Dishs Claim of 150 HD channels by end of Year.

Anybody else getting a lttle annoyed at Dish for taking so long to add New HD.I chose to stay with Dish Absolute(because of price and the fact I only have a 19 inch HDTV at this time,plan on buying bigger TV after Tax Refund next year)Anyway I really wonder if Dish will auctually add National Channels or just a Bunch of PPV,I was hoping that Dish would gradually add more HD(a little at a Time)instead of waiting until last minute.Or in the least let us know that its getting close to the time to add the HD give us an idea of what is coming(Dish can add a disclosure that states that this is what were working on but auctuall channels may vary).
Dish Absolute is okay but from what I understand this package will be going away in Feb 2009 I just hope they have a comparable HD package that includes all available HD channels other wise in order to get all the HD included in their SD/HD combo packages I know my bill will go up at least 30.00 a month(honestly without Voom channels I wll not go for the platinum package)(MGM,Universal,HDMOVIES,Smithsonian,WFN(A totall Waste)Palladia(Yek).
Maybe I am just being impatient but when I watch TV the Most (after Midnite )not much on HD absolute,unless you have alot store on your DVR.
What is everyone elses thoughts on this 150 HD by end of year.

When they set that "up to" thing in the same size lettering point size as the huge "150" numerals in the ads then I'll agree they're being 100% fair and truthful in what they say. The "up to" part is not too difficult to miss.

As far as I'm concerned, E* would be more truthful if they would eliminate that "up to 150 channels of HD" comment entirely. Then there would be no way anyone would get the wrong idea. The "up to 150 channels" sounds a little more like a promise or a claim they're going to get to that level pretty quickly -like it's something customers can expect. Right now E* is doing pretty badly in delivering on what customers expect.

I don't miss stop signs since I design a lot of signs (mostly big electrical ones) for a living. With that mentioned, I also know a lot about the effect of setting type in certain point sizes and emphasizing some things while minimizing others.

The "up to" part of "up to 150 HD channels" is a minimized, de-emphasized thing. There is no talking around that. If that piece of text was meant to have equal importance with the "150 HD" part of the phrase the "up to" lettering would be been set at a much larger size. Dish counted on people just glancing at the ad and only comprehending the "150" part and little else. That is what they intended.

It's been over six months since I've subbed Dish. I own a 211 (w. R5000-HD & SageTV) and have all the equipment set up. (I'm an installer)

1. If I sign up for the Gold HD-only package now and agree to 24 mo commit, and they add more HD channels next week, can they then charge me more? Do I get the new channels automatically?

2. Can they increase my price, on principle, in February for example, if I'm on a 24 mo commit?

3. Can I sign up with no commit, and if so can they increase my price any time?

4. Is there any way I can get Free Speech TV with an HD only package?

5. Is it possible to get an 18 mo commit?

6. I guess I can get HBO & Starz for 3 mo with commit, but what else can I get added, and what do I have to sacrifice?

7. If I agree to paperless autopay, can I change that back to invoice after say, 3 months? (hate autopay)

1. You get any new channels. Prices are locked in until Feb, but can change them.

2. Yes. Read your commitment.

3. Yes, they can change your price at anytime with or without a commitment. It's your commitment to them, not vice versa. However, normally they lock prices in until each Feb.

4. Don't know.

5. It;s 24 months period now.

6. Commitment also usually gets you the equipment and installation needed to upgrade. You only lose the ability to cancel in 23 or less months.

7. Probably, but you won't get penny Cinemax

Also, the Turbo packs are only for new subs until Feb, so you may be frustrated trying to get it.

The original HD Only package was replaced earlier this year with Turbo HD packages. Those who were already on HD Only were told that they cannot convert to a Turbo HD package and as long as they didn't make big changes to their account they would be left on the HD Only package until Feb 2009. There is much conversation about this but the threads are now a few months old and you will have to search for them. Based on the HD package you are converted to your price will go up $20 to $30 a month.

