Hi, My 722 got turbocharged. Yesterday I went to ch. 501- VOD to have a look @ the 1080P movie. Each time I clicked on "Rent" my scrn went blank- then I get message # 994- States: My TV is not compatible OR I did NOT confirm I wanted to rent the movie.

1) My Sony R60XBR2 Projection TV is most certainly full 1080P. 2) I was never allowed to see the 2nd scrn as it showed up for a split second and was blocked by message # 994.
3) I called Dish tech support 3 times getting 3 different answers- (Nothing new about that). The 3rd rep told me they're having all kinds of trouble with the software- Doesn't sound like whoever designed the s-ware knows their a*s from a hole in the ground. It's like when my 722 went haywire for almost a month after anothe s-ware upgrade.

Has anyone been able to actually watch the 1080P movie on ch. 501?

It would be nice to see how my XBR performs with a decent signal. :(

I don't think the version of HDMI (1.2, 1.3, etc) has anything to do with it as all of them can pass 1080p with no problems. You would need ver 1.3 for lossless audio but I don't believe we are getting lossless audio with VOD.

All of these "expect me to buy a new TV" comments are getting rediculous. People, being able to view 1080p24 is just like watching Blu-Ray or HD DVD. If your TV cannot accept the best possible resolution (1080p24), you can still watch the movie you just need to set your player to a different resolution. And in this case, if your TV is not capapable of 1080p24 you get 1080i/720p depending how your 622/722 is set. So if you want 1080p24 then get a new TV. If you just want to watch the movie, go ahead and rent it and watch it in non-1080p24.

That being said, even if your display will accept 1080p24, there is bound to be HDMI handshake issues. There always seems to be handshake issues with some combinations of devices with HDMI. But eventually most of them get worked out.

If you can't watch a movie in 1080p that defeats the whole purpose of having an expensive TV. As to your therory about TVs- I spent over $3000 for my Sony XBR2 about 1 year ago. I refuse to buy JUST a BluRay player- I want a BluRay recorder/player, period.

Even if I was rich I wouldn't throw away a top of the line XBR2 TV & buy a new one because Dish is too stupid to present a product that most of its customers can watch. Does that make sense to you?

If 60 fps was the accepted std. only 1 yr. ago why screw things up with 24 fps? I have never seen any 1080p movie on this TV & was really looking forward to checking one out.

If I owned a co. I would want to capture as many subscribers as possible for maximum $$ and customer retention. If Direct comes out with an acceptable alternative I will leave Dish after almost 4 yrs. to go with a co. that has an interest in most of its customers and not just the well off few that can drop $3-6K on a nice new TV.

I'm not disrespecting you, but this appears to be a lose-lose situation for many Dish DVR customers.:(

You missed the whole point that you CAN still watch this movie, just not in 1080p. Movies have been 24p from day one, its just that within the last couple years you can watch them that way in the home, without the needed 3:2 pulldown that creates some minor issues. Blu-Ray is in 1080p24, just as the film is. DVD is 24p, it's just the player or TV does 3:2 pullown to make it display on your TV.

So essentially Dish is putting out the latest and greatest as far as HD resolutions go, yet it is "backwards compatable" with ALL TVs for ALL viewers. So this solution works for ALL customers. So I don't really see what you are complaining about or the basis for your argument. Unless you want a cheap Blu-Ray recorder :), but that's a different topic.

No, I "get it." OK, if I buy a BluRay player my XBR won't play a movie in 1080p 24, will it? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I already watch my stuff in HD 1080i. Why would I want to watch a movie in a watered down format that isn't as good as what I thought I was buying 1 year ago?

I rarely rent VOD/PPV movies. I do subscribe to Netflix, but once again I have no BluRay player. Then, if I hook it up to the XBR it won't be in the p 24 format, will it? Am I right?

I have never been one to settle for something I don't want, but in this case I can't buy a new set. Last June I bought the XBR2- Sony's flagship projection set. Now it appears I made a mistake unless a work around becomes available without sacrificing PQ. But, I only have 60 instead of 24.

