Its my opionion that if you teach people about what they can do with a true free to air system the more people you can get involved in the hobby. I know that there are those of you that do NOT want to see the hobby grow, and I can respect that. But you have to understand that without a demand for FTA there would be no FTA EQUIPMENT!! If the hackers are shut down and no one spends money putting up FTA systems then there will be no upgraded equipment, or at least none at an affordable price. I was thinking hard about NOT putting up a C-band dish before I found someone to tell and show me it WAS worth it. Now this spring I will have a BUD up and those of you with a BUD already will gain another person who may help you in the future and at least another to discuss your excitement of this hobby with, because you cannot tell me you wife enjoys talking with you hours on end about the new transopnders that lit up today. If noone had told me what I could see with the BUD I would have passed it by. Wake up people. There are sites out there that you can find anything you want to know. I think it is ashame that the sat guys falls short on this subject, with the exception of a chosen few. I am sorry if I offended anyone here, its not my intent to start a fight or change a long standing rule. I just feel different about this subject.

"For those interested in Wild Feeds, you should know that (True) Blind scan is the most important feature on your FTA receiver."

On another note I have been testing both a pansat 2300 and a 2500. As most of you know the 2300 does not have a blind scan, it functions exactly like a viewsats blind scan once you load the correct transponders. But the 2500, WOW thats a bad mamma jamma!!! When you choose a Blind scan it first scans the sat for the active transponders and puts them in a list and then scans them for channels. That is a TRUE blind scan. I intend to do ALOT more playing with this when I "know" there should be a feed up and once I run it through its paces I plan on posting a comparison with reviews on both the 2300 and the 2500. But you are right a "true" blind scan is very important in finding feeds.
andyb2
I'm well aware of blind scan and it's functions.I'm also aware of the differences of viewsat vs coolsat as I own both(viewsat is not that bad on the ultra).I only asked for a pm as it beats the hell out of scanning a bunch of sats just to find the show is long over by the time you find what sat its on.

What ?
I love what FTA offers , I also loved my old C-band dish way back when even after premium channels went dark and we had no subscription service and made do with whatever channels I could watch.

I don't think that there is anyone that doesn't want to see the hobby grow , this is a special hobby for special people .... and special we are , I can rant and rave about what I get on FTA and 9 out of 10 people can care less , a motor , tinkering ,and blindscanning isn't for everyone , all it takes is one individual to read and take interest in FTA and join the SatGuys forum , we have excellent members that will mentor any individual willing to learn and with patience that individual will learn and enjoy this wonderfull hobby.

Have you ever been told something sensitive yet so exciting or shocking you couldn't contain yourself and ended up telling everyone about only to be asked later to keep it under wraps , and you agreed but it was already too late ?

It's a privelege to watch certain things that were meant for someone else's eyes .

I intend to do ALOT more playing with this (Blindscan) when I "know" there should be a feed up and once I run it through its paces I plan on posting a comparison with reviews on both the 2300 and the 2500. But you are right a "true" blind scan is very important in finding feeds.

It's not about knowing when there is gonna be a feed , it's about stumbling upon it that makes it extra special be it 1am or 7pm.
Blindscan often if you want to see feeds.

If only special people find there way here, those who are truely interested in true fta, then there should be no reason to hide what we may or may not be able to watch. I decided to make the jump to fta because of 1) a person I know is a long time member of this site informed me of what was up there. 2) it seemed fun and it appealed to me. Now I am having a BLAST!! If it were not for someone telling me and teaching me about the wild feeds and also un-encrypted channels I myself would have never gotten started with this hobby, much less put up a big ugly dish on my roof. I am a proud member of another web site that proudly discusses what is found up there. I did not have to jump through a ring of fire or have 1,000 posts to be able to take part in the discussions. I know with being a member of that site and having a friend that is a long time member here I am not missing anything, But its just the point. I found posts on other sites where scott himself has admiitted to watching certen events on FTA . Wether or not they were posted here I do not know but whats the difference? Channels will come and go, and I have seen some go in my very short time using FTA. Do I miss those channels, yes but wtf. Was it another sites fault? I tend to not think so. Right when I started with FTA I was doing blind scans on anything my box would lock on to, I scanned C band sats with KU., I diddn't know any better. I found quite a few channels that were not listed, but I figured that this was "known" because if I found it surely someone else did. It took me a month or so to find a place to dixcuss these channels and to find out that they were "special". Now when I do find these special channels I have a place to talk about them. I just wish it was here. This is the place were I owe Lak7 and others so much for helping me get set up. The knolege that a person can gain from being a member is here is unlimed. We have AWSOME members! Thank you all!! But the fact of the matter is is that there are places that discuss these taboo matters, reguardless if they are on lyngsat or not. Does anyone here really think that if a world feed for the superbowl was posted here 10 mins before the game that it would result in an encryption? I think not.
This site could be #1 with reguards to FTA. I just hate to think that someone who was not as persistant as I was would turn away from getting started with this hobby because someone did not show them the way. Thank you all who have helped me set up my system. I hope I can re pay you some day by finding new channels or feeds but it will have to be by PM or on another site.

