my favorite dish receiver was back in the Solo days I want to say vip 622 but it was black, I absolutely despise the whole Hopper system, always have always will. I prefer all tv have there only box own times and own dvr recordings.

622 was/is an HD Duo-user 2-tuner DVR and silver in color. Their first mass-distribution HD DVR. Maybe some could still be running? I believe it was superceded by the (black) 722, which had maybe a larger drive. You may be thinking of 612, which was/is a Solo HD DVR with 2 tuners and was black. Guess they saved a few bucks or something in not including the dual-user capability. The 622 and 722 models could be set up for independent use by different users even though there was only the 1 box- "TV2" (as DiSH called it) could run to another room on coax, got its own remote, and its own dedicated tuner (when set up that way) to watch or record without interference from the user at "TV1". But TV2 got no input in HD, that was the rub. It was a modulated SD signal on coax. The 612 could also send out (in SD) to other TVs on coax but could not independently select channels, recordings, etc.

DiSH in its infinite wisdom then thought the whole hopper thing would be the way to go rather than adding HD to extra users of same box.

Well Dish's switchboards lit up with upset customers, and I got a call from Charlie, mother f'ing me up and down for announcing it. They were not too happy.

could be the 612 I remember there being 6xx in it and it was black I vaguely remember tv2 out but I never used we had 4 of those for each tv, it was only time no one complained about DVR getting deleted or timers getting changed, cause everyone had there own box that no one touched or used for same reason no one touched there tv

Theoretically it could take the HD receiver module from the 5000 and turn it into an HD VCR, but then the Rights Holders said, "Er, no." I was hoping to get this for mine, never happened.

It could take an input from like a cc camera to display onscreen, and had onscreen Caller ID (from landline), if I recall. Also the JVC VCR unit was from the 90s as well- well before HD.

Before the 3000, 4000 and 5000 there was the 2000. It came in two versions, one IR and the deluxe model was UHF. Looked just like the later receivers. The 4000 was a huge piece of junk, it suffered from random dropouts they never fixed. I think Charlie admitted to it being due to the chipset in one of the chats.

My Tivo has a record light on the unit with 3 lines to let you know how many things you are recording. (can record 4 things). There are times I look at that and go "what the heck am I recording?" considering I only get 9 OTA stations
My other Tivo (2 tuner) actually shows it on the unit what you are recording so you don't even need to turn the TV on :)

That's quite odd, given that the 5000 was one of DiSH's earliest boxes, plus they had their early-adopt HD rx's like the 811(?) and 921. Is there a pic of this "remodulator"? How did 5000 send HD signal to it?

Folks - oddly I went from 60 digital channels in 2018 to 20 but not sure when it exactly occurred till I lost Fox5 this week so can't watch FIFA. I have the Winegard HD7000R and they are sending me a transformer in case it's the issue. I was pointing to 300 in the past but think I need to switch given a lot of channels have moved from Empire State Building to World trade center in NYC. I mostly watch 2.1 cbs, 4.1 nbc, 49.1 pbs, 21.2 wliw, 7.1 abc, 13.1 wnet. Given most channels are 270 and some are 287, should I point to 275 maybe? Also I had it on top of detached garage at 13ft. Given signal strength is pretty good for me, will a move to 22ft to a sidewall make much of a difference? Here's a view from 22ft and a lot of trees even at 60ft -

I do like some low VHF Channels like WNWT-LD (Story TV and history) so guessing I'll need long antenna. Will Classic Series Yagi YA7000C be a good fit or something else? Also is my mounting location ok?

I find it really hard to believe that antenna can do Low Vhf, plus they are gouging you on the price, but it's worth a try if you are willing to pay for it.

As for is your mounting location ok, that's impossible to tell by guessing. Mount the antenna with as clear a view too the towers as you can get, and see what happens. If it doesn't work, put a long coax extension on it, and move it around to see if you can better the QUALITY of the signal. Sometimes a foot up, down, or side to other side or so can make a REAL big difference.

Signal STRENGTH is not the end-all, sometimes a lower strength BUT higher Quality can be better, yeah that's possible to do in some cases. Peak the signal quality as much as you can on the particular stations you want the most.

P.S. I just checked the feedback comments on Amazon for Low VHF for this antenna, and they seem like it's working out ok for the most part. Buy it from Amazon, and if it doesn't work well enough, you can likely return it for a refund if you don't scar it up badly while installing

It's an art. No reason I've moved OTA antennas small amounts and got much better reception. Once, and it still makes no sense to me, lowering the antenna made a big improvement.

PS- Test the signal before using the bolts! :D

When I put 2 separate antennas at the lake house (UHF was 3 translators west and VHF was NW) the VHF antenna was flush with the tripod. If I moved it up the mast the signal got worse. UHF was at the top of the mast :) due to 1 station being 1580 watts and the other being about 14,000 watts 30 miles away.

Not me. I can see the antenna farm looming at 10,678 feet on Sandia Peak from my house. I literally bore sight along the horizontal axis and the signals blast in like a blowtorch. Yes, I know Im lucky. :)

I have the telves data boss Lr on top of a 27 foot mast and a smaller Telves data boss UHF a few feet down using the smartkom amplifier the big one is pointing north towards the main towers and the small one is pointing south to the lighthouse. extreme upstate SC. Normally 86 channels, sometimes get a couple out of Tennessee, columbia SC and Augusta Ga.

Jimmy John's used to be one of my favorite chain sandwich shops. A lot of them have closed down so now I have to go out of my way to go there. Today I was in the area so I dropped in. What a disappointment. There was hardly anything in it. I guess Im done with them now. :(

I have this old Superjack XL model QBRL302440A, 36 inches C-band actuator and I'm searching for the upper rubber booth (the one where the arm goes inside one another) because the grease is washed out by rain and makes it out of order, especially in winter.
Actuator parts are very difficult to find.
Thanks in advance for helping me.

I'm far from being an expert like him, but I can tell you that it's an 8-foot dish I got from the roof of a motel near my place, so it was beforehand perfectly fitted.
I swapped out the LNB for one of this type.

Also, if it can help, it is located approximately 1 inch from its tip and 33 inches from the base of the antenna.

Mister Controversial here.
If the dish is still true and not sagging, etc from age. AND was made as a true parabolic from the factory.
The calculations "should" get you in the ballpark.
But. Like me and me bleedin' dish. Toss the finite calculations out the door.
A 4-poster scalar/lnb mount gives zero "wiggle room" for scalar adjustment.
You are able to slide the LNBF in and out and rotate it to get the maximum signal.
So instead of getting confused why this and that measurement doesn't add up to the calcs. Try moving the LNBF position.
Of course you'll want to make sure that the LNBF is aimed dead knutz at the center of the dish and acquire a signal.
In other words. Try to not be off aim of a sat. by a little and aim the LNBF off of the dish center to compensate.

and oh....four-five bucks for a fernco reducer. superjack main tube, 2" O.D.? extension tube, not sure but we could check.
no shipping, no waiting. probably a cut or two with a utility knife.

I have never had a boot on any of mine. I just put lithium grease on the actuator and run it back and forth a couple of times a year. Rain then hard freeze still works fine.

while there's nothing better than a sony bravia. my video wall has grown on me and has a much better picture than my sony sets. PS5 looks amazing on it. i wish sony would get into video walls :) 🤔

Why would a semiconductor LED have limited life? It should be good for hundreds of thousands of hours. Are they using Quantum Dots to generate the colors?

Quick fix, don't sit around with the stock market on all day and not change channels.

Theres only a Few channels out there that don't move thier logos to prevent that ... that said, I think I heard Fox News was one of them.
