over fine mesh. Any thoughts?

The paint will have no effect on the satellite signals, but it would be better to use non glossy paint. Gloss paints will reflect to much sunlight in the spring and fall causing overheating and damage to the lnb. If you use gloss paint you will need to make sure the dish doesn't point at the sun during the solar outages. These occur around the equinoxes and exact dates and times for your area can be found on the net.
