Dish commercial stating "multi room viewing"

Has anyone else seen the Dish commercial comparing Dish with DirecTV? It shows two TV's sitting side by side. One has DirecTV logo on it and the other has Dish logo. It says one of the major differences in the two services is that on Dish you can record a program on one TV and watch that same program on a different TV in the house. Is this something new from Dish? I didn't think this was possible with Dish receivers.

Nope, they don't. Realize, however, that they do NOT mention that the TV2 is SD analog only though. All HD will be reduced to SD for TV2.

I would kill for true multiroom viewing, like Direct or the fiber providers. I want to watch my HD recording in HD on any receiver, and I want the boxes to talk to each other to resolve recording conflicts. No more identical timers on multiple boxes, and no more worrying about free tuners for recordings.

Direct does NOT have MRV available to the general public yet.

They will have it "real soon now" as they have been saying for the last year or more.

Hold your breath only if you look really good in blue!

My neighborhood is finally being wired for U-verse and when I can get it, will dump Direct in a heartbeat. They make a lot of promises, but deliver on few. At least FIOS and U-verse actually have MRV and as long as I can get HD in any room when I want, that will work just fine for me, even with the maximum of 2 HD channels that can be watched live at any time.

Why should they? They could have been talking about 522's and 625's for all we know. Most customers still subscribe to SD programming. 522 and 625 are SD in both TV1 and TV2.
HD or Not 622 and 722 still serve 2 rooms.

I don't recall them saying anything until a few months ago. Testing has been going on for about a year, but they have not announced MRV during that time.

They have the network connections working on the VIPs. No reason they couldn't get them talking to each other. It would take some programming. but they are so close now it's almost trivial. One receiver gets designated as "Master" and the other(s) as "Slave(s)". The master acts as a traffic cop to resolve conflicts in recording (timers) and the Master also keeps a Table of Contents (so to speak) about what recordings exist and what receiver they're on.

Going to "My Recordings" on any DVR receiver brings up the Master's Table of Contents showing all recorded programming on all receivers.

A lot of the work to get this going is already done. The receivers run a linux-based operating system. MythTV is already out there and is open source. What MythTV lacks is the abililty to work with satellite receivers easily (inexpensively). If it was running ON the satellite receiver then .... done deal. Dish could still contribute their code for the MythTV bits back to the open source comuity and look like a hero. Meanwhile the parts that make it all work with their receivers remains proprietary so nobody could take a computer and hack it into a satellite receiver.

I have no idea why they wouldn't be working on this and for all I know, they already are, but it makes a ton of sense in a whole lot of ways.

I am sure if DISH did allow true multi -view as described by cparker that there would be a new multi-view dvr fee that would be higher than the present dvr fee of $5.98. To me they should just create a whole house HD dvr that can be networked to HD slave receivers, but allow each slave recevier its own ota and sat channel. It would work if you had upto 4 sat and 4 ota tuners built into the main unit. Imagine how it would be if you could record 8 things at a time in single mode?

Yep, you are right. We had a 5xx years ago, when SD was all you could get. The TV2 was awesome, IMO.

OK, maybe you want to say it was "leaked" long before that, huh? Maybe when FIOS and U-verse were starting to make inroads? A strategic leak, as it were? Nahhhhhhhh, we know D* would never stoop to that level.

Heard a story from one of the Apple influencers on YT that the 18PM has a bug where it stops connecting to AT&T service. Doesn't affect Verizon or T-Mobile. Apple is replacing the phones. Anyone else hear of this? Defective Modem?

Comcast called fiber pricing "irrational" because the ROI is over three years. What is irrational to me is Comcast internet is based on lines they put in the ground decades ago at this point, for the most part. Is copper that much more expensive to maintain?

yes. even copper lines in a house degrade over 70 years, I doubt coax would last that long. Fiber Optic on the isp side will last over 70 years with very dedgration

But by law food product packaging must display the actual net weight of the product, i.e., the contents of the container, so by any logic, if not law, a store's stated per-ounce cost should reflect that figure. But since there's not any law regulating shelf statements, a store can say whatever it wants without violating any rules. So I guess the answer is more consumer legislation. Or simply caveat emptor.

I would think that the Vendor/Maker of the product would have a say in it, showing the Correct weight ...
You would think it would be in the contract.

I do look at the ounces of items, but unless its way off, I don't check the math, may have to start now.

Remember when you use to get a 13.5 oz bag of Chips .... Thats a PARTY Size now.

You would be thinking wrong when it comes to goods that are sold by weight (meat, produce, nails). Those items typically go on the scale wrapped without an associated tare. The weight only excludes the sticker because it hasn't been printed yet.

Perhaps only for sliced meat and cheese. Salads and similarly "shifty" or "drippy" items are typically weighed in deli cartons of some sort.

My monster burritos (up to two lbs.) are weighed in their foil jackets or paper mache take-out trays, and the jacket/tray is then "sealed" with the printed label as it comes off the printer.

Precision has to give way to practicality in situations like that.

What ever I get out of the Deli is put into a container when I ask them for it, they weight the container and then add the deli product, thats the way its suppose to be, if the rest of the world is screwing you, you should try the place down the street.

I' m really not suppose to have Ice Cream, or at least Moderately ....
Depending on the amount of sugar and sodium (don't think theres sodium in it, but Carbs probably is.)

They are made every day at this place ... it's a little Ma and Pop store ...

I did look into that ... the ones I get have about 65mg, which is very little ... but then I wouldn't expect much to be in Ice Cream.

We're less than 4 weeks away from Voyager 1 reaching a distance of one light day from Earth

I've always been super interested in things space related so this is a pretty cool event coming up. Nov 18, 2026 early in the morning, Voyager 1 will reach the distance of one full light day from Earth. Took almost 50 yrs. I was 13 when it launched.

All DMA's now Western Arc

I know HipKat said that they were working on conversions but we got the official news yesterday right from Dish that starting next month all DMA's will be on the western arc, and all customers will be assigned to that. That's gonna mean a lot of customers around here aren't gonna get Dish unless there are exceptions. Too many mountains and trees.

I hope these new "most powerful" satellites will mean that DISH can provide every channel that can be sourced in HD in HD. I do not like the fact that two of my favorite channels (Start and H&I) are SD. I was also very disappointed after installation that METV has to be streamed from my internet connection. Finally, I dropped the locals upon seeing that my local CW channel is in blurry letterboxed SD when it has been HD OTA for years.

This piece gets me - the fact that Dish has removed SD channels from satellite completely in the name of "HD upgrades". I pay for satellite TV, not streaming...I don't see why they couldn't leave the SD version of the channels on Satellite then put the HD streaming version like they have for other channels.

At this point one can only ask whether any live ch's are still distributed in SD. Other than maybe "classics" ch's that run only older stuff

Even if you are broadcasting old SD-only shows, I would think advertisers would still want their commercials to look good.

Advertisers on SD channels are probably Far and Few, very hard to find, they have very few viewers to watch them.

I watch mostly SD channels (H&I, Start and ION, etc.). There are plenty of advertisers, this time of the year it is mostly Medicare Advantage plans, auto extended warranties and the occasional walk-in-tub. They know who is watching.

Not many are watching.
Majority are watching the same shows in HD or 4K
