I have a pansat 150m and a 8' c-band dish setup. My inline meter and a compas say I am pointed at 97W G-19. LO set to 5150 and getting a level reading of 80% but a quality of 0%. Inline meter is at 9. Receiver set to 3905 V 4166. Any Ideas??

Thank you Inno and EcruzBud.
Good questions, here are the answers.
I only have the pansat 150m. I bought my house and it had the dish already in place. It has a control arm but I do not have a controler (yet). I detached the arm temporaraly so I can move the dish around. I did not change the elevation of the dish, it is firmly planted on a large diameter pole in the back yard. It has a chaparral freehorn and an LNB with a servo motor ( can't control that yet ether). I am not sure how the servo works but I assume that the servo moves the small metal rode/hook inside the freehorn. Does it go up and down or swivel? It is currently up or very close to the servo motor. It has a standard LNB that can be picked up for $20 online (I looked it up by the model number). I am new to C-band. I have an 18" Ku for dish network on the house and I was able to hook it up and pull down Nasa from dish (everything else was blocked as it should be). I pulled down and loaded the lates bin from pansat. If the inline beeps at and the meter goes to 9 does that mean I am pointed at a satellite? Once pointed should I take it out?
Inno
Ok, without being able to control the servo (also known as polarotor) you will only be able to access half of the available transponders on a given satellite. It rotates approx 45° when switching between horizontal and vertical transponders.
If the dish was there when you moved in, it's likely already correctly set up and may only need minor adjustment to make it track properly.
It would be easier to see if things worked if you had an old analog receiver which would control the servo as well as move the dish.

What you will have to do is move the dish to a satellite where you get a signal reading and approximate which satellite you think it is. Then go to SatelliteGuys.US - TheList and find an active transponder on that particular satellite. Probably best if you manually enter the transponder info. into the receiver, frequency, polarity and Symbol Rate. If you are on the satellite you think you are then you should see quality as well as signal strength. If you do not see signal strength, try a transponder of opposite polarity (H as opposed to V) and see if that works...........this step is because you do not have control over your polarity and your feedhorn is either set to H (horizontal) or V (vertical) already.

This should at least tell you if the dish is aligned and the LNB works. To make things simpler, what I have done is installed an LNBF (lnb and feedhorn all in one unit). Instead of having a servo to change polarity it uses changes in input voltage (13 or 18V) to determine which polarity to select. Your pansat will control this type of polarity and there is less wiring to hook up! As far as moving the dish, you could either get a V-Box or hook up an old analog receiver just for moving the dish. The V-box being the simpler of the two choices. I don't have one so I can't comment on them but it seems that a lot of the guys here have them. I use an old analog receiver to move my C-Band dish.

Good luck and happy hunting!
Inno
It's probably ok to leave your satellite meter inline for testing purposes but it may drop your signal quality a bit..........I have seen the odd occasion where you could not get any quality with it inline.....if you're getting nowhere, set it on a satellite and remove it and see if the helps.
Cadsulfide
You can move the dish on a temporary basis with a car or lawnmower battery to say 99W for the networks.
M
New C bander...my kind of guy! Welcome to the hobby. Without an old analog rx or a V/G Box controller, and until you can get one, you are better off doing like Cad said and hooking the jack (actuator arm) back up (if it still works) and using a 12v car battery to drive the dish. A VERY small movement can make the difference between a solid signal and absolutely none at all. If you are not familiar with the level (sometimes, for some reason unknown to me called signal) and quality readings, essentially, the level indicates you are hooked up to a presumably functional LNB. The quality is an indication that a signal of the programmed freq/SR is present and locked. The higher this reading is, the greater the amount of unerrored (desirable) data is being recieved. For the purposes of dish alignment, it is analgeous to 'signal strength' but technically is not.
The motor is 36v so 12v gives you a very fine, slow running adjustment control. Of course being DC, reversing the polarity reverses the direction the jack operates. If you cant find one locally, flea markets, Craigslist, etc, analog C band IRDs show up on Fleabay pretty regular for a few buck over shipping, which it seems to be roughy $20 anywhere in the lower 48 for these guys. (They are a bit on the heavy side) I saw one this weekend at a garage sale for 5 bucks. Didnt get it.....got plenty of backups for the time being.
The first thing I would do is drive the dish to it's highest point, and look at the polarotor element and note it's position. It should be obvious (relative to the ground directly in front of the dish) what polarity you are restricted to searching until you can get a means of controlling polarotor position (also via an analog C band IRD) or opting out for purchasing, installing and aligning an LNBF that uses 13/18 vdc from your FTA to electronicly switch polarity. (some like this setup, but personally I dont recommend it)
The polarotor position is something you will need to control via an old C band analog rx, or if you are handy with electronics, a member designed and built a circuit that can use the 13/18 vdc shift from an FTA rx to drive the polarotor. I have not taken the time to sit down and construct one, but it looks straightfoward enough to do, and the member very generously shared his concept, design and code for the uC with the community.
The link to the thread, which links to his off site page with the details is here -
http://www.satelliteguys.us/c-band-...168889-polarotor-servo-controller-design.html
Regarding meters, I have two, and a 'toner' and have found them to be erroneous and more trouble than they are worth. On an initial setup, I drag a 13" tv, and the FTA out near the dish and go at it. ( a cooler full of ice cold Colorado Koolaid is a plus too!:eureka: :up ) The ir control is not very stable in direct sunlight, but all in all, IMHO, it is better and more versatile alignment setup than trying to use a meter. I have read that standing behind the dish when taking a reading helps shield the meter from unwanted readings, but I have never tried that.
Next you need to have in hand, a good list of the sat/freq/polarity/SR of the channels you want to (or can, in the case of a fixed polarity) receive. There are a number of DVB signals that have no FTA content but are still very useful as beacons to help align a dish. I am not familiar with your model FTA, but putting one of these known strong freq/sr combos in the 1st 'slot' on your freq table may be a helpful configuration when switching from sat config to scan config menu pages. After identifying a particular bird, you may find it useful to take a Sharpie or similar, and mark a reference point on the stationary part of the mount near the pivot point, and mark hashes on the moving part to be able to repeat locating that same sat in the future. An analog IRD and V/G box use pulse counts generated by the jack to keep up with the dish position in a normal installation.
No offense to the guys that take the effort to provide "The List" here, but Mike at this link does a very good job of keeping on top of current FTA data for C and Ku. It is arguably the most reliable, and up to date FTA list on the 'net. The C band info can be found here -
http://www.global-cm.net/MPEGlistCBandUS.html
Again, good luck and welcome to the hobby, and becomming a fellow C bander. We are a minority in a minority, but remember "C banders do it with the BIGGER ONES than everyone else!"
One word of caution. Dont attempt to drive the polarotor with a dc signal. It is not a 'conventional' DC motor. It is PWM controlled, and contains additional electronic circuitry that could be damaged by a continuous dc signal.
Keep us posted on your progress and pitfalls.