Your contract ALLOWS Dish to make changes (like dropping 15 of the best all HD 24/7 no commericals channels) and raise prices and you agreed to that when you signed. Go read it again. You cannot get out of your contract for a price increase. You can cancel and pay a fee based on how many months are left on your contract.

Starlink Router question

I set up a music server for my brother a few years ago. It's basically a small headless computer but it needs to have a DHCP IP address reserved for it in the router settings. This was easy to do in his DSL router. He's switching to Starlink now and I was wondering if these setting are easily accessible in the Starlink router. I'm pretty sure he will be getting the latest V5 router.

If you can't get into the router to reserve an IP address just don't use DHCP on the device that needs connected and assign it to a specific IP address in the network settings.

They are not. Your best bet is to set up a third-party router, attached to the Starlink for your server, that you can get into, like a Linksys, etc

The Starlink V5 Install Kit I just got comes with the Mini Router. It is pretty limited in what it can do. For example, it can provide only one IP subnet at a time, no Guest Network, but it does support the pass-thru to a third-party Router. You can also split the Wi-Fi into separate 5 GHz & 2.4 GHz SSIDs to help some IoT devices that don't support 5 GHz bands to work.

The larger Starlink Router that still comes with the V4 Kit does support a Guest Network with separate IPv4 Subnet, but it's $120 from Starlink. And it still won't do DHCP Reservations.

IS Amiko MIRA 3 any good ???
Can you recommend the best to cover all bases. NO BEEPS on certain channels 101w (NEWSMAX ,NEWS NATION), a clock that keeps working STEADY for timed recording ,solid unit with good lifespan. My Amiko died AND my Linkbox has NO Favorites Button and BEEPS on many channels. Picking up 105 west with a NEW SHED IN THE Way with 6 foot Cband ..95 percent quality ...unbelievable.

That's great!

Many people have all sorts of power bricks laying around. Provided the plug fits, and it's the right polarity and same voltage and the same OR higher amps, why not try another one IF the device you want to try it on doesn't seem to work right.

Some people just call them power supplies (which really isn't a good fit in this case), some call them "wall adapters" but it's an external power supply or AC adapter that converts (AC) from a wall outlet into low-voltage (DC) that an electronic device needs to run.

[Give us a summary of what you receive with a 6-footer. I'm very curious.]

Right now on C band getting 105w, a Mexican channel with 95% quality and I am near Detroit! I'm recording a TECHNO MUSIC FESTIVAL today from Mexico ..if you can believe it.....and yes that SHED is partly in the path so I'm puzzled. There are also christian channels on 105w.

105W has some very strong transponders. I received more than four transponders using a 41-inch dish recently. See here.

What supplements have you found that really helped your overall health

Didn't see a thread like this so I figured why not start one. This is about natural supplements. If you aren't into supplements, fine, but please let those of us who do want to discuss this discuss it.

The first one I wanted to mention has been a real life changer. I'm 62 and still do all of my own install work at my business....also do all the yard work at the house. A few years ago I started noticing that I was losing my range of movement, it was even getting hard to bend over and lace up my boots. Almost got stuck in an attic because I couldn't get turned around once the work was done. Didn't think much of it and figured with age comes stiffness that was only going to get worse as time went on.
It was then that I stumbled across a video which was discussing rotator cuff tears and why they were to prevalent these days. Turns out, the culprit is a simple deficiency in MANGANESE which is key in keeping your tendons flexible. Most anti-biotics strip your body of any manganese it might have had which is why certain anti-biotics, especially those in the Cipro family. I actually knew a man who had two tendons tear while on that stuff.
Went to Amazon and ordered some manganese. Now it took a while, it wasn't instant, but gradually I have regained all of my flexibility. I can bend over and touch my toes while standing with no pain and putting on my boots is no longer a chore.
Pretty cheap too. The bottle I ordered was a 200 ct for under $13. They said to take double the normal dose for the first month because most people are severely lacking, then go to one a day.