Every time I go to the Sony Style store in the mall I can't get over how life like the PQ is on all of their TVs. Perhaps I shouldn't have bought our 2nd Prius last April. Bummer.:o

Watching Blu-Ray or Dish VOD at 1080i60 has no resolution loss compared to 1080p24 assuming your TV does proper deinterlace for display at 1080p60, so it is not watered down. The only thing you would be "losing" would be the benefits of not having 5:5 pulldown and I'm willing to bet you would not see the difference between 1080p24 and 1080i60.

But this VOD should have higher bitrate than normal Dish 1080i programming, which should make a difference in what you see, and for the better.

Put it this way, I have a 1080i RP CRT and am looking forward to this download.....and I love Blu-Ray and it looks fantastic on my set.

And my guess is a lot of what you are seeing on the newer displays is the Motion Enhancer which gives the picture a smoother look, some like it some don't.

No go enjoy your nice TV and your Prius! :)

Are you stating that a movie in 1080i60 will look as good as the TVs in the Sony store? I was told the "i" res. is every 3 lines vs. the "p" that is every line of res. The manager also showed me how the depth & colors are more flowing and natural. Of course, that's the way all sets look in a Sony store & that's his job.

BTW, The 2008 Prius is struggling to get 49 MPG and the '06 used to get 54 MPG until the Gov. started using ethanol. Now it's only getting about 50 MPG. I am glad I got rid of the last 2 cars that had 6 cyl. engines. To me paying more $$ for gas is like throwing money in the nearest gutter. I'd rather have $$ for my toys.

I am quite fond of my XBR2. My last set was a SD Mitsubishi 50" projection set & couldn't hold a candle to the Sony. I have always liked Sony products along with Klipsch speakers. I was a mobile DJ for 20 yrs. and still have all the equipment. Every so often I fire up the sound system and shake the house.

You know how it is-guys love guy toys. Some things never change.:)

Comparing different TVs is whole other ballgame. What I am saying is there is no loss of resolution in going from 1080p24 (on the disc) to 1080i60 (for output by the player) to 1080p60 for display on your TV assuming everything is done correctly. The "i" means every other, or interlaced. First the odd numbered lines are drawn (540 of them) then 1/60sec later the even ones (540 lines), combining to make 1080i on the screen. So it takes 2/60 or 1/30sec to draw an entire new screen for 1080i and this is done 30 times/second. 1080p24 is a full 1080 screen 24 times/second. So you see, 1080i60 can draw full screens (30 per sec) faster than the normal film rate (24 per sec) requires. So some frames (1 out of 3 sort of) are actually duplicated on a 24p film so it displays properly on a TV needing 60frames/sec (most TVs). These duplicated frames can cause judder during screen pans, which is where having a 120hz TV comes into play. 5x24=120, so each frame is just repeated 5 times and all are displayed for equal time and no frame judder. This is why people want 24p and 120hz displays.

Now enough reading/typing/learning for a night....go back to your nice toys! :)

1080p60 & 1080p24

Does the projector have an HDMI input? Are you using it? If it has the HDMI input and you are using it 99% chance that it is able to play both 1080p24 & 60. the thing is it seems to me that you are thinking that the 60 is exclusive to 1080p on your setup. Also the way I have been reading it on the forums the TV is check by the E* IRD to see if it is compatible and then will tell you yes or no. That is what it should do but some of the firmware that has been downloaded doesn't recognize all models that are compatible yet. It is also my understanding that TV's that will only do 1080i can not view this movie that the VIP IRD won't down rez it to 1080i. BTW this is the price all techno junkies pay when things advance to the next level some very good equipment that is a year or two old just won't work with newer standards. I'm one of those people that went HD when almost no one had HD sets so mine on will play SD(480I), ED(480P), or HD in 1080I. It goes black when a 720P signal is feed to it. Such is life in the electronics upgrade monster world.

Yes, Three HDMI inputs all in use. Others here say there will be a list of TVs that will work with the new firmware.

OK, I have an odd problem. Dish lets me order the 1080p movie but then I get a flashing screen like a DVD "skipping". It downloads and thinks it's playing, it's just unwatchable with the screen flashing. You see 3-4 seconds, then a 4-5 second delay, then 3-4 more seconds, then 45- second delay and so on. Once in while it will play for 10-15 seconds where you think it's going and then back to flashing.

It's probably been 2 decades since I've listened to an AM radio station. Very rarely listen to FM any more.

