This is super annoying. D* Installed this past spring, April. Never had any signal loss up until a few weeks ago, where it went out all day & night. I got up on our roof, just pushed the dish around a bit (didn't mess with alignment). Just thought it was maybe off a hair, IDK.
But doing this worked, and we had signal back for a couple days.

Every since then, we've gradually been having an issue where we lose signal during the day, especially when its sunny (maybe that is coincidence), though this past week we have pretty much lost signal during the day every day at some point.
Sometimes only for a half hour, sometimes out for a few hours. Then come nightfall or late day, signal is usually OK.

Is there anything I can do? As I said, dish alignment has never been changed, so I hate to mess with that.
I was thinking that maybe the dish wasn't aligned very well by D* back in april. Maybe good enough to get a signal, but not aligned well enough to be able to handle even the slightest change. In other words, they didn't give the dish enough "leeway".
We had E* for nearly 18 months, never had such an issue, and E*'s dish was installed in the exact same place as D*'s.

Btw, all channels are out when signal loss (including locals). I checked all connections, on the dish & to the back of reciever, they are tight. I wiped off the lens of the LNB, the dish itself is clean. Not sure what else to do, and this is just getting worse.

Also had a weekend of football planned, which may not happen now. And I know D* will take a few days to get here to fix things, but even then...this issue is NOT our fault, so unless they come & fix this for free, I will be trying to do it myself. I have zero $$ to pay somebody for something I can probably do.

Does my signal being out mostly during the day tell you guys anything? Also, this might be a longshot, but the dish is isntalled on our roof, over shingles. We only had D* since the weather has been warmer (april). So the 1 thing that does go along with the signal loss lately is that we've had a lot of real cold nights lately.
I can't help but wonder if the roof shingles are expanding during the day (in the sun), then the opposite at night, where they shrink in the cold. I doubt the temp changes could raise/lower the dish much more than a hair, but what I'm noticing is that it being off just a hair, literally, can make a difference. It seems.

i dunno, but it sounds like a bad LNB going out or switch.

1/16 of an inch off is 1,400 miles off the satellite.

Yup,

That would be next...tap the LNB and if that brings back the signal replace it.

Shake all cables and see if that brings back the signal...look for an uncompressed fitting.

Joe

ive often too many times come across SVC where the fittins are loose. espeically on a SL dish set up. just a nick from being tight can give you pixel freeze or SFSS..

day its warm, the cable relaxes and thins out from warm air.. nights it tightens up due to cooler air and can cause the fitting to tighten back on.

wind can do this too, shaking of cables from wind can unwind the fittings.

first off, make sure all cable fittings are on tight regardless where they are, barreled or at the dish.

your reciever fitting should be hand tight, not wrench tight on the reciever.

dish and at the switch should be tight with a wrench as well if theres any barrels in the house. if theres barrels outside between the switch to the reciever, check them and make sure the conductor and cable is WHITE inside the fittings. if its black or blue.. its bad. same as from dish to switch as well.

I did get the signal back. Which also isn't unusual. I get the latter, go up & just start messing with everything I see. Might just push up on the dish a bit. Tighten some bolts, maybe that won't work, so might double/triple check connectors, tighten those. Might wiggle the wires around, maybe wipe off the LNB white plastic piece.

And I'm always able to get the signal back in, but of course its a pain in the ass to bring the latter out every day & do all that. And for all I know the signal may go out again in a half hour.

So what am I doing that gets the signal back? IDK. I can't pinpoint any 1 thing that immediately brings the signal back.
I did notice that the front mount bar wasn't tight, had some wiggle in it, so I loosened it, pushed the dish up while re-tightening. This doesn't work every time though.

But here are a couple notes, what I think the problem is. The mount. The dish, mounted on roof, is NOT bolted into any wood or anything solid. No, it was attached to the shingles! So if you push up on the assy, you can see the shingles lift a bit from the roof!
Is this normal for a roof install? I mean, the dish probably isn't gonna fall off or anything, but still.
I also notice b/c of this that when I went to tighten all bolts mounting dish to the roof, none of them tighten, they just keep turning.
I'm wonder if over the past months that gradually the pull on the shingles has lowered how high the dish points.
As mentioned, if the dish is only off a hair, thats all it takes.

