My relatives have Dish Network. They have a DPP 44 switch with 110/119 hooked up to two 322's. There once was a 311 hooked up as well (hence the reason for the DPP 44) but it hasn't been used since the TV it was attached to died about 8 months ago. However, we will be keeping the DPP 44 as they may upgrade to HD in the near future, and use the extra SD TV in another room with that 311.

Anyway...enough background information. This has happened twice. Once was sometime the past winter, the second time was last night. Last night, they had thunderstorms in the area, which may or may have not knocked out reception (they were not home at the time). They then lost power for about three hours (they got home about 10 minutes before it returned). They did not try watching TV until earlier this morning.

So they go and try to turn the TV/receiver on. The receiver was left on a local channel from the last time it was watched. It kept cycling through every transponder unable to lock on to a signal. So they tried the usual trick of changing to a channel on a different satellite/transponder, but got the same issue.

So they go into the other room, and try the other 322. Same issue. No matter what channel they try, it just cycles through "searching for satellite." Can't get a channel to show.

So first thing I think is something with the power outage screwed up the boxes. I have them do a front panel reset on one receiver, but nothing different happens. So then I explain to them how to get to check switch. Before doing so, the signal meter was showing fine levels (upper 70's) and locked onto the satellite. Anyway, I have them run a check switch on one receiver, and voila, after it runs, all channels are back. They only ran check switch on one 322.

So now, I'm thinking they'll have to run it on the other one. They go into the other room, and turn on the TV, and to my surprise, it works fine. No check switch was now required on this receiver. I couldn't figure it out.

Now, I was thinking back to the last time this happened. I wasn't available at the time, so they called Dish Network to find out what was wrong, and a CSR helped them fix it. Pretty much they had all channels out and they could not lock on to any channel. IIRC it started with the inability to get to local channels a few hours earlier, and they just assumed something was wrong on the other end, until all channels went out. This was on both receivers as well, and there were no power outages that day, and no inclement weather that I'm aware of.

So, CSR tells them to run check switch. They run check switch on only one receiver (it was the other one than we used today, if it's worth noting). After doing so, normal service returns on both receivers.

I don't quite understand how it's happening. Both receivers are apparently having issues receiving the channels properly (although the signal meter confirms they're still reading the LNB somehow). However, when check switch is run on just one receiver, both are fixed. Is this somehow sending a signal that resets the switch or something? I have no clue why this works the way it does.

That's not really viable as we're in the northeast, hence HD is on 61.5 not 129.

Never thought of unplugging the power inserter...check switch is actually easier because getting to the inserter is a pain.

First time it happened wasn't after a power outage though. Although I guess anything could trigger it to screw up...
sampatterson
I agree with the other postings, I find unplugging the power inserter on the DPPSW44 and then running check switch on all receivers fixes my issues.

Just use two 500 dishes instead. DPP Twin has the jumper port as well, and you can keep your tin foil for your chili. :)
vegassatellite
To make absolutely sure you are fully resetting the DPP44, also unplug all receivers, so that there is no 18v power running to the switch even while the power inserter is disconnected. Otherwise, an internal capacitor in the DPP44 might still hold charge, rendering a reset an unsure solution.

Customer had 5 tuners at one point (322/322/311) and states they might go back to using the 311 again when they replace an SDTV with an HDTV and put the SDTV in to replace the 8 months dead TV.

Thanks everyone. I don't want to mess around with a 1000.2 that much...and I doubt there's a retailer within 200 miles that stocks them! Check switch has worked both times...and it's not a common occurance, but if in the future it doesn't work, I'll know what to do.

And yes, it looks like 5 tuners could be coming soon, so we'll stick with the DPP44.

I know HipKat said that they were working on conversions but we got the official news yesterday right from Dish that starting next month all DMA's will be on the western arc, and all customers will be assigned to that. That's gonna mean a lot of customers around here aren't gonna get Dish unless there are exceptions. Too many mountains and trees.

I don't know why DISH doesn't just start a streaming version of DISH and then if you can't see the western arc you go with streaming versions and then they could keep customers if they had good internet speeds. I mean Sling TV could be changed to Streaming DISH TV if they wanted since both companies are under Echostar. Then you would still be able to use your ota antenna with Air TV devices like I do with Air TV Anywhere with 4 ota tuners.

I watch mostly SD channels (H&I, Start and ION, etc.). There are plenty of advertisers, this time of the year it is mostly Medicare Advantage plans, auto extended warranties and the occasional walk-in-tub. They know who is watching.

I'm thinking of switching to DirecTV and wanted to know what equipment I should be asking for.

I'm wanting wired satellite due to that fact that I live in the sticks and there is no reliable, decent speed internet for streaming available.

What would be the correct equipment for three 4K tvs in the house?

