I have had Dish Net for sometime and have never had the desire to watch any pay per view. This month I received my bill and was charged for about $60 worth of movies and latin boxing. I did not order any of this.

I had an idea how this might have happened. We have new neighbors and I noted a dish just like ours on their balcony. For a few days early in the month our TV seemed like it was possessed by the devil. In other words channels would change on one of the TV's (closest to our neighbor--the other side of the wall) and channels would turn up I never watch or been able to get. It seemed to me pretty quickly that the problem was interference from another remote control suing the same frequency. So, I called Dish CS and asked how to change this. They helped and the problem was solved, I thought.

At the end of the month I received the bill mentioned above. I again called Dish CS and had them look at my bill and then I explained what I thought had happened. He could also see where I had called in about the remote issue. I think that was right after a bunch of these PPV's were charged.

The CS rep acknowledged that interference from another remote could have been an issue, but said the policy was there were no refunds on PPV. He said he would talk to his supervisor. While waiting I predicted in my mind that they might take off the movies but not budge on the big ticket Latin boxing. I was right. They would not budge on that item. I suggested that I am paying for something that someone else watched. He said something to the effect that if it showed up on their screen they were charged. What does that suggest?

I went around on this for a while. Not getting anywhere I even said that they would probably loss a customer over this. The CS rep said he could transfer me to that number.

That is a pretty long story. Does anyone have experience, ideas or tactics I can use to get this charge taken off my bill? They seem to acknowledge that this is a problem with technology, but tough.

Also, just as an FYI, their policy on PPV disputes is to set the credit limit to $0 on your account so that your receiver will tell you no even if you are connected to a phone when you order and to require you set a parental pin on each TUNER in your home. Further PPV orders after that are strictly non-refundable. So, if you choose not to lock your receiver, at that point you will have gone against DISH's instructions and be responsible for any further such charges.

Called them again and querried them about the purchase history. They had no good answer, but did take off all PPV including the boxing "as a one time gesture." Just as indicated above they lowered my credit limit to $0. But, that is not an issue to me as I never order PPV. If I ever really want to I guess I can pick up the phone and call.

The thing that still amazes me is that none of the 3 CSR reps ever mentioned to me that I could "lock" the system with a password. I only learned that on this forum. Indeed, I mentioned this to the last CSR and he acknowledged that I could do that, but did not seem to keen on the idea.

You know this is not like I am taking money from them. It is something I never ordered or received. It is not like it is a tangible (like a hotel room) and could have sold to someone else. Yes, a lot of people can complain and say they never ordered something. But, giving customers a one time break is reasonable and perhaps they should be willing to bend a bit quicker.

Anyway, this issue is resolved.

This is why the very first thing I do is change the remote address from 1 to just about any other number. I use mostly the extended addresses so that most home systems have virtually no chance of accessing mine.

It is my opinion that if a CSR tells a customer how they can avoid buying PPV's, it would be in management's opinion "not a very good idea"

In fact, Dish has all this info about changing Remote Access and locking your system on the channel 101 Welcome to Dish, and I think this could constitute "a method of informing customers" in a court of law, not to mention same such info on some bills and website.

Fire 'em

Not doubt the information is all there if you look for it. But, most people do not really spend a lot of time going through all those little programs on channel 101 unless something stops working or they have a problem. Most people are just interested in turning on the TV and flip through the channels.

I am not real concerned about a court of law. In this case I would not bother to go to court over a $50 or $60 charge. Perhaps some would. What I may do is "fire" Dish Network as my broadcast provider. I have no commitment with them and could drop them like a bad habit and chose another. There are lots of other options, even free. This site is evidence of the many options out there.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

I know HipKat said that they were working on conversions but we got the official news yesterday right from Dish that starting next month all DMA's will be on the western arc, and all customers will be assigned to that. That's gonna mean a lot of customers around here aren't gonna get Dish unless there are exceptions. Too many mountains and trees.

Even if you are broadcasting old SD-only shows, I would think advertisers would still want their commercials to look good.

Advertisers on SD channels are probably Far and Few, very hard to find, they have very few viewers to watch them.

I watch mostly SD channels (H&I, Start and ION, etc.). There are plenty of advertisers, this time of the year it is mostly Medicare Advantage plans, auto extended warranties and the occasional walk-in-tub. They know who is watching.

Why didn't Charlie end up launching starlink
Because he didn't have a fleet of reusable rockets. Starlink works because SpaceX is able to launch hundreds (thousands?) of their Starlink satellites for what a single geostationary Internet satellite costs to build and launch on a disposable launcher.

But how is it reusable if it's disposable

He does not have the resources aka $$$ compared to Elon Musk as in reality, Elon can eat Charlie for lunch or even mop the floor with Charlie if he wanted to.

Also watched part 2 about a week or so ago after rewatching part 1. It's not as faithful to the book as I was hoping for. Part 1 stayed fairly faithful to the novel, but part 2 took some liberties that I felt were rather excessively non-novel. It looks like a prequel series will happen before part 3. My issue is: there's no prequel that was written as a novel, so what will it be pulled from? Or will it just be "based loosely" on the novel?

There is a bunch of other Dune written by Kevin J Anderson and Brian Herbert (Franks son). I think the series in production is taken from one of their books about the Bene Gesserit.

Correct. I've read all of them (yes, it took awhile, better part of a year, in my spare time). And they can't really consider or classify a series about the Bene Gesserit as a prequel. Sure, I suppose they can call it that, if they want to, because it begins before the time of Paul Atredies, but it's still a stretch. It's a Dune-related novel, not a prequel as we generally think of prequels...
long_time_Dish
Well, it looks good! I just hope they stayed close to the trilogy, but it doesn't look like it.

It's probably been 2 decades since I've listened to an AM radio station. Very rarely listen to FM any more.

I am 1 that wants the AM to Stay ....
That said, since '08 I have had Sat radio available to me ... I think I have turned on AM 3 or 4 times, just to see if its still there.

Fwiw, if theres a Major disaster or bad weather or whatever, the chances of me finding out about it by going to the AM side of the radio is SLIM and None.
Even FM, I haven't really had on since '13ish, I may turn it on from time to time, just to see if its still there.

Automation has seen to that. You can't get evening drive traffic reports where I live, much less disaster reports.

That goes for a lot of people. I've been advertising on radio for more than a decade now and am very familiar with this subject. While it is still a valuable tool, it has far less impact than it did just a few years ago. The best reaction I get is from a local Country music station....they play a mix of older and newer music and have a very big footprint.

Do you do any Ad's on Satellite ?

If Not, why not, because it's not Local ?

No, just regular FM stations. One is the country station I mentioned and the other is a Talk Radio station which used to get fantastic results but honestly, since the death of Rush Limbaugh, talk radio just doesn't do as well. There were two guys who had an early morning show which was hugely popular here in the southeast but one of them retired a couple years ago and the show just doesn't garner the same numbers as it used to.

IFixIt has published their Teardown and they had some positive things to say about the iPhone Duo. It still showed some dust ingress into the hinge assembly but seemed otherwise well-sealed.

But with a considerable number of reports of the main screen dying with similar failures, AppleCare+ should be a no-brainer for this phone.

Gone are the days when Apple "perfects" what debuted years earlier on an Android phone.