Today, the interesting thing that seemed to bring the signal back was the exposed cable end.
Yeah, there are 2 cables that go to the LNB, but only 1 was hooked up. The other cable end is just tied to the main pole, completely exposed to the elements. And we only have 1 cable attached to our main reciever, which in turn distributes the signal to our other 2 recievers that all used to be connected back when he had cable.
IDK if this is a normal install. But anyhow, I took the exposed cable end tied to the dish, moved it away from the sun, then put some electrical tape over it. Then our signal came back in...for now!
I haven't even checked to see where the other end of that cable ends up, I'll probably do that shortly, but I can't imagine its connected to anything since the other end isn't either.

The extra cable is a jumper to allow tuning without having to disassemble the dish to connect or remove the meter; an unnecessary feature.

The dish needs to be reinstalled so that the lag bolts hit roof studs. There should be at least one monopole brace to aid in holding the mast in a rigid position.

Your roof will need some attention. It probably has leaked. Caulk the old holes and start over. If there is a way of mounting the dish so it is not over a living space that should be done.

Once the dish & mast are properly installed repoint the dish.

There is a good chance the installer crunched the pin on the jumper and when it moves it shorts your system; just a guess.

For some reason, the satelliteguys.us site is loading a lot slower than usual on both Chrome on my Asus laptop and Safari on my iPhone.
I'm also seeing longer appearances of the blue bar at the top and the "3 blue bars" loading symbol.
Is anyone else also having the same problem? Thanks in advance.

PHP and a heapin' helpin' of JavaScript.

As dated as it is, PHP is eminently adept at projects like a forum. With modules, it is competitive in flexibility and computational efficiency with tools like Node.js or Ruby (where you must choose from many outboard tools).

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

When walmart set a price...they weigh the container and the product...the product label only shows the weight of the product...I am sure if you brought your own plastic baggies to bring the product home you could get the cheaper price

Well, the bag can't weigh that much, right? But by law food product packaging must display the actual net weight of the product, i.e., the contents of the container, so by any logic, if not law, a store's stated per-ounce cost should reflect that figure. But since there's not any law regulating shelf statements, a store can say whatever it wants without violating any rules. So I guess the answer is more consumer legislation. Or simply caveat emptor.

Well, according to the price per ounce on that first bag of coffee he mentions, that would mean the bag weighed over 6 ounces. That bag does NOT weigh 6 ounces. According to Google, an empty bag weighs half an ounce.

You need to weigh the actual bag...a deli bag weighs less than that but a thick coffee bag is gonna weigh around an ounce...an empty tin can has some weight

Unless the specific product or its packaging is known at the time of weighing, estimating the tare weight for a PoS system is a tall order.

I'm pretty sure that produce bags can't get any thinner. ;)

You certainly don't want to put unbagged produce on a belt, scale, or in a clerk's hands (gloved or not).

I would think that all the packaging would already be accounted for ... they weigh the container, subtract that from the scale, then add the product , so its weighing the Product only

Obviously you didn't read my post.....google says a coffee bag weighs half an ounce. But let's say you are correct and it DOES weigh a full ounce, that would still fall 5 ounces shy for Walmart's numbers to match.
You wouldn't happen to be kin to Bernie would you

It appears we are not getting both home & away feeds out of market on League Pass for these teams either…

I've been watching the Spurs home feed on channel 676-1 (was part time San Antonio specific feed) out of market with NBALP for YEARS on satellite (through the multiple iterations of Fox Sports SW, Bally Sports SW, FanDuel Sports SW) Looks like that will not happen unless a deal is reached with DAZN. I do see the placeholder channel on 680 if it happens.