Andy it builds your bones if I had used it in my food all my life I would not have the joint issues I have there is 3 types of calcium only the one from real foods build better bones

I have taken this stuff for years to help my joints. Over 20 yrs ago my shoulder sounded like it had gravel in it when I rotated it. Started taking this and after a few months I had my range of motion back. I mentioned this product to a doctor and told him the results I had and he totally blew it off....said it was just a coincidence. This has no shellfish like most joint supplements.

IT FIXED my wife's shoulder and knee pain, I only wish I took it before I got into Sat in 83, that beat my body up, I'm still here I turn 85 on the 31th

Heres an article from the Akron Beacon ... seeing Six Flags has bought Cedar Point and Kings Island, they are included ...
I said earlier that Cedar Point doesn't use this type of seat restraint ... well, it does use it, But the difference is, the ones up here ALSO have the Over the shoulder restraint as well ... like I was suggesting that they should have used with the Goliath.

One of the new(er) one at Cedar point the Gate Keeper, uses the Clam shell .. I have rode it many times and have Mostly felt secure, that ride will stop you part way on the ride and you just hang, till the ride is ready to continue ... I typically ride the Front Car ... when its getting ready, you ARE hanging, in the car, looking down .... it would require 2 separate restraint systems to unlock at the same time to possibly get out of it.

Season 2 order already in hand:

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

Here i am over a year later and just finished season 1. Not great but not as bad as I was expecting. Did not care for the barefoot captain stuff but overall ok. Actually looking forward to see what they did for season 2.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

Where is it going to come from -- specifically?

I don't know, but I still don't like her walking through the station or the academy with out her shoes. It looks unprofessional and very "hippy like" for someone of her status and I personally don't get off to feet, so there is that. ;)

Well, the bag can't weigh that much, right? But by law food product packaging must display the actual net weight of the product, i.e., the contents of the container, so by any logic, if not law, a store's stated per-ounce cost should reflect that figure. But since there's not any law regulating shelf statements, a store can say whatever it wants without violating any rules. So I guess the answer is more consumer legislation. Or simply caveat emptor.

I would think that the Vendor/Maker of the product would have a say in it, showing the Correct weight ...
You would think it would be in the contract.

I do look at the ounces of items, but unless its way off, I don't check the math, may have to start now.

Remember when you use to get a 13.5 oz bag of Chips .... Thats a PARTY Size now.

I remember when a pound of coffee was 16oz. Now its 12oz, they don't call it a pound anymore and its three times the cost of the 16oz pound.

The larger discrepancies are likely from a data or sync issue. Digital tags don't cause the error, but they can spread one bad entry across a whole store or region instantly. The small cent differences are probably just rounding in the weight, the price data, or both.

It's simple math. You take the price and divide by the number of ounces and come up with the price per ounce. I find it hard to believe that Walmart's computers can't carry out simple division.

The division isn't the problem, the inputs are. On the Starbucks pods, $9.22 @ $3.35/oz works out to 2.75 oz, but the box is 1.94 oz. So either the system has the wrong weight on file, or the unit price is left over from an older price of about $6.50 that never got updated. Garbage in, garbage out. Walmart's had unit-pricing data problems before, too - in 2024 they paid $1.64M to settle with New Jersey after inspectors found 2,000+ instances of unit prices using the wrong unit of measure.

Wrong unit of measure? Having a hard time believing that or were they conflating solid and fluid ounces (stupid US measuring system).

The first two coffees aren't off on the same amount, so likely the unit price is linked to some previous price. Now I have to *bleeping* double check more math? Does anyone check anything anymore? Bad enough in the professional world having to QA/QC a third party's work. Don't want to have to do that in the grocery store now too! Not with the absurd measures that are used in the US. Is that unit price for blueberries in ounces or pints...

First world problems, but man... argh!!!

Might want to watch this before you buy a new vehicle battery

Love this guy's channel. Looks like Walmart has thrown in the towel when it comes to conventional car batteries.

I bought a new AGM battery from Walmart about a year ago, it is already needing replacing. I thought about just buying a regular battery but from what I've read, that might not be a smart move. Might check my Forscan program and see if I can change the battery type from AGM.
