Hmm.. I just noticed this.

My cell phone is set up in a way where if I call a "land line", the name of the person also shows up with the number. I have a ViP722 hooked to a phone line but for some reason the name does not show up anymore. Instead the screen on the TV shows "New York Call" and it still also shows the number. I know the name used to come up on the screen.

I was ready to call my cell provider and ask about this as I thought I (actually we as the whole family had this) but I thought I'd try one more thing. Using my cell phone, I called the house phone one more time and see what the house telephone display was saying. The name was there!

So now the phone sees everything available about the caller but the Dish ViP722 no longer does. It only shows the number in this case and what I said above. The receiver still does show the names when a caller using a land line calls.

I am thinking this feature was lost in some software update? As far as I am concerned, it seems more like a software downgrade.

Anyone else notice this? I liked this feature.

^^ What he said... if my home phone has a # stored in it w/ a name, it shows it, but my 622 only shows "wireless caller" & the #... now... that's for Verizon... ATT cell calls show the name & # both...

my 722 still shows the names.

Of all wireless callers? As I stated earlier, there is no problem when a lind line caller calls.

Its your (Land) phone carrier and the database they are using the pull the Caller ID name data from the master database

Why would I have this feature earlier and not anymore? I think it's the Dish receiver software version.

Do you happen to have a cordless phone at home with a directory? Just like your cell phone, the name in the cordless phone's directory will show up when it recognizes the number.

Yes and yes for some time now. But the Dish receiver is not plugged in through the telephone itself so I don't see why this would affect the receiver. I have telephone service through TWC so the telephone line is plugged into a router. Then the signal gets split where one line goes to the receiver and the other to the telephone.

I called Dish tech support and the technician did not know what to tell me. He, like myself said it should still work if it worked before and that I may be right about the receiver software. He then filed a report all about it.

Yes, except for one friend of mine's cell ( i will have to see what cell co he uses)
but all other cell phones and land line names come up.

It depends on a combination of the wireless carrier and the CNAM directory (more specifically, the Line Database LiDB) that your phone provider uses.

Based on it displaying "New York Call" I would actually give it a < 1% chance of it being a Dish receiver issue. I have a 722 and I just ran a few tests of sending in a call from my asterisk box just pushing number information to my Linksys ATA and leaving the name field blank. The 722 simply displays the number -- it doesn't appear to have an internal DB to relate which area codes are linked to which geographical areas to be able to populate any kind of name information.

It wouldn't affect your receiver, it will affect how the name shows up on your home phone. Look at how your cell phone works -- you only get number data sent in from the carriers, it's not until you have a name in the phone's internal directory that you will start to see name information presented.

You want to run the same test? Delete your cell phone number out of your cordless phone's directory and call your home number again. I bet it won't have the name data.

To understand why this would change you have to understand how CallerID works. When a call is sent into a phone company, only the number information is attached to the call. To be able to deliver number & name information to customers, the telephone company needs to look up the name in a Line Database so that it can deliver both CLID (number) and CNAM (name) information when it rings your phone. This started off as being one big database that all phone companies used, but over the last few years it has spread to at least a dozen different databases with varying degrees of accuracy of the information. VoIP providers like Vonage use a version of the directory that has significantly lower use cost, but isn't updated as frequently. To compensate for the lack of regular updates, the directory managers will often remove high-churn numbers from the directory (ie cell phones) and replace them with generic location reference IDs. Depending on volume, queries against an actual Verizon / LEC LiDB can run as high as 5 cents per call, whereas the annual published directory data can be had for as little as 0.005 cents per call. (1000x less expensive) That reduction in price is a compelling reason for many non-LEC phone companies (ie, Vonage, TWC, Comcast, Cox, etc) to change to the less complete directory.

This has been a long time issue, that I have be noticing for a long time with many devices such as telco receiving devices, DVR's, my VoIP phone service, stand alone CallerID units, and that it's the phone company not handing off cellular info as they should unless that caller has service with that telco if they have cell service. I get complete CID from any Qwest Cellular phone, because Qwest is also our big Telco here. All other cell calls come in either: city, state; unavailable; nothing; just the phone number or Out of Area. But the complete CID does squeek through every so often. We use the CID on all our boxes instead of the phones themselves. It's become a way of life.

I have had this conversation with my VoIP company that did not realize it. They checked into what I was saying and got confirmation from there baby bell. They say with their connection contract with the telco that this is not suppose to happen and will be watching closely. Sorry, that won't do any good. That's how I lost my 10Mbps SDSL and 4 digital phone lines ($125 p/m) with SprintION, 1998-2002, because Qwest, the baby bell, would not grant right of way dictated by law. It was easier for Sprint to kill the service than fight for their legal right. He who has the most money and biggest lawyers does as they please. There is a thread in this forum accusing DISH of this very attitude.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

I'm getting fabulous picture on Ch. 148 4k, but zero audio with H713. This is with a recorded show (Notre Dame game). Anyone else have this? Audio is fine on every other channel.

It's a known issue.
For a temporary fix, go into the menu, Audio, and turn Dolby Audio "OFF". You will have PCM stereo audio.

I was able to give the tech ops team some data logs so they could diagnose the problem, and they rolled me back to H708 temporarily. It fixed that issue.

They let me know that they understand what caused the issue, and it will be fixed within a few weeks in a new update.

I guess they will be busy when lots of people start asking for rollbacks to H708 now that you mention that downgrades of software does exist because it will likely fix the OTA Single Tuner and the IR Remote problems in H710-H713.

