Uggghhh... what are they doing with these mapdowns? Messing with my report I see, I'm betting I'll see another report saying they get removed due to the dupes on 110 without a mapdown. Time to tweak the filters.

Interesting to see they are still working on MPEG-4 SD... And what do we get? A new shopping channel... The Jewelry Channel USA coming in loud and clear...

Digi they caught on to your report and are just messing with you........

Dish should change their motto from up to 100 HD channels.....to up to 100 uplinks but er ah no new HD.

How much is now up on 61.5 in either HD #'s and SD #'s in mpeg4?
Who's keeping count of these changes/moves etc?
I know some numbers oriented person is out there.

Not supposed to talk about? Eastern Arc? I'd love to put this on the News Monitor, but I don't have a Pub membership (probably never will)!

Not hard to guess...

61.5 , 77, and (IIRC) 86.5 could form an "arc" of satellites only clearly visible from the Eastern half of the continent.

The Eastern half of the country has a majority of the major HD locals market.

We already know about Sky Angel vacating two transponders on March 31st, and Dish preparing uplink centers for the Spot Beams on 61.5. Dish is also launching a satellite to 61.5 in mid-March.

While the 4 Broadcast Networks have declined in importance the past few years, they have all the best-rated HD programming, in fact, almost all of the HD programming that even causes the rating meter to move (so to speak).

So, the real HD marketing comes in having more HD locals markets. The total viewership of the HD programming on the "national HD channels" added by D* over the past 6 months, is a tiny fraction of the viewership of HD programs on ABC/CBS/Fox/NBC.

PS The next two launches replaces two satellites with newer ones, and the old ones could move to 77 and 86...

Hah! I had guessed the eastern arc was the pattern formed by the rainbow1 spot beams along the eastern part of the nation. But I like your guess better. ;)

I wonder if Dish will try to upgrade me to a new type of dish that can "hit" all 3 of those locations? Obviously 77 and 86.5 look promising, but adding 61.5 without a separate dish is dubious. Maybe they can go into double-power mode at 61.5 and get by with a 1000.2 and not the 1000+ (or some other) monstrosity.

But wait #2. I thought Mexico had granted the rights to broadcast from 77, not the US.

If the rumors are true about EA being an all mpeg4 service then there won't be a need to pick up three sats with one dish (at least initially). All programming (sd, hd, lil, hd lil, rsn's and hd rsn's) should fit on less than 3 birds.

Perhaps 61.5 will have all of the programming including LIL's for one portion of the eastern U.S., another sat (77?) will have all of the programming including LIL's for a different portion of the eastern U.S. and so on...

This would allow them to put all LIL's on spot beams and require end users to pull in just one bird with a standard dish. Putting all LIL's on spot would conserve badwidth. Allowing the customer to get all programming on one bird would cut down on signal reception issues that come with a larger dish and appeal to people that only have the space or desire for a single lnb size dish.

Wanting to know if we can deduce if it's on these new locations we'll get the 100 HDs.

In any case very much appreciate all this work you do Dig.
