Note One: I have a 722 DVR as well as a 222k. To date, I have not had any issues with the 222k other than the Tech Issues as described below (including the local channel issue) however, the box has not needed replacement.

Note Two: I had Dish in 2007 and Early 2008. I had the 625 and 322. I never had a issue from day one. Installation went great (Installer even programmed remotes for VCR, etc.) Local Channels worked fine, etc.

Note Three: My mom's company (where I also used to work before being laid off) contracts with Dish Network to provide video service for their customers. They have well over 10,000 customers. She warned me that her company has been having a lot of service issues with Dish and that the company is moving to DirecTV. As having had Dish in the recent past, and knowing that my mom's company uses Dish Commerical (not the same Dish as regular customers use) I didn't pay much attention to this.

The Order: So, after pricing Cable, DirecTV, and Dish... Dish seemed to be the best fit for me. I also love the two room receivers because this would mean I would be able to watch my DVR recordings in my office as well as my bedroom. I was informed that since I live on the East Coast that I must get HD equipment. I thought this was a little odd so I called back a few times to speak to a few different people and each of them said the same thing and said there is no extra charge for the HD Receivers. Note: I do not have a HDTV in my home. So, I decided to go with it as I figured I would eventually get a HDTV anyway. I was also able to get the current promotion at the time. So, for the most part, the order went smooth.

Installation: Young kid came out to install my service. As I had Dish Network in the past, my house was already wired. He didn't seem to know where to start, so I explained to him that I had Dish Network before and that all he would need to do is to change out two splitters with two duplexers under the home. I showed him where the old dish used to be, and how it was fed to the duplexers. He did not have to run any coax, but would have to relocate to dish to the roof due to using different sat's. He was here for well over 6 hours. He was clueless, he tried hooking up my NON-HDTV using HD Cables (of course which got a scrolling picture) and didn't understand why it wasn't working. He was an idiot.

Tech Visit One: So, shortly after the install, I started having some issues. My local channels were breaking up very bad and had green blocks mixed in with the picture, and all my other channels were breaking up, even on a clear day. I called Dish and was told that my signal was way too weak, so they send a tech out. It was the same guy. He was here for 4 hours trying to adjust the dish to get a better signal. The local channels were still breaking up and he said he didn't know why and he did everything he could do. As soon as left, I called Dish Network to inform them of this and of course they had me do more troubleshooting. They said they would send out a regional manager to my home instead of the same Tech.

QA Visit: A day or two later, a guy starts knocking on my door. He informed me he was with QA and wanted to look over the install of the Dish. I explained to him the issues I had been having and that was when he admitted that there have been some complaints about the installer which is why he was going around doing QA's.

Tech Visit Two: This is when the regional manager came out to check everything. I explained all the issues I've been having to him. He checked all the equipment and the Dish. He said he made some adjustments. He informed me that the local channels issue (breaking up, green boxes, etc) is from the feed of the local stations and that there is nothing they can do about it. He also stated that the reason my other channels are breaking up and that I have a low signal is because Dish lost a satellite in orbit. I smell BS.

Note: So, by this point, I have had several techs in my home and have spent countless hours on the phone with Dish Network. At the end of this, my local channels are still having issues. So, I get to watch the 6 O'clock news with green boxes and skipping. Oh Joy! I might as well be using bunny ears!

First Bill: So, I get my first bill and I noticed that nothing was correct. I had to call dish to have my bill adjusted and the promotions applied. Oh Joy!

Dish 722 DVR One: So, This is my first box from dish, the one the installer hooked up. I started recording some TV Show's and movies. As I went to play them back, I noticed that they were skipping, freezing, and had audio loss. I also noticed the same thing when I tried to pause a live show and tried to play it. So, I called Dish which had me do general troubleshooting. They also had me go into Menu, System Setup, Installation, System Info, and press Details. On this screen, they had me read off some Values (numbered 0-10) I read off Value 7 which was -2. He said that my DVR was bad and would need to be replaced. He sent one via UPS.

Dish 722 DVR Two: So, I got my new DVR. I connected everything up and activated it. Moment's later, the box just shuts off for no reason and reboots. It comes back up and about 20 minutes later it does the same thing. I called Dish, did some troubleshooting and they said to try it again for a while to see what happens. As soon as I got off the phone, boom, box reboots. I waited to see if it would do it again... sure enough it did. I called Dish back and they said the box is bad, that maybe it was overheating or the power supply was bad. Yet another replacement was sent to me.

Dish 722 DVR Three: By now, I am starting to get a little tired of all these issues. Either way, I activated the box and all seemed well for about 3 weeks. I had 60 recordings or so on the box. As I had some free time, I decided to go back and watch some of those recordings. I noticed that a few of the recordings were doing the same as box number one was. I also noticed issues pausing on some channels. I called Dish, did the normal troubleshooting. He had me read off Value 7 which was -2. He informed me that it should be 4 and that the box would need to be replaced. I asked if he could waive the $39.99 activation charge for external hard drives (so I could back up my recordings) due to all the issues I've had and he said NO right away. I called back a day later and spoke with a supervisor and she waived the fee so I could back up some of my recordings. Thanks Dish.