So after some heavy research, it looks like the issue I mentioned with the DISH 50.0/52.0/54.x remotes where on the 50.0/52.0 remotes, the dedicated TV Power button or on the 54.x remotes where it is using the TV button on the side followed by Power works correctly on a Hopper 3 which runs Linux but not on a Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus, Joey 4 and Wireless Joey 4 which are Android TV (ATV) has to do with the Android TV software itself. In all instances, the remotes had always sent out a dual RF and Infrared signal when the TV Power signal is sent from the remote. The Hopper 3 without the Plus would ignore the incoming RF power packet signal which is identified as a TV-specific toggle event, and does not trigger a system-wide standby state. The Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus, Joey 4 and Wireless Joey 4 as Android TV devices initially worked the same way as well up to sometime in 2025 as there was the legacy pass-through mode in the original software versions used since the Hopper Plus/Joey 4/Wireless Joey 4 launch, the receiver's underlying software essentially ignored the secondary RF payload that the 50.0/52.0/54.x remotes blasted out whenever the TV Power signal was sent. The Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus, Joey 4 and Wireless Joey 4 recognized it was a TV-specific command and discarded the RF packet, letting the standalone IR signal do its job on the tv.

When the software for the Hopper Plus, Joey 4 and Wireless Joey 4 were updated in 2025 and newer versions of the software for those Android TV (ATV) devices, it overhauled how the receiver handles remote commands to tighter integrate the Android TV environment which resulted in the software starting to treat any RF power toggle payload as a global command. As the newer software verion(s) no longer filters out the concurrent RF blast from the 50.0/52.0/54.0 remotes, the moment one sends a TV Power signal from the remote, the Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus, Joey 4 and Wireless Joey 4 catches that unintended RF payloadand interpets it as a command to drop the system into standby.

The fix is really simple since the Android TV (ATV) software for the Hopper Plus, Joey 4 and Wireless Joey 4 just needs to be programmed to drop or ignore the specific RF power packets associated with the TV Power signal sequence.

The problem could also be at the remotes firmware as the remote's firmware has an engineering defect. When you try to turn off the TV, the remote's internal code mistakenly triggers its RF transmitter alongside its IR transmitter. It should only be firing the IR light blast. Because it forces a simultaneous broadcast, the remote's firmware is the original source of the problem.

The Hopper Plus, Joey 4 and Wireless Joey firmware has a filtering defect. Good software design dictating peripheral inputs should include "error handling"—rules that tell the system what to do with messy or unintended commands.
• The legacy Hopper 3 firmware has proper error handling; it sees the remote's rogue RF packet and safely ignores it.
• The Android TV firmware in the Hopper Plu, Joey 4 and Wireless lacks this filtering logic. It blindly accepts the rogue RF packet and misinterprets it as a legitimate signal to force the entire system into standby.

If the remote didn't have a firmware bug, it wouldn't send the phantom RF signal. If the Android TV (ATV) device being the Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus, Joey 4 and Wireless Joey 4 didn't have a firmware bug, it would cleanly ignore the signal just like the Hopper 3 does.

That's a lot of information to ingest. However, I don't have the Hopper Plus and my 54 remote is doing crazy things to the Hopper 3. Several times each evening when I press the skip forward button several times to advance through a commercial, it switches the receiver either onto live TV or into suspension. Other buttons will also cause this randomly, I haven't established any patterns I can describe. I use "recall" to go back to my recorded program in progress.

Needless to say, something in the newer Hopper 3 softwares has caused the remote functioning to ......................malfunction. Evidently, it applies to third party remotes as well as DISH's own remotes.

This is exactly the same issue I was having as I had the Hopper 3 and 54 remote without the Hopper Plus and the symptoms were virtually identical to yours.

It's only available for streaming customers, they still haven't added that batch of CW stations to satellite.

Even if it was, satellite customers still can't stream their CW affiliates via the app, just the Big 4, select PBS stations and some independents (mainly the ones that have full season NHL/NBA rights)

I have read that some have converted this type dish but after giving it a good look, it's the lnb conversion that is the bottleneck. Does anyone have a picture of their attempt to configure the lnb? I watched a video on youtube from the save it for parts guy and he used duct tape! Guess it worked but I'm thinking something a bit more permanent!
Thanks to all for your interest and replies...

Many of us have used a universal LNBF mount (or get creative with L brackets and plumbers tape - perforated metal strapping). Use a few inches of aluminum tube (or a piece of 1x2" lumber) to extend the support arm (replacing the plastic mount used by DirecTV and Dish) to place the LNBF throat opening at the correct distance from the reflector, the correct height and at the correct angle. Nothing magical... simply place the new linear LNBF in the center at the same distance, height and angle as the current combo.

To add: 101W Ku seems to be (one of if not the) strongest for me, and if I only had Ku I definitely want 101W for the music mux, it's robust FEC and strong signal help a lot. I've thought about using a used Dish/DirectTV dish at my Dads to supplement his OTA (mainly for my benefit when I visit :) )

I used a 60cm Shaw Satellie dish (60e) with its original dual-LNB. It worked fine for 101W/97W or 99W/103W at that time when weather was fine. But the fade margin was small so rainy weather killed reception or almost so. But it was all free since they're so plentiful so I couldn't complain.

A Shaw dish with the linear LNBFs are as rare as hens teeth in the US... :)
