Isolate her. It's probably terrible to say but it works. Our cat (Boomer) was a handful when we got him a year ago. We'd come home to some kind of mess (thinking he had the litter box training learned) or some kind of broken furniture. Sleeping would have been a miracle because he cried often and LOUDLY. Around that same time, we were closing in our garage (which had been open with only a roof) which may have contributed to the behavior somewhat. We finally decided to buy a playpen for animals and just put him in there with the litter box through the day while at work (which was in the garage) and would let him in the home when we could observe him at night but would put him back in at bedtime. He really had no choice (being in there for close to nine hours during the day and another eight or nine at night) than to use the litter box. My wife and I would discuss on the way to work what awful parents we were for leaving him in there during the morning commute and even considered just making him an outdoor cat. The stories we would hear on the news of animal abuse or just seeing an animal on the side of the road that had been run over changed that notion. After about six - eight weeks, we became pretty comfortable with his litter box training and would leave him in the house until the point that he went to the kitchen door - to use the litter box still in the playpen. :) It's funny now but if we have company, he'll run straight for the kitchen door and huddle inside the pen. And the one thing that really helped with was leaving the mess (any litter that comes out of the box) in the garage - I blow the garage out every day. Right now, he takes advantage of all the time he can in the house (even sleeping inside through the night until waking us up - usually around 5:00 to go out to the litter box, food, and water). Last winter, we barely ever seen him. The garage was pretty comfortable (it was really kind of cool but not cold) through the fall and winter and he'd usually be wanting in the garage at about 9 or 10 o'clock and we'd go out the next morning and close the top.

As for the meowing - he was really kind of needy as well. It seemed to be constant at times. We finally wound up adopting another one (the advice of the vet on the playpen worked wonders so we figured we'd try the advice of a new friend) and they are pretty close and neither are needy. We didn't even realize how much room they had in the playpen until we adopted Sam and saw what a small cage he had lived in. He too has wound up treating the pen as some type of base. The playpen costed us about $100 but it did the job of containing him until he got the litter box training down. For the most part, we still leave them in there through the day. As I already said, it's also nice having him used to going in the pen for and it keeps the litter out of the house. Good luck! Regardless of what you do, just remember to keep a routine (don't change training ideas after only a day or two) and have patience. The only thing that might help all the meowing is another cat. I'll always believe it's easier to have two cats than one.

By playpen, this is what I'm referring to:

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Precision-Pet-Soft-Side-Large/dp/B001GS71KW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1246281308&sr=8-1"]Amazon.com: Precision Pet Soft Side Play Pen, Navy/Tan: Home & Garden@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41DgV7COm2L.@@AMEPARAM@@41DgV7COm2L[/ame]

They also have the wire pens, though:

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Midwest-130-00-Cat-Playpen/dp/B000I1M76Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1246281382&sr=1-1"]Amazon.com: Midwest Homes for Pets 35.75 inches long by 23.5 inches wide by 51?@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61Xnf9kCf1L.@@AMEPARAM@@61Xnf9kCf1L[/ame]

If you aren't home with her all day, this might be your best bet for litter box training. Good luck!

Get a tall cardboard box and place the cat pan and him/her inside. When the kitten starts to go ( you'll need to have the box close to you so you can listen and keep an eye on it or have your wife/gf/bff/kid help you out ) pick the kitten up and put it in the litter box and let it finish, when its done turn it around so it see's what it did then cover its little gift to you and give it a treat. Repeat this a couple times and then watch to see if he goes and does it on his own and continue to reward with a treat if you like or a congratulatory head scratch and back rub.

For litter choice theres two I can recommend, one is call Fresh Results and so far I have only found it at Walmart. The other is Armen Hammer pine litter, both are actually the same thing but the former is cheaper but whats nice about this litter is that its pine granules that helps with better odor control than clay litter plus its dust free and when it gets wet it doesn't turn into mud and its easy on their paws. For a single cat the bag will last you a month easily or possibly even 6 weeks as long as you follow recommended feeding.