I am 1 that wants the AM to Stay ....
That said, since '08 I have had Sat radio available to me ... I think I have turned on AM 3 or 4 times, just to see if its still there.

Fwiw, if theres a Major disaster or bad weather or whatever, the chances of me finding out about it by going to the AM side of the radio is SLIM and None.
Even FM, I haven't really had on since '13ish, I may turn it on from time to time, just to see if its still there.

Automation has seen to that. You can't get evening drive traffic reports where I live, much less disaster reports.

That goes for a lot of people. I've been advertising on radio for more than a decade now and am very familiar with this subject. While it is still a valuable tool, it has far less impact than it did just a few years ago. The best reaction I get is from a local Country music station....they play a mix of older and newer music and have a very big footprint.

No, just regular FM stations. One is the country station I mentioned and the other is a Talk Radio station which used to get fantastic results but honestly, since the death of Rush Limbaugh, talk radio just doesn't do as well. There were two guys who had an early morning show which was hugely popular here in the southeast but one of them retired a couple years ago and the show just doesn't garner the same numbers as it used to.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

IFixIt has published their Teardown and they had some positive things to say about the iPhone Duo. It still showed some dust ingress into the hinge assembly but seemed otherwise well-sealed.

But with a considerable number of reports of the main screen dying with similar failures, AppleCare+ should be a no-brainer for this phone.

Hello folks, well my luck ran out last week with a nasty thunderstorm and after 39 years here, finally took a hit. Now, the FTA receivers I had for some years worked great until now. Recently picked up a fairly cheap receiver, online, KOQIT and seems to be good, but for the life of me, I cannot get the HDMI output to work with 3 of my Samsung monitors. I can hook it up to my Samsung TV and its HDMI input and it works fine. The 2 receivers I lost also worked fine with them, so am I going crazy? anyone have come across this or have any suggestions? And, since this is a somewhat cheap unit but works, what is everyone out there using for receivers these days? without breaking the bank? I enjoy watching FTA TV, so I will invest more if needed, what is a really good, detailed unit these days. I'm so use to watching a few of them HD channels. Right now I'm down to composite hookups, yuck! Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Frank

Take the cover off, show me pics of the board of the bad one and also the bottom of the board. I'm an old hardware electronics tech plus a satellite dealer; I fixed a lot of FTA and regular receivers. I may be able to fix it for you. And yes, they got hit by lightning; it's best to email me the pics at diamondsatellite@snet.net or call me at 203-232-8888. I give you a 50-50 chance of fixing it; I do have spare parts. my phone is a fliptop phone

Anybody know how to add "hidden" audio channels like for 101 W Ku or 105W C band on these recvr's? I've exported the database file but don't have anything that will read or edit it.
cyberham
For 105W C, you scan in the Westwood tp normally. Then select the audio channel you want. Not necessary to manually enter. On 101W, you must manually enter.

Seems like I remember that now, with my V9 I manually entered anyway on 105, easier for me to pick the channel later :)

Can you recommend the best to cover all bases. NO BEEPS on certain channels 101w (NEWSMAX ,NEWS NATION), a clock that keeps working STEADY for timed recording ,solid unit with good lifespan. My Amiko died AND my Linkbox has NO Favorites Button and BEEPS on many channels. Picking up 105 west with a NEW SHED IN THE Way with 6 foot Cband ..95 percent quality ...unbelievable.

That's great!

Many people have all sorts of power bricks laying around. Provided the plug fits, and it's the right polarity and same voltage and the same OR higher amps, why not try another one IF the device you want to try it on doesn't seem to work right.

Some people just call them power supplies (which really isn't a good fit in this case), some call them "wall adapters" but it's an external power supply or AC adapter that converts (AC) from a wall outlet into low-voltage (DC) that an electronic device needs to run.

Right now on C band getting 105w, a Mexican channel with 95% quality and I am near Detroit! I'm recording a TECHNO MUSIC FESTIVAL today from Mexico ..if you can believe it.....and yes that SHED is partly in the path so I'm puzzled. There are also christian channels on 105w.

105W has some very strong transponders. I received more than four transponders using a 41-inch dish recently. See here.

