Been struggling for weeks, wearing out my roof and ladder:confused:
My Setup/system:
Samsung 46" LCD TV
VS HD 9000
Fortec 36" (90CM) dish
Moteck SG2100 Motor
Axing SPU 41-02 Switch
Invacom QPH -031 LNB
100' RG6 cable
Lat 43.2
Long 79.48
Can't seem to figure out how to find true south (using a 79W sat as reference), or at least I think I am.
Don't have a portable TV, using standard "satellite finder" meter/beeper so not really able to ascertain satellite from roof, sort of an educated guess.
Have tried numerous bolting/unbolting sky sweeps, locking onto strong signal, then fine tuning with elevation settings etc.
Have done auto scans, and blind scans, had a little success with mac TV (Taiwan), and AON (a religious channel), other wise nothing except encrypted channels which are of no use to me.
I suspect that I am not getting aligned with the true arc of the Clarke belt somehow and therefore my sat discoveries are hit and miss, but I don't know how to fix this apparently.
(I keep finding conflicting info on dish elevation settings and motor elevation settings, between my manuals and the net.)
(BTW, my post is a true 90 degrees vertical read from four sides)
Also wondering if either my DiSEqC switch or my LNB is malfunctioning.
How can you tell anyway?
I've even read that some LNBs have their own switches built in and don't need a switch in the line.
Is that true?
If so, how would I combine the cables from the C and L outlets to my receiver?
OR: Do I even need the C and L outlets, would a direct connection to my receiver from the Linear outlet work better for me? (I understand that only the paid channels use the Circular feeds anyway. Is that correct)
I'm only interested in free FTA (at the moment anyway)
Aside from all these variables, the manual is of limited use, and I'm not sure if I'm even setting my scans info correctly.
Example:
AMC 3
LNB Power ON
Type Universal (not sure if this should be standard or not, and if so should 22KHZ be off?)
Freq settings (using defaults)
DiSEqC none
Motor Usals
I don't quite understand all the amazing options available to me on this forum either, such as keys, bins, channels lists, codes, etc.
Do I need any of these, or are they just for the hardcore hobbyists out there?

I'm beginning to suspect that the sat and channel lists etc., that are pre programmed/built into my unit, could be out of date, and that the ones listed here are the cure. (Mainly because the satellite list published on the web show channels and sats that are not even listed in my receiver)
But I'm afraid to mess with my built in settings.
I'm quite conversant with computers and flash drives etc., so if someone could point me in the right direction...
(It's just the FTA stuff that is all new to me!)
I know there are thousands of channels out there, and I only want a select handful, I'm not greedy, but I have a significant investment in this setup now and my wife is pressuring me for results!:)
Besides winter will be setting in soon, and I don't want to spend most of it on the roof.
Help!

Power Off the receiver using the switch on back when connecting / disconnecting cables.

LNB "L"inear port to DiSEqC Port 1
LNB "C"ircular port to DiSEqC Port 2
DiSEqC Out to Meter
Meter to Motor
Motor to Receiver

Motor Latitude is set to your Lat: 43.2(43 should be close enough)
Dish Elevation set to 23
Using a compass and with the Motor at Zero, twist Motor on pole to 190deg South

In the receiver's Sat / Dish / Antenna setup menu:
Find Nimiq2 @ 82 west
LNB Power ON
Type: Standard
Freq: 11250
22KHz: Off
Transponder(TP):Anything in Nimiq2's list should work.
DiSEqC: Port2 (Circular)
Motor: USALS - Enter you Lat and Long, make sure to sellect "West", east is deafult.
Select "OK", dish should move West for about 1 second.

Adjust southern alignment buy twisting motor on pole to best signal
Adjust Dish Elevation to best signal
Motor Latitude is not adjusted

Once you have good Quality, 85+, try the Linear Sat at 74 West

In the receiver's Sat / Dish / Antenna setup menu:
Look for 74west - SBS6, Galaxy 17, Horzions 2
LNB Power ON
Type: Standard
Freq: 10750
22KHz: Off
Transponder(TP): Look for 11734
DiSEqC: Port1 (Linear)
Motor: Usals - no need to re-enter Info, select "OK" to Move.

Tweak dish to best signal.

Power off and remove Meter.

Channel lists

Thanks Tron,

Can you step me through it?

Once I get my channel lists set up/organized a bit on my receiver, how exactly do I transfer them to my USB?

Is there an option in the menu on the receiver for this?

And once on the USB flash drive, how does my computer handle these lists?
Is there special software for this, or are the lists in a file format already covered in Windows?(Running Vista 32 Home Prem on a 3 gig computer.)
And of course once on the computer and modified, how Do I reinstall them on the receiver?

