Not hard to guess...

61.5 , 77, and (IIRC) 86.5 could form an "arc" of satellites only clearly visible from the Eastern half of the continent.

The Eastern half of the country has a majority of the major HD locals market.

We already know about Sky Angel vacating two transponders on March 31st, and Dish preparing uplink centers for the Spot Beams on 61.5. Dish is also launching a satellite to 61.5 in mid-March.

While the 4 Broadcast Networks have declined in importance the past few years, they have all the best-rated HD programming, in fact, almost all of the HD programming that even causes the rating meter to move (so to speak).

So, the real HD marketing comes in having more HD locals markets. The total viewership of the HD programming on the "national HD channels" added by D* over the past 6 months, is a tiny fraction of the viewership of HD programs on ABC/CBS/Fox/NBC.

PS The next two launches replaces two satellites with newer ones, and the old ones could move to 77 and 86...

You are correct not hard to "guess" or analyze and figure out based on the uplink reports that show what Dish is testing as well as the FCC filings. I guess many people want to promote their rumors and the fact that they have the insider information and also like to throw around "cool" plan names like "Eastern Arc" but don't want to spend the time to do real analysis. Even before the term "Eastern Arc" was mentioned, there were already posts about Dish's possible plans related to a MPEG-4 only service from 61.5 W.

In regards to use of the 86.5 W slot, the recent FCC ruling only dismisses the objections from other companies to any use of the 86.5 W DBS slot. Dish still needs to provide a plan where they demonstrate non-interference with the nearby DBS slots i.e., 82 W and 91 W in Canada. It could turn out that Dish will not be able to use the 86.5 W slot close to the Canadian border. I believe this is the same situation as the 77 W slot although Dish also has to provide some signals to cover at least some parts of Mexico.

Yeah. The secret is that I found out that the new Dish Network Uplink center in the outskirts of St. Louis is actually connected directly to the St. Louis Arch and Dish Network will be using that to communicate with their satellites.

Ncted,

The next dish Launch is AMC14. This is slated for 61.5 to replace Echo3. Echo3 is nearing the end of its useful life, currently Echo3 use is so limited Dish can NOT use all of the transponder Licenses they hold for the 61.5 degree orbital slot. Echo12 formerly Rainbow 1 is only capable of operating on part of the Frequencies available at 61.5. Once AMC 14 checks out and moves to 61.5 Dish can use all 32 transponders at 61.5, as well as Echo12's spotbeam capabilities can be turned on. This will at least triple the usable bandwidth for 61.5. The Next launch will be to 110 and free up another satellite that could move to 77 or 86.5, Echo 3 could also move to one of these slots.

This would enable Dish to use a Three slot Dish for only MPEG4 receivers and be able to deliver upto 150 HD Channels, as well as 80 percent coverage of the US Population with their Local HD signals as well as ALL the rest of the SD channels carried by Dish.

It is too bad E12/R1 is built for 61.5. It would be really nice if they could use AMC-14 for all of 61.5 and have E12 over at 77 or 86.5 just doing spot beams to confine to the US and not interfere with Canada. They really need to get spot satellites that have steerable beams up, they like to move the satellites so much, it would really help. They are always trying to get a satellite working at a different orbital location.

I don't think Dish would agree with you that it is nearing the end of its useful life. Yes there have been failures on E-3 that limits its use at 61.5 W in conjunction with E-12 but if it were to move to 77 W, I believe it could provide signal from about 20 TPs, it just can't do some of the TPs that E-12 wasn't designed to do at 61.5 W i.e., TPs 4, 6, and 26, 28.

If Dish moves all the international programming from 61.5 W as it appears they are doing then Dish can provide a fairly healthy MPEG-4 only service just from this single slot. Assuming the baseline dish for the MPEG-4 service is a D500 dish then Dish can turn down the Forward Error Correction to 5/6 or perhaps as much as 7/8 especially on any of the double powered TPs coming from AMC-14. This allows Dish to put perhaps as many as 36 SD channels per TP again using MPEG-4. So Dish would only need to allocate 4 TPs worth of space for SD channels keeping in mind that Dish will not have to carry a channel both in SD and HD if the programming is exactly the same. Keep in mind also Dish can maximize bandwidth useage per TP by mixing both SD and HD channels on a TP. If Dish allocates 8 TPs for spotbeams from E-12, this leaves 20 TPs for HD programming. At 7 HD channels per TP, that's 140 HD channels and Dish maybe able to get more HD channels per TP with the lower Forward Error Correction.

If E-3 is moved to 77 W, it could be used for HD locals for some southeastern U.S. cities and a modified D1000 could be used to get 61.5 W and 77 W.

After a strange reboot last night in the middle of viewing, this morning several more reboots and about a half an hour download.

Just did the update check manually about an hour ago with Hopper 3 on H713 and Hopper Plus on P15403.
Noticed something new when I clicked on the Update Software, it presented a pop-up as follows:
"Update software 1573
Update later Update now Cancel" with those three buttons which did not exist before.

After updating the H715 - I guess there must be major bugs as both H709 and H714 were skipped.

So here are the issue(s):

Issue #1
It did fix the problem with H713 which was:
"One of the problems I am seeing is that the Available Joey Software section no longer is showing the Android TV versions even after a manual software reset twice and the nightly reboot. Until it does, nether Technician Android TV download and Hopper Plus is able to check, download and update the Android TV software."