Those soft play pens are great. I did part of my internship at a shelter and they kept the kittens and full grown cats in those for exercise. They would often grow attached to them. It's actually an excellent idea to keep one in their for training plus with the right amount of patience it keeps the litter in the garage. Good call!

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Lately my eight year old Dell laptop has been shutting off even when I have a full battery. I have had to keep it plugged up all the time to keep this from happening. Any idea what is causing this? I replaced the battery about three years ago.

A recalibration might be needed. Even if it shows full, the individual cells may have become unbalaced. And the BMS chip in the battery reports false information to the pc.
Try this. Start it up in the bios/uefi and leave it there until the battery dies and it shuts off.
It might just keep running longer than in Windows. Or run for a short while and shut off.
If it's the first case. Probably just needs a balancing. If the latter, the pack might just be dead.
Not throwing stones but perhaps just a cheaply constructed battery with substandard cells. Could be.

Patience. Keep restarting it in bios/uefi until it won't fire up anymore.
Then plug the charger in and let it complete a full charge. And see what happens. If it's better.
Do the same thing one more time. Run it until it dies dead-dead. Then just let it charge, pc shut off.
When charged, it might be better. It might not be.

There are bench jigs that read the actual BMS and override it to let a tech manually monitor and charge the separate packs. They can also reset any "time bombs" in it that cause an otherwise good pack to show bad.
Maybe Santa will be good to me some year.

You might just need a new battery. Maybe the PC power management chip is going. A Dell common thing.
Leaving a laptop plugged in with a full battery is known to reduce the life. Asus for one recommends that you don't leave the charger plugged in all of the time even when shut down. And setting Windows to charge the battery to 85% instead of 100% increases life.
That's all I got.

I set up a music server for my brother a few years ago. It's basically a small headless computer but it needs to have a DHCP IP address reserved for it in the router settings. This was easy to do in his DSL router. He's switching to Starlink now and I was wondering if these setting are easily accessible in the Starlink router. I'm pretty sure he will be getting the latest V5 router.

If you can't get into the router to reserve an IP address just don't use DHCP on the device that needs connected and assign it to a specific IP address in the network settings.

They are not. Your best bet is to set up a third-party router, attached to the Starlink for your server, that you can get into, like a Linksys, etc

The Starlink V5 Install Kit I just got comes with the Mini Router. It is pretty limited in what it can do. For example, it can provide only one IP subnet at a time, no Guest Network, but it does support the pass-thru to a third-party Router. You can also split the Wi-Fi into separate 5 GHz & 2.4 GHz SSIDs to help some IoT devices that don't support 5 GHz bands to work.

The larger Starlink Router that still comes with the V4 Kit does support a Guest Network with separate IPv4 Subnet, but it's $120 from Starlink. And it still won't do DHCP Reservations.

If you can restrict the DHCP address space to assign addresses to one end of the subnet (i.e. x.x.x.50+), you can manually assign the IP address on pretty much any operating system. This is a default behavior on several popular routers. As the Router Mini only supports 235 devices, I expect that's already done.

Another option is to use a router that supports PoE to power the antenna. This article discusses that option (under PoE Power heading):

Now that I've had the v5 kit with the Mini Router, it's not as bad as I first thought. Yes, no DHCP reservations, but you can set up multiple SSIDs that have separate IPv4 subnets, and like the big brother, you can select from 192.168.x.0/24 or 10.x.0.0/16 (where "x" is 1-4).

You can also split a subnet and have different SSIDs for the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz channels to handle some IoT devices. I haven't discovered what subnet the 2nd NIC on the router assigns, I'm guessing it's the first subnet.

Terrible tragedy. You would think that they would have safe guards in place that would prevent something like this from happening. I guess if you are going to ride in a passenger train it might be best to get a car near the rear.

They will have to look at the switching sections to determine WHY 2 trains were on the same track ... at the same time.