A lot of questions:hungry: :o
Do your best, and thanks again.

I don't have a Viewsat, and all receivers are different in their operational menus, so someone with a Viewsat will probably be able to give you better step-by-step help than I can. Basically, the process involves saving your list onto a thumb drive, reading the thumb drive with your PC, modifying the channel information (putting channels in order, deleting what you don't want, etc.), re-saving the channel list file on the thumb drive, then re-loading the file into your receiver.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Continuing the Kilauea thread in the Pub here. Perhaps the Iceland one too next time there's remarkable activity.

Currently there is precursory lava flowing into the crater, leading to the next episode that'll probably start within the next day.

You can see the pace of inflation / deflation here. It serves as the primary predictor for when the expect the eruptions, which coincide w/ inflation turning into significant deflation and last for several hours on average with significant fountaining.

Wife and I like the AfarTV feeds, for the discussion along w/ them, though they're otherwise just mirrors of the official USGS feeds.

Oooo, quite the show now. All three vents have doming and overflows. The cone that built up around the North vent lost its upper quarter at 02:50 Oct 17 and is now spewing lava at a healthy rate. Don't know if I would say it's a fountain, but it's close.

edit: The USGS has called the official start of Episode 55 as starting at 03:19 HST Oct 17, 2026:

Alert Level: WATCH, Color Code: ORANGE 2026-10-17 13:43:56 UTC
HVO/USGS Volcanic Activity Notice

Volcano: Kilauea (VNUM #332010)

Current Volcano Alert Level: WATCH
Current Aviation Color Code: ORANGE

Issued: Saturday, October 17, 2026, 3:43 AM HST
Source: Hawaiian Volcano Observatory
Notice Number: 2026/H488
Location: N 19 deg 25 min W 155 deg 17 min
Elevation: 4091 ft (1247 m)
Area: Hawaii

Summary: Episode 55 of the ongoing Halemaʻumaʻu eruption began at 3:19 AM HST on October 17, 2026.

Volcanic Activity:
Episode 55 of lava fountaining in Halemaʻumaʻu began at the summit of Kīlauea began at 3:19 AM HST on October 17, 2026.

Fountain heights are relatively low at about 100-150 feet (30-45 m), and it is not clear whether this episode will evolve to the same heights as previous episodes. Continuous overflows from the vents began yesterday, October 16, just before 6 a.m. HST and transitioned into episode 55 fountains at 3:19 a.m. HST this morning. The current forecast is for winds are blowing from the north-northeast direction, which suggests that volcanic gas emissions and volcanic material may be distributed to the south-southwest direction from Halemaʻumaʻu.
  • All eruptive vents and lava flows are confined to Halemaʻumaʻu crater within Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. Tephra fall from volcanic ash clouds is greatest within 3 miles (5 km) of the vents, lighter ash and Pele's Hair may stay suspended for large distances from the vents.
Foxbat
Kīlauea seems to be returning to the "normal" eruption script, impressive fountaining from the North Vent. For once, the V2 Cam has the best overall shot:
IMG_1535.webp
The lava flows have covered a good portion of the Halemaʻumaʻu crater floor.

Since it was already "paid" for, I spent the two hours of my time watching the John Cena action movie on Apple TV, "Matchbox The Movie" even though the reviews were brutal. It was better than I expected, so I didn't feel like I had wasted an afternoon watching it. But it felt like another "Reacher"/"Neghley"/"Mission: Impossible"/"Fast & Furious" crash and blow stuff up with lots of automatic gunfire mixed in movie featuring covert CIA operatives.

I don't think we'll get a follow-up movie from this. I expect Mattel will have other toy lines to exploit.

Swaggerty's isn't too bad, sausage prices are lower per lb than making my own from pork butts right now so I've been buying JC Potter or Owen lately.
(Swaggerty's at Sam's is pre cut, I usually partially freeze the rolls and cut with my slicer and vacuum seal on parchment paper)

They run Owens at $3.99 for lb and $7.99 a couple times a month at some grocery stores here, I actually was wrong, just checked a pork sirloin roast it was $1.99 a lb. (cooked it yesterday so pack was in trash)

I don't think Tim and Tony are that far apart in Age ...

Remember what Tony said to Tim when they first got back together ...
Tony said: I am the New Tony, Tim .... (something to that effect)

Tony has changed, he's been running his Security Business ... I'm sure he has grown up.

Give it time ... your judging the New Tony from the old Tony.

It sounds like Tim won't be around the Team much longer either.

I'm curious how they are going to implement Tony into Origins (If they do) ...
Tony was introduced to Gibbs and the team, on NCIS, which makes it the Mothership side of things, he worked in Baltimore prior to NCIS, NO mention when they met that anyone had known one another ...