This was a major problem with H703.

H710 removed that dependency so H711 and H712 were working without that dependency but H713 brought it back which is fixed in H715 as no P versions or Android TV versions are shown in the Available Joey Software on the main Diagnostics screen.
However, with that said, the TECHNICIAN SETTINGS, Download ATV (Android TV) Files is not working correctly as the Download ATV Files shows:
"Download ATV Files 3000
Download in progress. This operation will be
complete when the files are downloaded

Joey 4 : P554- Failed
Joey 4 : P55403- Failed
Wireless Joey 4 : P654- Failed
Wireless Joey 4 : P65403- Complete
HopperPlus : P154- Complete
HopperPlus : P15403- Failed

OK"
From what I can tell, each of them goes through the Downloading followed by the Processing stages first before it goes into the Failed or Complete stage. It seemed to be going in a loop earlier as it will start downloading from the first item being the Joey 4 each time before it eventually stopped. This is the first time ever since 2023 that I had ever seen it Failed.

With that said, the dependency appears to still be required for the Hopper Plus to check, download and update the Android TV software as it says Failed, No Target when going to "Device Preferences", About, "Software Update"

Issue #2
Still cannot cast to Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus(Software P15317) with the Hopper Plus "Google Chromecast Built-In" feature" as it shows up as a casting device when the Hopper Plus is online and disappears when the Hopper 3 and Hopper Plus does it's nightly reboots but times out when one tries to cast to it and always shows up as Not available in the Google Home app on Android phone. No one else anywhere on the internet had confirmed whether it is working for them or not. Per brittanygarden in DM on October 16, 2026:
"We've been working with Google on this. We have a fix on the Google side projected for Q4. I know we're in Q4 now, but I will try to get a narrowed down timeline for you."

I have not been updated to 715 yet. I am on a QE "Beta" or Test version that did fix the audio issue. The last communication I had with the team mentioned that the full release of that fix was likely in December.
It would be nice to know if 715 does solve that issue of no audio when Dolby is ON, during 4K HDR events.

Interesting, is QE "Beta" or Test version different than the H708 you had mentioned that they rolled you back to or is that a newer version after that?

The game time was just a product of so many top 25 matchups. I think they said it was the most in one day since the 1930s.

Not everyone can play at night and get a tv slot.

Of course Lane is gonna complain. It's what he does.

Could. Yes.

But you know as well as I that they are not going A: put all of their prime matchups on at the same time. And B: take their main games off of the main channels.

You had bama vs lsu, and Georgia vs Ole Miss to choose from.

Considering Georgia had beaten Bama and Ole Miss had beaten LSU, I can see that why they chose that game for the night matchup (without the benefit of hindsight as to how the game's Saturday would play out).

You also had Tennessee vs Kentucky to fit in the mix.

Someone had to be at 2:30. Which imo is honestly my preferred slot for bama games no matter who they are playing or where.

None of them was going to be a streaming only game, and none where going on an "alternate" channel.

Did you realize how early that Utah vs BYU game was Saturday ... I believe it was 12 Noon EST, they are in Mountain time zone, which means they started thier game a 10 AM.

Yes. I even said so. But for reasons I gave, they won't. Wouldn't make sense for them too and they would lose money. A lot of these people that watch one of these games, watch more than one.

They want those eyeballs on as many games as possible. It just makes financial sense.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Are the glasses one size fits all or do they make different models for different degrees of colorblindness.
It looked like there were at least three iterations to try to match up to the given individual deficit, and a test to take to determine which would best help. But at best they seem a marginal measure and not practical.

Gone are the days when Apple "perfects" what debuted years earlier on an Android phone.

I'd probably say when they came up with their M-series of processors with integrated memory. That allowed Apple to get away from the inefficient Intel CPUs that were limiting their notebook computers.

Well, Munro and Associates are now a go-to for mobile device teardowns! Who knew? They have an idea what may be causing the iPhone Duo's inside folding screen to fail 40% up from the bottom:

Report on my iphone 18 PM
Working well with about 3-4 days battery life. New BT and Wifi range is much better than the 15 I had. It doesn't seem any faster but probably is. The Camera shooting video has amazing image stabilization.
Only observed issue is once in awhile, the screen loses touch sensitivity and requires a soft reboot and delete the many open apps to fix. This happens about once a week since buying it.

similar situation. almost every neighborhood around me has fiber, but our 3 block area. I called AT&T and was like, how hard is it to bring fiber over about 200 feet (I am closest to the folks with fiber and can see it on the poles from my front door); crickets and very frustrating.

Chances are, they told you about how hard and long it would take for them to place that fiber to your area ... Poles needed to be placed and what not ...

Or the people who own the poles closest to the house won't let AT&T attach.

If you know the folks who have fiber, strike a deal with them and pay for a Wavlink AX3000. I've installed these for customers and they will light up abut 10 acres. One customer is linking her security camera to it and the cam is about 1,000 ft from the radio. These are also usable as repeaters so you could install one at your house for that purpose. Heck, offer to pay 75% of their monthly bill if that's what it takes.

People that Own the poles ?
That would be ATT Or the Power Company depending on the situation ... easily figured out by looking at the Tag on All Poles.

Might not be an option, due to easements. I can't see governments allowing public property (easements) for exclusive use by just one company.