If they are requiring all clients on a new HS17 install to be wireless, that is not a technical requirement. It saves their techs from having to pull coax all over the house. It makes installations cheaper.
Jimbo
The DirecTV order entry work flow doesn't allow wired clients with an HS17. Does that clear it up for you?
Yet the C61k (4k unit) was wired only ?
That was the only unit available for the HS17 if you wanted 4K

How does that work ?

Or do I havwe that flip flopped ?

I think Dish might be the only service that still wires houses. The cable company has gone wireless, Verizon is switching all their copper line customers to wireless, DirecTV Stream, even most surveillance and alarm systems are going wireless.

It's not a poor design when you factor in that it has a Wireless Video Bridge built-in. It's shaped like a router or gateway for a reason.

We're a DirecTV retailer and there is no where in the order entry flow to have wired clients with an HS17. I heard that when it's ordered on the website the installer shows up with only HS17's and wireless clients. I don't know how reliable that info is as it came from a dubious source but it makes sense.

Well, different strokes and all that. I've had that HS17 sitting quietly doing its job for almost a decade. As I mentioned earlier, at one point I had two wired and two wireless receivers. Now, just one C61K.

Even before that I had a HR44 with an HR24 and two wireless minis. Back then, which was years ago, I would have agreed with the need for individual receivers, but at this point, I stream almost everything, including shows I used to record.

It'll be moot soon enough anyway. Wired receivers/DVRs are going the way of the POTS landline. You can't stop progress.

I am a animal lover, but this year I gave up gardening. Even moved it to potted plants on the second story deck last year. Can't tell you how much use my Ruger 10-22 got, but it was a losing battle for me. Never got any food. So now they eat coax instead! 20 acres of dense woods behind me and my stuff tastes better, either veggies or wires!

The playoff told us rankings are pointless. Lesser ranked teams were winning playoff games. Ranking the top 24? Rank it the same way as normal. It'll consist of at least four or five of each cartel's teams, other conference winners. The field will be fine, the sorting will be problematic and arbitrary, but in the end does it matter?

It'll matter when OSU or Alabama have to face a decent upstart squad due to being ranked midway in the listing, or goodness help us, each other. But thanks to arbitrary rankings, that should be easily avoided by design. Then the cartels will need to fix the rankings a bit so the top dogs can have a bye or three to help prevent those untimely eliminations from the playoff.

For better or worse, NIL and the transfer portal have evened the field. NCAA will be pretty much like the NFL with records being kind of meaningless and anyone can make a run and win it all.

As for meeting each other, you say they automatically avoid ... not really, if I recall, when Ohio State won in 2 years ago, they had the toughest route to win it all .... they played Tennessee, then it was the #1 team Oregon, in round 2 then Texas in round 3 then Notre Dame in the Finals .... thats hardly avoiding the tough match ups.

Personally, I don't want to see 42- 10 blowouts in the first 2 rounds ....

Not sure where you found lesser teams beating higher ranked teams ... (outside of the Top teams, which any could beat each other (1-8).

Which in my opinion is where the Playoffs should be teams 1-8 .
Team number 64 has ZERO chance to win 4-5 games against top teams.

Btw, whens the last time a (in basketball) 32-64 ranked team WON it all, or even got to the Final 2 ?????

I'll wait.
Y
You mean other than Miami being in the final last year... and Indiana being the only bye team to win a game?
Ronnie-
I see alot saying nobody is good because several have a loss or two. I disagree. I think more teams are good now, and even.

Its made for some more competitive games imo.
Ronnie-

The NIL and tranfer portal definitely need some work, or guidelines, but it has evened stuff out somewhat.

Even the expanded playoff. While it does make a single regular season game less relevant in the overall picture, its added a different level of interest imo. Losing a game, or two even, doesnt mean your season is over. The teams still have ALOT to play for.

I am not as against this (as a whole that still needs tweaking) as I thought I would be. More competitive football, I think that is a good thing.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

A few teams got a deal. Was posted yesterday in the Directv update thread
K
https://www.prnewswire.com/news-rel...-louis-blues-regional-channels-302918682.html
DIRECTV today announced a new multi-year distribution agreement with the National Hockey League for Hurricanes Hockey Network, Blue Jackets Hockey Network, Wild+, and Blue Note+ pregame, postgame, and in-game live sports services.

Each of the four channels will be available to DIRECTV streaming and satellite customers who live in each team's NHL-designated home territory and subscribe to Choice and higher packages, and each U-verse customer in those same regions who subscribes to U200 and above.

This agreement also provides distribution rights to each NHL team to all of DIRECTV FOR BUSINESS's thousands of sports bars, restaurants, fitness clubs, and other commercial venues located within each team's respective region.

DIRECTV has recently obtained regional or local rights to provide 76 of the 81 U.S.-based NHL, NBA, or MLB franchises to their local fans, including multi-year agreements for 23 U.S.-based hockey teams.

