    VideoPlus Model: VP1000 Satellite Receiver

Reviving an old thread, I found one today at an auction. It's a really odd thing, because they are small, about the size of a blu ray player. There is no output for an actuator, and the channel, skew, and audio control are all done via knobs on the front. There is no remote. The manual states...

    It's a shame, really.

TV via internet is only good if you have internet. Many people live in remote locations where internet can only be obtained via satellite, and that is no good for streaming due to bandwidth caps. Satellite is the only viable option for marine use as well.

    It's a shame, really.

I've been c-band free for 2 years now. I used to love my old 4DTV system, although it seemed I was working on it more than watching it, but using 20 year old parts can cause that. I remember the wild feeds in both Analog and Digital. Surprisingly, C-Band could've been really big, had it had...

Satellite City ,Gary Cubeta and "Super ice"

Funny you should mention that. I typed his name into google and found he created "Wizard Programming" back in 1994. Wasn't "the wizard" a pirated VC2 chip or something?

Satellite City ,Gary Cubeta and "Super ice"

From what I can read on search engines, he took regular satellite equipment and "rebranded" it to make it sound more fancier than it really was, and charge high prices for it. Also, he had his own TV show, does anyone have a recording of it?

    Free to a good home.

I have a Uniden "satellite selector". It's a 2 part system that uses about a 10-12 foot control cable. It will work for the newer actuators with a sensor. not sure about the old "10k" ones. It does work. You can use this if you have a 4DTV side car, or an FTA receiver. No remote, but as...

What satellite was this? One other question.

Would be cool if one had a list of all the providers there were at one time.

What satellite was this? One other question.

Thanks for the info. Looks like the programming was sold by "private cable club". After a search I could not find out much about it. I wonder if there was any other providers that had a G5 only package? I know I've seen a couple cheap solid aluminum dishes that were fixed position. They used a...

What satellite was this? One other question.

So in other words, if you went to say turner, their "packages" would maybe not have a channel or two that say NPS would? Also, was there more ala-carte back then?

How would that dish work? I don't see a feedhorn.

What satellite was this? One other question.

At one time radioshack and a few other retailers sold a small 5 foot wide dish for a fixed position. It was a solid dish. Since it was a fixed position, I assume one could get most programming off one satellite. I think this was around 92-96. Just to clarify, I know for sure it was c-band...

    Mini-Bud is back!

The smallest commercialy made dish I have ever seen was 5 feet wide. Most were sold by radioshack for satellite TV off one satellite. With that said, several years ago I made a mini bud from an old primestar oval dish. (Not the larger round ones). I was able to pull in a little c-band with...

What brand of dish was this.

1 left? Lol. When I got out of c-band there was I think 2. ESPN and TWC. When I was given my 1st dish, it had a Drake IRD, with a black VC2 module. They most of been into piracy, because the video was in the clear, but the audio was not. I took the VC2 module out and pitched it, didn't want the...

What brand of dish was this.

How did the setup work? I know the video feeds into the VC2. But did the video feed BACK into the receiver, or to the tv? Also, what was the 70mhz used for specifically? The VC2 box...don't recall seeing a 70mhz. Also, I could not get anything to appear on tv with the VC2 box, so I take that...

What brand of dish was this.

The receiver had about 3-4 coax inputs, one was a "loop" for 70mhz. What would that be?

What brand of dish was this.

The dish itself sold with the house. I would of been interested in it, but I don't have the room for one anymore, we put a shed up and the pole had to go. Also...I don't think the dish would of done Ku as the holes were rather big. I bought a lot of electronics, and the stuff for it was in...

need help aiming my new dish

Signal QUALITY is very important. I would aim around a bit and see if you can tune ANYTHING. If you cannot, then something else is at fault. This might help you out. http://www.rangersatellite.com/installation_index.asp#Aligning_The_%20Dish

    Rookie

The 4DTV receiver is for pay TV, there are a few free channels, but not many. You will need 2 separate receivers. LNB is something that attaches to the feedhorn. A lnbf is an lnb molded into a feedhorn. The LNBFs today are made in China and suck.

    Rookie

You will need either a 4DTV receiver (not cheap) or a FTA receiver if you want more than the few analog channels left. The receiver you have is analog only. It will not pick up the hundreds of digital stations out there. There is an aluminum thing on your dish, and it's called a Feedhorn, this...

Another C Band dish going to be a umbrella shade!

Meh. Making a new mount, furnishing a motor, and making a new feed support would be too much work IMO.
  23. coinmaster32

Another C Band dish going to be a umbrella shade!

Maybe it's me but it looks like that dish was damaged before hand. Also 14 foot is kind of overkill for C-Band and then you have adjacent satellite interference to worry about at that diameter.
  24. coinmaster32

Tweaking this dish is defying the odds!

The temperature of the outside can have a major effect on reception. This is called drift. If you notice much weaker signals during the day, then an LNB replacement is in order.