That is a misnomer. In the old days you subscribed to telephone service. That included the telephone line and one telephone. An extension cost $1 a month extra. So that $14,000 over 42 years was for the service not the leased telephone. There is no way they paid $28 a month for 42 years for a leased telephone.

I know HipKat said that they were working on conversions but we got the official news yesterday right from Dish that starting next month all DMA's will be on the western arc, and all customers will be assigned to that. That's gonna mean a lot of customers around here aren't gonna get Dish unless there are exceptions. Too many mountains and trees.

Looks like Charlie Ergen will never give up satellite TV. The reason Echostar 25 the most poweful DBS satellite ever built at 110 location already. Also Echostar 26 another super satellite on order for 119 orbital location will be ready in 15 months. he will have 110/119 for another 20 years. Dish will be the only satellte company left. The reason for rural areas and some people like satellite easy to operate and change channels in seconds.

I hope these new "most powerful" satellites will mean that DISH can provide every channel that can be sourced in HD in HD. I do not like the fact that two of my favorite channels (Start and H&I) are SD. I was also very disappointed after installation that METV has to be streamed from my internet connection. Finally, I dropped the locals upon seeing that my local CW channel is in blurry letterboxed SD when it has been HD OTA for years.

This piece gets me - the fact that Dish has removed SD channels from satellite completely in the name of "HD upgrades". I pay for satellite TV, not streaming...I don't see why they couldn't leave the SD version of the channels on Satellite then put the HD streaming version like they have for other channels.

Greenville-New Bern is $11.99 for MASN (Orioles) and Nationals
Raleigh is $11.99 for MASN and Nationals
Charlotte is $12.99 for BravesVision, MASN, Nationals and Reds

The fee in NC also includes the higher in state rate they have to pay for ACCN. Down in SC the fee is $15.99 as they are also a SEC state.
I'm not sure if they're doing it with those teams, but in some markets they also use the fee to cover the additional cost they have to pay for independents and MyNet stations that picked up full season NHL and NBA rights.

If you go to the TVPromise site, you'll likely be able to get a credit for not getting the Hurricanes and additional Hornets games that air on WITN-D2

Figure DTV that always says is the leader in sports would have come to an agreement by now.
Part of the hold out might be the packaging and price for outer areas like how the Thunder needs sports pack for other states. Hopefully they are also pushing for a guarantee from the teams that they would require whoever wins their local broadcasting rights in 2028 to negotiate with MVPDs. Commercial distribution rights are probably a factor too.

I'm guessing they got a deep discount for the Clippers based on how long it took them to officially announce ClipperVision and their KTLA simulcasts after they were basically handed a multi-year draft death penalty.

