Hi guys,

I have sg2100 with the 75cm offset dish... and standar linear LNB.. with the DVB-S Vision plus...what do I need to have the motor set up.. or it is just that... ?

Do I need usals software...?
Can I use the DVBdream to get the motor directed...?
Do I need to set up the motor to true south? (I live in miami)

If can set up my system with the motoir from the beging that will be great.:)

Thanks in advance. :up

Virtually any DVB receiver will run your motor, and you can use either USALS or DiseqC-1.2, ie you don't "need" USALS software, but it's part of most software that runs the Twinhan. However it sounds like for you, you need to first align your system, and aligning a dish with a computer card receiver can be difficult in some respects. Most hobbiests would probably suggest using a STB for the alignment process, since you can take that out to the dish, and the signal meters are a bit faster in response, although still slow compared to analog standards.
If you MUST align your dish with a computer card, I would really recommend trying to use a program called THMOVER, which is a very simple program that will allow you to type in freq/sr , move the dish via diseqC-1.2, and see a signal meter. However you still really need to be able to see this display from the dish while you're making adjustments. Since your Twinhan is likely in a desktop computer that can't easily be moved, I think the best way to handle this problem is to use a laptop connected to your desktop by wireless network. Ie you can run a VNC server on the Twinhan desktop, and a VNC viewer on the laptop, and this will allow you to see the S/Q meter on your laptop out at the dish. I had hopes of doing this myself, however I forgot that there was a metal roof between my wireless router, and it didn't have enough range to get out to my dish unfortunately.
One thing about the Twinhan though, and that is to make sure that you have an ample power supply in your computer. I originally had a slightly underpowered power supply in my computer, and while the Twinhan worked fine as a receiver, the power supply introduced a lot of noise onto the coax, which seemed to interfere with the DiseqC signals. I could see the noise on an oscilloscope. After I upgraded my power supply, the Twinhan worked fine with DiseqC, and moved the dish fine, and switched switches fine. I've read a lot of posts suggesting that the Twinhan had problems with certain DiseqC hardware, some giving instructions for fixing the hardware, but I think the problems may all be related to noise from the computer's power supplies.

Thanks for the answer... My DVB is compatible with (USUAL-diseqc 1.2) like the H-H sg2100 motor... this mean that the swith (diseqc) has to be 1.2? I have a diseqc 2.0 to use for 2 antenna.. dish500 and the one 75cm dish .. but I will use the motor in the 75cm... is there any problem for that.. I mean to send the commands to the motor or not?.. I wil check my powersupply and see if I have to change it... the true is that I haven't try the motor with it... but the other day I connect the motor and moved it manually.. and then stop and put the red light .. I don't know if it is more power need it or .. I have to try it again mand see what happend.

So.. I don't need to put the motor in true south?

Thanks

My power issue was not that the computer didn't have enough power to move the dish, but that I only had a ~ 300-350W power supply in a computer that had several cards in slots and several hard disks, and the power supply was just generally over worked and that resulted in noise that was close in freq to the 22Khz used by DiseqC . When I replaced that power supply with one closer to 500W, I didn't have a problem.

Re needing to use true south, yes, to align your dish, you first have to find your true south sat and peak your dish elevation (having set your motor elevation properly), then motor to an extreme sat, and peak that via turning the entire mount on the pole. This is an alignment issue required for any motor or even if you move the dish by hand, not so much related to the computer-- SG2100 questions I thought you were asking.

Regular DiseqC is for regular 1 directional switches. DiseqC-1.2 is for motors. I have no experience with the 2 directional devices, so I've never needed DiseqC-2.0 . I guess I should ask what you're plans are for the DN part of the system, and why you need a DiseqC-2.0 switch. I'm assuming that you're using that via a separate Dishnet receiver, or is this all for NASA-TV or something?

I am pretty new in all this so.. reading and reading some times get wrong infomation or I don't know how to read it:o the diseqc I just bough it without know.. so that means that I have to buy a diseqc 1.2 to join the two antennas.

If you want the motor to be able to follow the arc, the motor MUST be oriented to true south. Usually this is most simply done by peaking on your true south sat. It doesn't matter whether you use USALS, DiseqC-1.2 or move the dish by hand, if you want to align it, it must be aligned south. USALS just makes it easier to find other sats once the system is aligned. BTW, I assume that you're talking about using the 2100 to move your 75 cm dish, not the DN dish?

DiseqC-1.2 has nothing to do with joining two antennas. As I said, DiseqC-1.2 is the protocol your computer program uses to tell the dish to move, and to where.