Center Ice does have the non-carried feeds, including the Hurricanes, Wild, Blues and Blue Jackets and spotbeam local only teams like the Panthers, Mammoth and Golden Knights. So it probably depends on the available part time bandwidth each night as things they are able to provide to in market viewers in the 600s, PPV Events in the 100s and commercial events in the 9000s get priority first, along with games where neither team has a remappable feed.
coolman302003
League Pass tonight for example (it is almost a full slate tonight):
Hawks @ Magic (only Hawks feed which is easy to insert since its OTA this season and simulcast across multiple Gray Television markets, Magic signed a non- exclusive streaming deal with DAZN and also OTA)
Bucks @ Wizards (only Wizards feed easy to remap, Bucks are OTA & there own streaming service Bucks+)
Hornets @ Nets (only Nets feed which DirecTV already carries so simply YES remap, Hornets signed non-exclusive streaming deal with DAZN, also OTA)
Bulls @ Raptors (Bulls only feed via CHSN remap, its common that we don't get Raptors feeds that often)
Jazz @ Grizzlies (Jazz only feed OTA easy to insert, Grizzlies signed streaming deal with DAZN)
Pacers @ Pelicans (Pelicans only feed which is OTA easy to insert, Pacers signed streaming deal with DAZN)

Maybe it will change but it looks like DirecTV may only carry DAZN feeds on NBA LP when there is no other option, such as when two teams (either Cavaliers, Pacers, Grizzlies, Timberwolves, Spurs) that are both DAZN exclusive are playing each other, we shall see as the season goes on I guess.

This NBA season will be the first in a long time where many League Pass games are carried on feeds DirecTV doesn't normally carry or are only available through OTA spot beams. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out, especially whether we eventually get both home and away feeds for these teams out of market again.

Greenville-New Bern is $11.99 for MASN (Orioles) and Nationals
Raleigh is $11.99 for MASN and Nationals
Charlotte is $12.99 for BravesVision, MASN, Nationals and Reds

The fee in NC also includes the higher in state rate they have to pay for ACCN. Down in SC the fee is $15.99 as they are also a SEC state.
I'm not sure if they're doing it with those teams, but in some markets they also use the fee to cover the additional cost they have to pay for independents and MyNet stations that picked up full season NHL and NBA rights.

If you go to the TVPromise site, you'll likely be able to get a credit for not getting the Hurricanes and additional Hornets games that air on WITN-D2

Figure DTV that always says is the leader in sports would have come to an agreement by now.
Part of the hold out might be the packaging and price for outer areas like how the Thunder needs sports pack for other states. Hopefully they are also pushing for a guarantee from the teams that they would require whoever wins their local broadcasting rights in 2028 to negotiate with MVPDs. Commercial distribution rights are probably a factor too.

I'm guessing they got a deep discount for the Clippers based on how long it took them to officially announce ClipperVision and their KTLA simulcasts after they were basically handed a multi-year draft death penalty.

The Predators and Pistons channels are using feeds supplied by Scripps Sports

The Heat likely depends on whoever they sign for the Fort Myers DMA, as there's no point in paying a high price for the Heat just for that DMA when WPLG is streaming it for free on their app and website for viewers in the Miami DMA, and they already carry the West Palm Beach station.

I tried this with both the Hurricanes and Hornets since I'm in upstate SC, and wasn't offered any kind of credit by the site. It's not a huge deal to me as I can pick up WSOC/WAXN over the air at my location even though I'm outside the Charlotte market.

The rest of us figured it out in about 3 years, Jerry has had over 30 years but still can't admit it. It's all he lives for, to show everyone he can put together a winner. I don't think he can. His kids only know what he taught them.

Browns. 1st place in the North. Yup. Believe it or not

Chiefs. Undefeated.

Titans. Won a game ! .... Colts I know, but still.

Saints. Won a game after a while.

Steelers. Having the same season they always have. They somehow find wins on their way to an unceremonial 1st round exit. Mike Tomlin is proud.

Cards. Won a game without scoring a single touchdown

Broncos. How they manage to win games with the dogshit offense they have should be studied.

Bears. Caleb's back and so is their mojo.

Goats

NFC East. For the 2nd straight week no team from this clown show of a division won a game. Eagles are cooked without Hurts. Who's not that good anyway. Commanders suck, Dallas is well ..... Dallas and the Giants have no QB.

Ravens. Lamar is out (as usual). But still. Losing to the Browns is never ok.

Chargers. Still can't win.

Rams. So much for the powerhouse team. They are 2 games under .500

Seattle. Lost to the offenseless Broncos.