The Westwood One Mux on 105W would likely be receivable, has some good music channels on there. It does scan in, but it's more convenient to manually enter the PIDs, check out Lyngsat for the channels: EchoStar 105/SES 11 at 105.0°W - LyngSat

I use a 10 footer (only C-band dish I have), but it's very strong.

Really excited for this season with Kentucky having a new coach and some really exciting recruits. Probably won't last long, but here's hoping this season is great.

You mean other than Miami being in the final last year... and Indiana being the only bye team to win a game?

No, I was actually referring to outside of the Top 8, but should have been Top 12 ...

I guess I should have looked at the bracket from last year first ...

I'm more thinking about them trying to expect a 15 to beat a 5 seed or there abouts .

And no teams deserve a bye! Injuries are the largest part of the game that you cant practice for them. Any team can suffer the worst injury at any position on any play. No favorites.

While the bye can help the top four teams and those the Cartels would like to protect in the playoff, I think the bye is also about making the Cartel championships mean something. One problem with a playoff is it does diminish the conference title a bit.

Once the 24 gets here, there won't be anymore Conference Championships .... or so they say.

Oh what the hell, we really don't need Conferences anymore either ...:coco:(

I mean you get upsets all the time.

Just a couple of weeks ago. Unranked Florida knocked off number 7 texas. Unranked Auburn beat number 1 Georgia.

This week unranked Cincinnati beat number 8 texas Tech. Unranked UCF beat number 2 BYU.

No reason to think similar upsets wont happen in the playoffs where a low seed can upset a higher one.

Yep, wonder why we rank the top 25 in 2 poles still? Do the ranking change much if they are unranked or have many loses? They sure do, any given day never take your opponent as a cake walk.....

Correct, you Do get upsets from time to time ....however .
You Don't get teams UPSETTING teams for 5 weeks in a row.

They are trying to make this Basketball and its a far cry from the way that is played.

How long till they go to 32 teams ? Then they will say, well, the NFL is 32 teams, we can make more money that way .... except the NFL is 32 teams, that are a set number of teams and divisions, you don't have that in College ... oh but they will try.

They would have to choose what teams they would want in and thats it.
Hopefully that NEVER happens.

I can see the NCAA going away and the CFP taking that portion over and a Collective Bargaining agreement coming in the not to distant future.

The problem with rankings and playoffs is that they are designed to hype the game and make money. Period.

The only reason that BYU and Texas Tech were upsets is that they were hyped up in the standings in the first place. I love watching BYU and Bear Bachmeier. They are a fun and talented team, but not nearly so strong, fast, big, and skilled as a true top ten team. Does anyone truly believe they could compete with the likes of Georgia, Ohio State, Indiana, Alabama, etc.? Yet, they were ranked above those teams.

Each year, there are 10 to 12 teams who truly could compete for the championship if it depended on winning more than one game in a playoff. Including teams like James Madison, Tulane, BYU, etc. in a playoff has nothing to do with determining a national champion. It's just about money.

I know HipKat said that they were working on conversions but we got the official news yesterday right from Dish that starting next month all DMA's will be on the western arc, and all customers will be assigned to that. That's gonna mean a lot of customers around here aren't gonna get Dish unless there are exceptions. Too many mountains and trees.

I don't know why DISH doesn't just start a streaming version of DISH and then if you can't see the western arc you go with streaming versions and then they could keep customers if they had good internet speeds. I mean Sling TV could be changed to Streaming DISH TV if they wanted since both companies are under Echostar. Then you would still be able to use your ota antenna with Air TV devices like I do with Air TV Anywhere with 4 ota tuners.

Even if you are broadcasting old SD-only shows, I would think advertisers would still want their commercials to look good.

Advertisers on SD channels are probably Far and Few, very hard to find, they have very few viewers to watch them.

I watch mostly SD channels (H&I, Start and ION, etc.). There are plenty of advertisers, this time of the year it is mostly Medicare Advantage plans, auto extended warranties and the occasional walk-in-tub. They know who is watching.

Because he didn't have a fleet of reusable rockets. Starlink works because SpaceX is able to launch hundreds (thousands?) of their Starlink satellites for what a single geostationary Internet satellite costs to build and launch on a disposable launcher.

But how is it reusable if it's disposable