Dish 722 DVR Four PART 1: By now, I've just about had it. So, I called Dish to activate this box. It didn't activate and I could only view the Dish FYI channel. After 3 phone calls, and a ton of troubleshooting, a Tech was scheduled to come out to check my Dish because the box isn't taking the hit. I left the box to sit.

The Call: So, by this point I decided enough was enough and called Dish to cancel. I explained all the issues to the guy and he said that this is not normal for dish and that he would give me a month free ($83 credit) as well as give me $10 off each month for the next 12 months. This seemed like a pretty decent deal so I decided to stay.

Dish 722 DVR Four PART 2: By now, It's been a couple of hours. I decided to go back to the TV and I noticed that the box was turned on (I left it turned off) so I turned on my TV and noticed the Dish FYI Channel was on. I figured "What the hell" and pressed the guide button. Sure enough, all my channels were listed and were working. GREAT! I thought. So, I called dish back and cancelled the tech appointment as all seemed well.

Dish 722 DVR Four PART 3: So, I'm watching TV and had to step away for a minute so I paused the live TV (I'm sure by now you know where this is going) I then came back and pressed play... The picture was video and audio were skipping as well as moments of freezing. I tried another channel, same issue. I tried recording a show, same issue. I decided to do a unplug the unit for 30 minutes. I powered it up and sure enough, I had the same issues. I decided to check the Value 7 before I called Dish again. Sure enough, it was/is -2, just as the other two were. I called Dish and did the normal troubleshooting. She had me read her the values and told me that since this is a new box that they can't/won't do anything for 72 hours. She told me to record a few programs and see what happens during that time frame and if I was still having issues in 72 hours to call back so a replacement can be sent (again).

Current: By now, I've just about had it. I'm 2 seconds from canceling Dish and just going back to Basic Cable with Netflix. I really don't know what to do at this point. I think 5 receivers is more than enough, and even then, this still doesn't fix the local channels issue.

both my 722 are -2 at value 7, I wonder what that means they seem to work just fine..........
I
my house was already wired.

Hot drop with all new cabling from dish to receiver and flat out eliminate any cable/connector issues that way. Quick and easy enough imo. You never know whats happened or going on inside those walls for sure or other places the cabling might not of been checked.

As far as signal strengths, around here low 40s to 50 are about the normal reading we get on EA

Just had a new 722K installed this morning and have the same -2 reading for value 7. Service tech stated that there is a high failure rate for equipment made in Mexico---China and India OK.

What I mean't was that my house was already wired from when I had Dish Installed in 2007. I bought my home back in 2007 and it did not have any wires for phone or cable... so when I had Dish installed in 2007, they had to run coax all over my house to the Dish.

Either way, I tried the 722 in the 222k location and got the same results.

Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you have jurky video when playing back recorded programs or when playing back the buffer on your 722, right?

If the live video does not exhibit the jurky character of the recorded video, I'd tend to blame the problem on either software or a flaky hard drive.

If your live video is good but anything off the HDD is abnormal - it is an indication of a problem with the hard drive.

Since the TiVo law suit dish has changed the way the video stream is handled, recording it as it comes in while playing it sumultaneously, until you hit pause or record, then you are watching video off the HDD, not the live stream.

BTY, I've had two 622's since they were introduced in Feb. 2006, I believe it was. I've read reports of people havein similar problems but never experienced it myself (first 622's HDD just cratered after 18 mos., replaced it and no problems with replacement in last 18 mos or more).

Yes, it only does it when it's playing off the hard drive (such as after I pause it or watching a recorded event) however, it doesn't do it on all channels, only some.. it seems like HBO is the worst.

This is my 4th DVR and they all have done the exact same thing, so I don't really think it's a hard drive issue at this point. The only thing I can think of it's a software bug or an issue with copy protection (HBO)

I also spoke with my mom regarding the local channel issue and she said that her company is having the same issue with dish in several markets... so who knows.

I guess I'll just deal with it for now only because Dish offers the channels that I want.

I know HipKat said that they were working on conversions but we got the official news yesterday right from Dish that starting next month all DMA's will be on the western arc, and all customers will be assigned to that. That's gonna mean a lot of customers around here aren't gonna get Dish unless there are exceptions. Too many mountains and trees.

I don't know why DISH doesn't just start a streaming version of DISH and then if you can't see the western arc you go with streaming versions and then they could keep customers if they had good internet speeds. I mean Sling TV could be changed to Streaming DISH TV if they wanted since both companies are under Echostar. Then you would still be able to use your ota antenna with Air TV devices like I do with Air TV Anywhere with 4 ota tuners.

I watch mostly SD channels (H&I, Start and ION, etc.). There are plenty of advertisers, this time of the year it is mostly Medicare Advantage plans, auto extended warranties and the occasional walk-in-tub. They know who is watching.