Now.... why do you want to join 2 dishes? What channels are you planning to receive with the Dishnet dish? If you trying to use it to receive encrypted dishnet programming, then, as you were told in another thread, you should be contacting Dishnet, and pay them to set it up for you and if this is the case, you cannot "join" the dishnet dish with your FTA dish. If you're trying to use that dish to receive unencrypted programming, then you can use a regular diseqC switch (not 2.0 or 1.2) to connect both dishes to one coax, however it would help to know what specific channels you're interested in receiving, as the hardware and software requirred may depend upon what channels you're trying to receive. What are you trying to receive with the FTA dish too? I think I saw that you were trying to receive Hispasat, but not all the channels on those sats can be received with some hardware, and from all locations. Before you get more involved in this, I think you need to explain what you're trying to do, because it might either not be possible with your hardware and/or your view of the sky, or it might not be legal if you're expecting to receive encrypted channels.

Now I understand a little better... No, I have the dish becasue I though that I could be avaible to get FTA with it to start with, but the tecnichian told me I can't that's why I had to buy the 75cm which I plan to use with the sg2100.. because my sky view is too limited to eastern arc. I would like to be able to see hispasat... the tecnichian and I tried with no answer... I guess the frecuency configuration of the LNB wasn't right in the software.. which I will try again on Sunday and see if I can get any signal quality.

So I will have to align the motor to true south no matter what.. it will hard for me because in my posistion I don't see that degree, the building is on my side covering... but I have the degree for it.. so I can just point the antenna to that direction, I hope get right if not I won't get right psat possition.

Re Hispasat, just make sure you're trying to tune a transponder with an "America" footprint, not the Europe footprint.

Re aligning without being able to see the south sat, just be extra careful to try to set your motor and dish angle as well as you can, and try to align the motor as best you can toward the south, then use USALS and send the dish to the sat closest to south that you can see from your location. When you find that, I'd make minor corrections to the dish elevation and also peak via rotating the whole dish on the mount to refine the south alignment of the motor. Then motor on to sats further to the east, but I wouldn't touch either elevation setting on those, just small mount on pole adjustments. It's harder to align when you can't see the south sat, but on the other hand, you don't need to be perfect since you can't see the whole arc.

It's probably been 2 decades since I've listened to an AM radio station. Very rarely listen to FM any more.

I am 1 that wants the AM to Stay ....
That said, since '08 I have had Sat radio available to me ... I think I have turned on AM 3 or 4 times, just to see if its still there.

Fwiw, if theres a Major disaster or bad weather or whatever, the chances of me finding out about it by going to the AM side of the radio is SLIM and None.
Even FM, I haven't really had on since '13ish, I may turn it on from time to time, just to see if its still there.

Automation has seen to that. You can't get evening drive traffic reports where I live, much less disaster reports.

That goes for a lot of people. I've been advertising on radio for more than a decade now and am very familiar with this subject. While it is still a valuable tool, it has far less impact than it did just a few years ago. The best reaction I get is from a local Country music station....they play a mix of older and newer music and have a very big footprint.

Do you do any Ad's on Satellite ?

No, just regular FM stations. One is the country station I mentioned and the other is a Talk Radio station which used to get fantastic results but honestly, since the death of Rush Limbaugh, talk radio just doesn't do as well. There were two guys who had an early morning show which was hugely popular here in the southeast but one of them retired a couple years ago and the show just doesn't garner the same numbers as it used to.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

IFixIt has published their Teardown and they had some positive things to say about the iPhone Duo. It still showed some dust ingress into the hinge assembly but seemed otherwise well-sealed.

But with a considerable number of reports of the main screen dying with similar failures, AppleCare+ should be a no-brainer for this phone.

Hello folks, well my luck ran out last week with a nasty thunderstorm and after 39 years here, finally took a hit. Now, the FTA receivers I had for some years worked great until now. Recently picked up a fairly cheap receiver, online, KOQIT and seems to be good, but for the life of me, I cannot get the HDMI output to work with 3 of my Samsung monitors. I can hook it up to my Samsung TV and its HDMI input and it works fine. The 2 receivers I lost also worked fine with them, so am I going crazy? anyone have come across this or have any suggestions? And, since this is a somewhat cheap unit but works, what is everyone out there using for receivers these days? without breaking the bank? I enjoy watching FTA TV, so I will invest more if needed, what is a really good, detailed unit these days. I'm so use to watching a few of them HD channels. Right now I'm down to composite hookups, yuck! Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Frank

Take the cover off, show me pics of the board of the bad one and also the bottom of the board. I'm an old hardware electronics tech plus a satellite dealer; I fixed a lot of FTA and regular receivers. I may be able to fix it for you. And yes, they got hit by lightning; it's best to email me the pics at diamondsatellite@snet.net or call me at 203-232-8888. I give you a 50-50 chance of fixing it; I do have spare parts. my phone is a fliptop phone

Anybody know how to add "hidden" audio channels like for 101 W Ku or 105W C band on these recvr's? I've exported the database file but don't have anything that will read or edit it.
cyberham
For 105W C, you scan in the Westwood tp normally. Then select the audio channel you want. Not necessary to manually enter. On 101W, you must manually enter.

