AC3 Audio Problem

I'm sorry if this particular question has been asked before, but I'm having trouble getting sound on G18 Retrojams. I looked through the forums and saw where it has AC3 audio instead of mpeg.

My question is whether there is a way for a Coolsat 5000 to decode AC3, or if I have to purchase some other device to get AC3 audio?

CAn others, who have it working, tell us what they have. That number sounds right, but I can not get into my property right now. (I just heard I-5 has now opened --- YEAH !!! NOW if I-90 and 82 are open !! )

One other factor that I haven't seen mentioned above. With some receivers, on AC3 channels, it isn't enough for the receiver to just have the proper APID. The receiver must also know that the audio is AC3. On some receivers, the only way for the receiver to set the audio as being AC3 is to have it scanned in itself or, if the receiver has a capable channel editor, sometimes the channel editors allow you to set the audio as being AC3. Because of this, some receivers cannot do AC3 on manual channels where you specify the PIDs.
But anyway the point is, that if perhaps you have a poor signal, and when the receiver is scanning in the channels, it may get the PID correct, but due to data errors may not determine that the channel is AC3, or perhaps it may not have scanned in PIDs at all, and yout try to manually create the proper PID, but it gets set as type 3 MPEG instead of type 81 AC3.
My Coolsat 8100 sometimes gives me headaches trying to scan in channels off a weak transponder. Sometimes it misses channels, and when I create them manually, there is absolutely no way to create them if they are AC3, because the receiver assumes that they are MPEG.
Anyway, not sure if that might have been related to the issue here or not, but since a rescan seemed to fix it, it's possible.

102 is definately the correct PID. Looking at it right now with TSREADER, and it works.

Output from TSREADER IS:

Elementary Stream PID 102 (0x0066) AC-3 Audio
AC3: Bitrate 128 Kbps Sample Rate 48 KHz
AC3: Mode complete main Coding 2/0 L, R
AC3: Dolby Surround Mode not indicated
AC3: LFE Mode Off Dialogue normalization -27 dB
Descriptor: ISO639 Language Descriptor
Language: spa
Audio type: undefined

I thought the number was large to. But that is how it shows up, and the audio AC3 plays on my home theater. I never looked for the audio pid on this station before, never had a problem with it.

But with all the problems with broadcasts on Galaxy 18 lately I have been rescanning the sat several times, maybe this is reason the number shows up as it does? All I can say is that is how it logged in, and is working.

It could also be that my Coolsat has a glich again. I have been doing a great deal of blind scans with it, and some times forget to turn off sort by SID. When this happens, then strange things to showing up. Also I do a lot of loading and channel editing using channel master, there maybe a problem there.

I will manual change the audio to 101 and 122 and see if the AC3 is still paased, then report back.

OK, my Coolsat has problems. Won't allow me to enter 102, this is a used Coolsat I paid a friend $10 for "a repaired model". I will try a factory reset of it later and rescan to see if it comes up as 102. For now the 16486 number works.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy - Paramount+

Season 2 order already in hand:

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

Here i am over a year later and just finished season 1. Not great but not as bad as I was expecting. Did not care for the barefoot captain stuff but overall ok. Actually looking forward to see what they did for season 2.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

There would still be dirt ,dust in the future I am sure. So walking around the station like she did she would get stuff on her feet. I am sure the robot vacuum is still going to miss stuff, with all those different alien species running around there.

Where is it going to come from -- specifically?

Why do you think cleaning technology won't improve in the next few hundred years? HEPA filtration was invented as part of the Manhattan Project.

I don't know, but I still don't like her walking through the station or the academy with out her shoes. It looks unprofessional and very "hippy like" for someone of her status and I personally don't get off to feet, so there is that.

Stay out of my office. I rarely have shoes or socks on in the office. My office and business is at home though :clapping

It turns out I was justified in my suspicion.

Gavin Newsom somehow authorized the temporary move of the distribution date of the Winter blend to September 28th.

Song Name Game Part 3!

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Since it was already "paid" for, I spent the two hours of my time watching the John Cena action movie on Apple TV, "Matchbox The Movie" even though the reviews were brutal. It was better than I expected, so I didn't feel like I had wasted an afternoon watching it. But it felt like another "Reacher"/"Neghley"/"Mission: Impossible"/"Fast & Furious" crash and blow stuff up with lots of automatic gunfire mixed in movie featuring covert CIA operatives.

I don't think we'll get a follow-up movie from this. I expect Mattel will have other toy lines to exploit.

PISTONS and THUNDER are finally testing on the stream server. PISTONS is showing the Ion/Scripps Sports promo loop filler that their NHL and WNBA feeds have, THUNDER has a "You are watching Thunder+" slate

The Clippers still haven't officially announced their TV plans beyond 10 simulcasts on KTLA, but the NBA's FAQ for ClipperVision is now live. The CLIPPERS feed is currently showing a loop of their Hawaii preseason game.

The Heat still haven't announced their West Palm Beach or Fort Myers affiliates. Since WPLG is streaming the games for free via their app, I doubt we'll be seeing the return of WPLG on stream.

So far nothing testing for the Bucks, Magic, Hawks or Hornets.

West Palm Beach is getting it on WTCN-CD/43 MNT. Still nothing for Fort Myers

Also, the Thunder's deal for KSBI/52 OKC and KQCW/19 Tulsa will be via a special cable and DIRECTV only feed of those stations. OTA viewers and Dish customers will be limited to 10 games.