Doesn't mean that satellite would have to go away. Dish is already in the game with Sling which needs a good overhaul

Dish Anywhere has gotten a lot better but still has no Pause/Play/Skip Trick Play controls on the national channels that stream from Dish and that don't come from you Hopper. DirecTV Stream doesn't have that limitation.

And the same reason why DISH removing satellite 118 for international channels is a bad idea as at least in my case, TVB Jade World costs $29.99/month and depends on a internet connection for the signal transport to the DISH Hopper 3 + Hopper Plus to stream the channel which makes it unavailable on DISH Anywhere and also I am providing the transport pipe at my own expense when it was supposed to be a dedicated connection via satellite between DISH and the DISH equipment.

If you ponied up for an iPhone Duo, keep it away from anything other than your soft, fleshy fingertips. No fingernails, no dust, sand, dirt, or other particulate matter. And don't bend it more than it needs to. Zack has destroyed $2,000 of Apple hardware to get those views, which should cover his expenses.

IFixIt has published their Teardown and they had some positive things to say about the iPhone Duo. It still showed some dust ingress into the hinge assembly but seemed otherwise well-sealed.

But with a considerable number of reports of the main screen dying with similar failures, AppleCare+ should be a no-brainer for this phone.

I'm thinking of switching to DirecTV and wanted to know what equipment I should be asking for.

I'm wanting wired satellite due to that fact that I live in the sticks and there is no reliable, decent speed internet for streaming available.

What would be the correct equipment for three 4K tvs in the house?

If they are requiring all clients on a new HS17 install to be wireless, that is not a technical requirement. It saves their techs from having to pull coax all over the house. It makes installations cheaper.
Jimbo
The DirecTV order entry work flow doesn't allow wired clients with an HS17. Does that clear it up for you?
Yet the C61k (4k unit) was wired only ?
That was the only unit available for the HS17 if you wanted 4K

How does that work ?

Or do I havwe that flip flopped ?

I think Dish might be the only service that still wires houses. The cable company has gone wireless, Verizon is switching all their copper line customers to wireless, DirecTV Stream, even most surveillance and alarm systems are going wireless.

It's not a poor design when you factor in that it has a Wireless Video Bridge built-in. It's shaped like a router or gateway for a reason.

We're a DirecTV retailer and there is no where in the order entry flow to have wired clients with an HS17. I heard that when it's ordered on the website the installer shows up with only HS17's and wireless clients. I don't know how reliable that info is as it came from a dubious source but it makes sense.

Well, different strokes and all that. I've had that HS17 sitting quietly doing its job for almost a decade. As I mentioned earlier, at one point I had two wired and two wireless receivers. Now, just one C61K.

Even before that I had a HR44 with an HR24 and two wireless minis. Back then, which was years ago, I would have agreed with the need for individual receivers, but at this point, I stream almost everything, including shows I used to record.

It'll be moot soon enough anyway. Wired receivers/DVRs are going the way of the POTS landline. You can't stop progress.

So now they eat coax instead! 20 acres of dense woods behind me and my stuff tastes better, either veggies or wires!

The playoff told us rankings are pointless. Lesser ranked teams were winning playoff games. Ranking the top 24? Rank it the same way as normal. It'll consist of at least four or five of each cartel's teams, other conference winners. The field will be fine, the sorting will be problematic and arbitrary, but in the end does it matter?

It'll matter when OSU or Alabama have to face a decent upstart squad due to being ranked midway in the listing, or goodness help us, each other. But thanks to arbitrary rankings, that should be easily avoided by design. Then the cartels will need to fix the rankings a bit so the top dogs can have a bye or three to help prevent those untimely eliminations from the playoff.

For better or worse, NIL and the transfer portal have evened the field. NCAA will be pretty much like the NFL with records being kind of meaningless and anyone can make a run and win it all.

As for meeting each other, you say they automatically avoid ... not really, if I recall, when Ohio State won in 2 years ago, they had the toughest route to win it all .... they played Tennessee, then it was the #1 team Oregon, in round 2 then Texas in round 3 then Notre Dame in the Finals .... thats hardly avoiding the tough match ups.

Personally, I don't want to see 42- 10 blowouts in the first 2 rounds ....

Not sure where you found lesser teams beating higher ranked teams ... (outside of the Top teams, which any could beat each other (1-8).

Which in my opinion is where the Playoffs should be teams 1-8 .
Team number 64 has ZERO chance to win 4-5 games against top teams.

Btw, whens the last time a (in basketball) 32-64 ranked team WON it all, or even got to the Final 2 ?????

I'll wait.

You mean other than Miami being in the final last year... and Indiana being the only bye team to win a game?
Ronnie-
I see alot saying nobody is good because several have a loss or two. I disagree. I think more teams are good now, and even.

Its made for some more competitive games imo.

The NIL and tranfer portal definitely need some work, or guidelines, but it has evened stuff out somewhat.

Even the expanded playoff. While it does make a single regular season game less relevant in the overall picture, its added a different level of interest imo. Losing a game, or two even, doesnt mean your season is over. The teams still have ALOT to play for.

I am not as against this (as a whole that still needs tweaking) as I thought I would be. More competitive football, I think that is a good thing.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....
