I've read about 'em, and am currently shopping for a Birdview.
Through many posts on them, I see that some parts may need replacing or remanufacturing.

I've got a buddy with mill and lathe in his garage, and if I needed a new part, I'd have him build it.
Seeing my friends suffer for lack of specialty parts is annoying, and if I can help, I will.

Bronze Bushing:

So far, we've looked at the main bronze bushing.
Without having one here to see, I've had the good fortune to find a photo with dimensions, and run that by my machinist.
It'd be easy to build, and I considered making up half-dozen of them.
But, with the post showing the somewhat similar part from McMaster-Carr, I felt users had a possible source.
That part -might- work, and all it needed was to be cut to length.

Haven't closed the books on that bushing, if someone wants to have more discussion.

Magnet Wheel:

This is another part I would need, so it makes sense to build up a hand full for other users.
The original kit seems to no longer be available.
Much experimenting has been done here on the forum, so we have plenty of information to make a satisfactory wheel and reed kit.

I'm reluctant to make a disc that fits between the motor gearbox and worm gear.
To do so, the coupling needs to be removed by having a pin driven out.
So, my preference is to mount the new wheel at the far end of the worm, where the original gears and potentiometer was located.
To that end, I'm waiting on Phlatwound to post some pictures of the area, and maybe his original 8-magnet wheel.

If the free end of the worm proves too much trouble, then of course the fall-back position would be between motor gearbox and worm.

So, for now, I'm just waiting for pictures, and of course, more discussion is invited.
And if anyone has a source for the 24-magnet wheel that was used in the commercial kits, please let us know.

after market 24 magnet mod

Well, it's also where the commercial third-party kit mounted.
Do you have a pic of that setup?
Here is a picture, I think provided by SwampMan.
It appears to be the same 24-magnet mod that Linuxman used on his first Birdview.
Of course, this one has been in the field for a while. -
Just zoom in for a good close view.

Yes, that is the same commercial magnet wheel I have that I bought from Skyvision for my first Birdview.

Stogie now has it. :)

Stogie has to be one of the luckiest guys I know. His dish has the commercial magnet wheel already installed, and the commercial scaler conversion already installed.

All he had to do was set it in concrete and tune it in.

Well, where's the fun in that?

That almost sounds like cheating! ;)

Well I wouldn't say he cheated, but he got to cut some real fun corners.

He ain't got it set up and tracking yet. :D

I am trying to attach a little drawing of what I did to mount the reed sensor. I hope it takes.

First of all, I got the reed sensor from Radio Shack. It had four wires from it, the two on each end were the ones. I cut off the other two short.

Basically I got a one inch by one inch by about a foot of aluminum angle "iron" from local hardware. I mounted it across two of the bolt holes on the heavy brackets that hold in the worm gear. I bent over a one inch flap and drilled a hole through it the size of the bolt going through it.

Going through the "flap" was a 1 and 1/2 inch nylon countersink screw with two nylon nuts, kind of inexpertly depicted in black. the thing holding the reed sensor is a nylon "spacer" that I drilled out so the reed sensor would snap in there snug. I also cut it off lengthwise, leaving a little more than half of the spacer, so the reed sensor would kind of snap in there and hold as I experimented.

I drilled through the center of the spacer as depicted and also usedd a little bit bigger bit to give it a countersink . It wasn't enough and the head stuck into the space where the reed sensor would sit, so I had to grind off the head some, but not so much as to make it not hold. Something I for got to depict is a nylon nut up against the spacer.

With this mount, I could move the reed sensor further away and closer to the magnet wheel. I could twist the spacer to find the best angle. I could twirl the reed sensor in the spacer until I put its best face forward. When I got that done, I tightened up all nylon screws and I crazy glued the reed sensor in place.

It's worked flawlessly for months.

Hope it helps.

Sorry the image is so small. Maybe you can save it and zoom in. I just tried it. I think it might work

Sheese. I come in from a hard day at the Birdview car wash....and what do I find....

I'll tell you like my Dad usta tell me, Son, I didn't fall off the turnip truck, I was driving that SOB! ;)

THEN, I find THIS:

Sheese! Two Times! By Guys I consider to be my FRIENDS!

THEN, I find the post that's closest to the truth of the matter:
Well I wouldn't say he cheated, but he got to cut some real fun corners.

He ain't got it set up and tracking yet. :D

I am NOT looking forward to aiming this puppy. I said at the beginning that it HAD to be easier than the Paraclipse, but now, I don't know.

Better charge up that cellphone, Linuxman. ;)

add me to the birdview parts list :) i hope to score one or two dishes this next year and it would be a valuable source to be able to locate parts ...within house :D

i suspect the ones i have located haven't been retrofitted yet so i will get to take the fun route :)

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

SpaceX has held talks with Boost's parent company EchoStar in recent months about launching its own signature wireless service through a deal with the company, according to two people familiar with the negotiations.
Musk, the SpaceX CEO, has discussed the deal personally, meeting with EchoStar chairman Charlie Ergen last month, according to the people. The potential deal may result in SpaceX acquiring Boost Mobile or SpaceX gaining access to its network, which it leases from AT&T and T-Mobile US, the people said.
Access to those lease agreements would be a coup for SpaceX. The back door would allow Musk to make a play for a U.S. wireless market that equity research firm MoffettNathanson estimates is worth $235 billion. But the proposed service may need consent from those carriers for the service to actually launch, the people said.

Can't remember where or who I saw predict this. :D

It wouldn't surprise me to see Elon soon own all of DISH / Echostar in the future.

Again, why would Musk want a TV Service, specially one that is losing over a million subscribers a year.

Phone service…maybe, but not TV.

I know he wants TV. He wants to deliver EVERYTHING to EVERYWHERE.

Again, if so, why would he want Dish/Sling of all the providers?

He could deliver anything without actually owning, for example, watching the Lions game in my Tesla Y on it's screen via the YT app, while on the way to my future in-laws on Sunday.

If Musk really wants to buy Boost, he might get a great price once Dish Wireless is out of Chapter 11.

Boost just lost 182,000 subs in the 3rd quarter-

M
Is Dish like Iran in one way...they both will totally collapse by end of week :)
Foxbat
Other than the price, my experience with Boost is not that different than what I experienced with my years with Cricket. I will be curious to see what happens if SpaceX takes the reins.

Hate to say this no one is ordering Satellite TV. Both DISH and Direct no new customers.
After 25 years with centurylink DSL 80 speed i changed to Xfinity 300 speed for $50 wow lightning fast for streaming. Still have DISH 27 years with them. Americas 250 package for $103. What you think of superbox or vseebox for streaming is it legal?
Still dish is easy to operate and change channels. What will Charlie Ergen do with new super satellites with loosing customers with satellites and boost?

Rodney Dangerfield is great. One of his best one liners - "My wife likes to talk to me during sex, last night she called me from Florida!"

Jackie Gleason is another one of the greats.