Seems like I remember that now, with my V9 I manually entered anyway on 105, easier for me to pick the channel later :)

Can you recommend the best to cover all bases. NO BEEPS on certain channels 101w (NEWSMAX ,NEWS NATION), a clock that keeps working STEADY for timed recording ,solid unit with good lifespan. My Amiko died AND my Linkbox has NO Favorites Button and BEEPS on many channels. Picking up 105 west with a NEW SHED IN THE Way with 6 foot Cband ..95 percent quality ...unbelievable.

That's great!

Many people have all sorts of power bricks laying around. Provided the plug fits, and it's the right polarity and same voltage and the same OR higher amps, why not try another one IF the device you want to try it on doesn't seem to work right.

Some people just call them power supplies (which really isn't a good fit in this case), some call them "wall adapters" but it's an external power supply or AC adapter that converts (AC) from a wall outlet into low-voltage (DC) that an electronic device needs to run.

The Westwood One Mux on 105W would likely be receivable, has some good music channels on there. It does scan in, but it's more convenient to manually enter the PIDs, check out Lyngsat for the channels: EchoStar 105/SES 11 at 105.0°W - LyngSat

I use a 10 footer (only C-band dish I have), but it's very strong.

Really excited for this season with Kentucky having a new coach and some really exciting recruits. Probably won't last long, but here's hoping this season is great.

You mean other than Miami being in the final last year... and Indiana being the only bye team to win a game?

No, I was actually referring to outside of the Top 8, but should have been Top 12 ...

I guess I should have looked at the bracket from last year first ...

I'm more thinking about them trying to expect a 15 to beat a 5 seed or there abouts .

And no teams deserve a bye! Injuries are the largest part of the game that you cant practice for them. Any team can suffer the worst injury at any position on any play. No favorites.

While the bye can help the top four teams and those the Cartels would like to protect in the playoff, I think the bye is also about making the Cartel championships mean something. One problem with a playoff is it does diminish the conference title a bit.

Once the 24 gets here, there won't be anymore Conference Championships .... or so they say.

Oh what the hell, we really don't need Conferences anymore either ...:coco:(

I mean you get upsets all the time.

Just a couple of weeks ago. Unranked Florida knocked off number 7 texas. Unranked Auburn beat number 1 Georgia.

This week unranked Cincinnati beat number 8 texas Tech. Unranked UCF beat number 2 BYU.

No reason to think similar upsets wont happen in the playoffs where a low seed can upset a higher one.

Yep, wonder why we rank the top 25 in 2 poles still? Do the ranking change much if they are unranked or have many loses? They sure do, any given day never take your opponent as a cake walk.....

Correct, you Do get upsets from time to time ....however .
You Don't get teams UPSETTING teams for 5 weeks in a row.

They are trying to make this Basketball and its a far cry from the way that is played.

How long till they go to 32 teams ? Then they will say, well, the NFL is 32 teams, we can make more money that way .... except the NFL is 32 teams, that are a set number of teams and divisions, you don't have that in College ... oh but they will try.

They would have to choose what teams they would want in and thats it.
Hopefully that NEVER happens.

I can see the NCAA going away and the CFP taking that portion over and a Collective Bargaining agreement coming in the not to distant future.

The problem with rankings and playoffs is that they are designed to hype the game and make money. Period.

The only reason that BYU and Texas Tech were upsets is that they were hyped up in the standings in the first place. I love watching BYU and Bear Bachmeier. They are a fun and talented team, but not nearly so strong, fast, big, and skilled as a true top ten team. Does anyone truly believe they could compete with the likes of Georgia, Ohio State, Indiana, Alabama, etc.? Yet, they were ranked above those teams.

Each year, there are 10 to 12 teams who truly could compete for the championship if it depended on winning more than one game in a playoff. Including teams like James Madison, Tulane, BYU, etc. in a playoff has nothing to do with determining a national champion. It's just about money.

I know HipKat said that they were working on conversions but we got the official news yesterday right from Dish that starting next month all DMA's will be on the western arc, and all customers will be assigned to that. That's gonna mean a lot of customers around here aren't gonna get Dish unless there are exceptions. Too many mountains and trees.

I don't know why DISH doesn't just start a streaming version of DISH and then if you can't see the western arc you go with streaming versions and then they could keep customers if they had good internet speeds. I mean Sling TV could be changed to Streaming DISH TV if they wanted since both companies are under Echostar. Then you would still be able to use your ota antenna with Air TV devices like I do with Air TV Anywhere with 4 ota tuners.

Even if you are broadcasting old SD-only shows, I would think advertisers would still want their commercials to look good.

Advertisers on SD channels are probably Far and Few, very hard to find, they have very few viewers to watch them.

I watch mostly SD channels (H&I, Start and ION, etc.). There are plenty of advertisers, this time of the year it is mostly Medicare Advantage plans, auto extended warranties and the occasional walk-in-tub. They know who is watching.

Why didn't Charlie end up launching starlink
Because he didn't have a fleet of reusable rockets. Starlink works because SpaceX is able to launch hundreds (thousands?) of their Starlink satellites for what a single geostationary Internet satellite costs to build and launch on a disposable launcher.

But how is it reusable if it's disposable