Thanks to all that beleave in open disscution and the responce that wild feeds are a part of fta and its great to have open forum.

Has anyone noticed an FF stutter with 713? I used to be able to hit FF a few times and skip smoothly. After 713 (maybe 712), when I skip forward, there is a definite stutter for as many times as I have pressed FF.

Can anyone check on this and report back? Recorded programs and then press skip forward a few times to see if it's smooth? Normally, it just jumps to the right place after the skips.

I'm getting fabulous picture on Ch. 148 4k, but zero audio with H713. This is with a recorded show (Notre Dame game). Anyone else have this? Audio is fine on every other channel.

My wife mentioned that her remote is acting strange this morning. She hit FF and it went to 15x FF.

This has been an ongoing issue. A fix is coming, probably in the next software version.

I have Dish Hopper and Hopper Plus and also have Alexa Echo. I link the Alex skill to Dish and it asks me to enter the pairing code shown on the TV. I go into Dish Settings and there is no Alexa shown. Not sure what to do.

Guys,
Android is Google. Google is Android. Android OS and Google TV are the same thing.
The Hopper+ and Joey 4's run Android TV, which is Google's television version of Android.
That means under the hood, you have:
  • Linux kernel
  • Android framework
  • Google TV / Android TV interface
  • Google Play Store for TV apps
Alexa is the competition. Google is not going to host their competition.
The old Hopper Carbon UI is NOT Google so that's why Alexa was on there.
H
Understood. But here's the rub - Google Assistant setup is ALSO missing from the Hopper Plus setup. I'm a paraplegic.and need to use voice controls as much as possible but I can't press a button on the remote to activate Google Assistant. I prefer ALEXA (or ALEXA+) but I have one older google device and will go that route IF they make it available. BTW calling Dish Customer Service is no help- they just say they have no info on if/when there will be an update.

Season 2 order already in hand:

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

I'm sure I will watch at least the first episode but I am not optimistic.

Paramount lost a number of the Star Trek creative crew to other projects, like Ron Moore going on to BSG and "For All Mankind". I see Denise and Michael Okuda are also involved with FAM.

Here i am over a year later and just finished season 1. Not great but not as bad as I was expecting. Did not care for the barefoot captain stuff but overall ok. Actually looking forward to see what they did for season 2.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

Where would this "dirt" come from? Dead skin and dandruff?

There would still be dirt ,dust in the future I am sure. So walking around the station like she did she would get stuff on her feet. I am sure the robot vacuum is still going to miss stuff, with all those different alien species running around there.

A continuation of a thread from the pub, just general discussion of AI.

Brief 60 minute clip about next gem autonomous fighters - not remote controlled, but rather collaborating with controllers and aircraft in the theater.

Agreed, it mostly regurgitates known solutions. That's the point. Nobody needs an innovative fix for a driver error or a creative way to format a report. Let it handle the solved problems so people can spend their time on the ones that aren't.

That's the point at which innovation ends, and there's no longer any point to software engineering other than swatting bugs that result from misapplication.

Addressed by what you didn't quote. This cycle is as old as computing: compilers, libraries, frameworks each automated the tedious part, and the human work moved up a level. Innovation didn't end; it shifted. And people still make new compilers, libraries or frameworks.

Nobody's forced to hand anything off. Anyone who wants to keep doing it by hand still can, and people who couldn't do it at all now can.

... and people who couldn't do it at all now can.
Misapplication isn't something that the casual coder can identify. They can only discover, the hard way, that it doesn't work at some point.

You're not wrong, but that's part of learning. Whether from others or our own mistakes, we've all learned that lesson one way or another.

I'm not sure that the school of hard knocks is the quickest or surest education to find your way.

There are many examples in the headlines of people getting burned multiple times and not wavering in their pursuit of stupidity.

Good thing not everyone will have to learn the hard way then. The same tools can explain why something broke.

This is true of literally anything, though.

Happy to agree to disagree, but I'm already enjoying the dividends personally and helping others at work and at home do the same.

Been reading this thread but not commenting much, primarily because there is so much "news" out there on this topic and it is hard to tell what is real and what is theater.
My biggest problem with AI is that these agents are taught...not necessarily programmed but taught. Well, there's an old saying "garbage in/garbage out". I remember a Joe Rogan show a while back when he had Elon Musk on and they talked about AI and Elon said one of the AIs (can't remember which one, sorry) was asked which was worse, Thermonuclear War or mis-gendering Kaitlyn Jenner and it came back with the answer that mis-gendering was worse. Now forget the politics involved with all the gender stuff we have been subjected to the past few years.....to say that mis-gendering is worse than the killing of hundreds of millions, perhaps billions of human beings.....Kaitlyn Jenner included.....is simply insane not to mention incredibly dangerous.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Last night it was about $4.17 gas, $6,19 diesel.