The Predators and Pistons channels are using feeds supplied by Scripps Sports

The Heat likely depends on whoever they sign for the Fort Myers DMA, as there's no point in paying a high price for the Heat just for that DMA when WPLG is streaming it for free on their app and website for viewers in the Miami DMA, and they already carry the West Palm Beach station.

One thing these five teams have in common is that they all signed exclusive local streaming rights deals with DAZN, replacing their traditional regional sports networks.

I know the Spurs will have 22 games available OTA on KMYS-TV CW35 in the San Antonio market, but they'll still be available on DAZN as well. The CW35 broadcasts are an additional option, not an exclusive arrangement.

With channel 680 now available, we should be able to get all the Spurs home feeds on NBALP again! (as well as the other teams above of course)

When i was a kid, i used to salivate envisioning me having a Cband dish. It wasn't until about 1995, I installed my first Cband dish, and i remember it took me about 2 weeks to get that dish aligned properly.. This was before internet, and i had to call and talk with people on the phone about advice on how to properly tune the dish. I can't remember the receiver, but it had a UHF remote. I had the satellite receiver in the living room, but i ported it to two TV's, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. It was so nice being able to control the receiver with the remote in the bedroom about 40 feet from the living room. I remember watching Rosanne feeds where it would air the entire week in succession. Nice nostalgia.

Well, the bag can't weigh that much, right? But by law food product packaging must display the actual net weight of the product, i.e., the contents of the container, so by any logic, if not law, a store's stated per-ounce cost should reflect that figure. But since there's not any law regulating shelf statements, a store can say whatever it wants without violating any rules. So I guess the answer is more consumer legislation. Or simply caveat emptor.

Unless the specific product or its packaging is known at the time of weighing, estimating the tare weight for a PoS system is a tall order.

I'm pretty sure that produce bags can't get any thinner. ;)

You certainly don't want to put unbagged produce on a belt, scale, or in a clerk's hands (gloved or not).

I can't BELIEVE this is being such a difficult subject. The issue isn't the price....it's the advertised price per ounce. A lot of shoppers, myself included, use the price per ounce in determining which is the better value....with that number being inaccurate, it can trick someone into thinking that one product cost less per ounce than a competing product. Is this a crime?...above my pay grade. Is it dishonest? Yes.

A pound of Coffee, does that include the package it's in ?

No, a pound of coffee refers strictly to the net weight of the coffee itself (16 ounces), not including the weight of the bag or packaging. [1, 2]
  • Net Weight: Food and coffee sold by weight are required by law to list the net weight on the label, which measures only the contents inside the package. [1, 2]
    • Packaging Weight: The foil bag, valve, and label add extra weight to the total item when you hold it, meaning the gross weight on a scale will be slightly more than 16 ounces.
    • Watch Out for Bag Sizes: Always check the label carefully, as many specialty roasters now sell 12-ounce (three-quarter pound) bags while keeping the price or visual impression similar to a full pound. [1, 2, 3]
meStevo
The larger discrepancies are likely from a data or sync issue. Digital tags don't cause the error, but they can spread one bad entry across a whole store or region instantly. The small cent differences are probably just rounding in the weight, the price data, or both.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Which is what is interesting, I see the 4KFox channel on 148-01 but we're not subscribed to our Locals. So why it's coming in is puzzling. I thought that maybe it was a perk for Dish subscribers for the MLB Postseason.

I set a Timer for the Indiana - Ohio State game on Saturday. I'll take advantage of it while I can.

Even though it didn't work out for the Hoosiers, this event recorded and I was able to watch it in full 4K HDR.👍🏻
MLB, Rays at Brewers, Friday 10-23, 5PM PDT, Channel 148-01.
Timer is set to Record the Series. Thanks, Bobby!

I haven't posted in almost 17 years. Over the air, sat, offline, anything-but-the-internet is still one of my avid pursuits. Been playing with offline tv viewing and offline web browsing. I have great appreciations for this site still being here. It's so hard to find public communities that haven't sold out to social media company.

Got to admit, I had to look up "offline web browsing". I had never heard of it.

Welcome back, as you can see we branched off into a bunch of things since Satellite is what it is now, so lots to talk about here. :)

From what I understand, it's just saving a article or whatever, to Save it so you can read it later ....
Unless he's talking something entirely different ... the way I am looking at it, you Still need the Internet to load it originally.

In order to participate in any Cutting Edge testing, you must sign a Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA). Attached are a .docx (Microsoft Word) and PDF version of the latest DirecTV NDA. I found it easiest to complete the .docx version then paste a photo or scan image of my signature, cropped closely to just the signature into it as a picture. Then set Word to wrap text around the picture so that the picture follows the text "Signature".

People who have better PDF tools than I do may prefer that version.

When you apply for any Cutting Edge testing, you will be told how to send the signed copy.

Any NDA you have signed before is still valid for the testing you have been and hopefull still are doing. The new NDA forms are ror new CE testers and new categories of CE testing. They have been placed here so that people who volunteer for any CE testing have access to them.