Now let's get the NBA game channels going.
K
I'm trying to figure out the math that got them to 76 of 81 US based teams:
DIRECTV has recently obtained regional or local rights to provide 76 of the 81 U.S.-based NHL, NBA, or MLB franchises to their local fans, including multi-year agreements for 23 U.S.-based hockey teams.
77 Phillies
78 76ers
79 Flyers -- Next year will mark 30 years since DTV last had local Philly sports after the demise of SportsChannel Philly, at this point the lack of NBCS Philly is not a dealbreaker for most of their remaining PA, Southern NJ and Delaware customers
80 Stars -- Not listed in the NHL release as KDFI/KDFW only has 17 simulcasts the rest are Prime only
The lack of Flyers and Stars would match the 23 of 25 US based NHL teams.

81 Ducks? -- KCOP is listed in the NHL release, but between them and KTTV only 65/77 games will be available, the other 12 will be Prime only, and there's no OTA option at all for viewers in the Santa Barbara or San Diego DMAs
Unlike the 4 NHL distributed teams (Blues, Blue Jackets, Hurricanes, Wild), the Stars and Ducks are available at no additional cost for Prime subscribers

In the NHL release they are counting the LIL coverage of OTA teams for "local rights", even if all of the outer markets aren't available (i.e. Golden Knights and Mammoth on The Spot Idaho subchannels, the Panthers on Laff Fort Myers and Ducks outside of the LA DMA), so at least for the home markets they have all of the OTA NBA teams:
Heat - WPLG/10 Miami and WTCN-CD/43 West Palm Beach -- slate up on channel 654, but I doubt they are going to add a Heat feed just for Fort Myers unless the Heat make it available cheaply, they didn't even do it for the Panthers who won the Stanley Cup in 2024 and 2025
Hornets - WAXN/64 Charlotte, WMYV/48 Greensboro, WRDC/28 Raleigh and the satellite only WZBJ/24 Roanoke -- slate up on channel 648 for the rest of the Carolinas
Magic - WRDQ/27 Orlando and WMOR/32 Tampa -- slate up on channel 656 for the non-carried subchannel markets Jacksonville, Gainesville, Panama City and Tallahassee along with the Florida portions of the Mobile-Pensacola DMA who doesn't have any OTA carriage.
Hawks - WANF/46 Atlanta -- slate up on channel 646 for the rest of Georgia and Alabama
Bucks - WVTV-D2/24 Milwaukee and the satellite only WISC-D2/14 Madison -- slate up on channel 669 for the rest of Wisconsin
Suns - KAZF/32 Phoenix -- Nothing for Tucson, Yuma or New Mexico
Jazz - KJZZ/14 Salt Lake City -- Nothing for the areas of Eastern Washington, Eastern Oregon, Idaho and Montana that used to get it on an alternate feed of Root Northwest
Pistons - WMYD/20 Detroit and WJMN/3 Marquette -- Also available outside of Detroit on 663-2
Mavs - KFAA/29 Dallas -- Also available outside of Dallas on 676-8
Blazers - KUNP/47 Portland and KSTW/11 Seattle -- Also available outside of Portland on 688-1
Pelicans (Gulf Coast Sports) - Available on 676-6
Thunder - KSBI/52 OKC and KQCW/19 Tulsa -- Also available on 675, in their case there's a special cable only feed of KSBI and KQCW that DIRECTV, Spectrum, Fubo and others have with all of the games, OTA viewers and Dish customers will be limited to 10 games. They kind of did a horrible job with the announcement though, so there will be a lot of confused OTA viewers when they turn on 52.1 tomorrow night and see Forensic Files instead of the Thunder.

They just announced the DAZN/NBA channels with a multiyear deal that also includes TV Everywhere authentication for the DAZN app, and commercial distribution.

DIRECTV, the premier provider of digital television entertainment in the United States, and DAZN, the world's leading sports entertainment platform, today announced a new multi-year distribution agreement for local telecasts of Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana Pacers, Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves, and San Antonio Spurs games for DIRECTV streaming, satellite, and U-verse customers in each team's respective NBA-designated home territories.

These DAZN telecasts will be available to DIRECTV customers who subscribe to the Choice or higher packages and to U-verse TV customers who subscribe to the U200 or higher package. Each of DAZN's team services provides live pregame, postgame, and in-game coverage for the respective team.

In the coming weeks, customers who receive access to these teams via DIRECTV will also be able to login to the DAZN platform at no additional cost using their DIRECTV login credentials.

This agreement also provides distribution rights to each of the five NBA teams to all of DIRECTV FOR BUSINESS' thousands of sports bars, restaurants, fitness clubs, and other commercial venues located within each team's respective region.
