I have a Digiwave DGL-1189S Ku Twin LNBF circulr/linear hooked up on my Primestar 1.2m dish. I am using my Coolsat 8000HD receiver.
I got this LNBF for getting NASA and Ion on 119W.
I set the LNBF on LO:10.75 standard.
On G19 (97W) some Tps are like 1% (11779H 3979), 20% (11789V 28125), 59-62%(11836V 20765),85% (1196H 22000), 72% (11991V 22000), 1% (12053V 22000), etc... Can't even get the Tp that have Fashion Channel (HD).
Since the dish is motorized the LNBF skew is set at 0 since movement of the dish determine the skew.
Is this LNBF suitable for any HD channels? None seems to come in at all. I can't even program AMC21 to get the PBS channels at all.
On AMC1 (103W) the Tps are 64% (11942V 2000), and 47% (12142V 2000), 44% (12182V 25000), 1-5% (12097V 200000. Sometimes the Pentagon channels fade in and out, breaking up.
Are you guys getting the same results as me? Or is this LNBF any good at all? What would be a good LNBF to get a steady worthwhile signals?

Dang!!!
i went outside and swap the LNBs (from the DGL-1189S Ku Twin LNBF to the standard 10750 LNBF) and the difference is HUGH!
I get all of G19 Tps with high quality readings. I decided just put a Dishnet dish to get NASA, etc.
I really am disappointed with the linear/circular LNBF....

Yup, it has a noise figure of 0.5, while most of recent ku lineal LNBs have 0.2 or even 0.1, a universal Ku LNB usually has 0.3 db.

It doesn't seem like a lot of difference but as you experimented, it can be a lot :p.

In the other hand, DBS signals can be so powerful that even with a colander we can get them... not really but you get my point :p.

Specifications (might come in handy if someone wants to know):

Yea, good point, 118.7° uses 10750 LO, but is circular!
I really can't think of much use for one of those, other than as you said: convert it to linear and forget it. - ;)

I guess what I was thinking about may have been the clone of the Invacom QPH-031.
(Which actually works quite well as linear/10750 and circular/11250)
There were some LNBs sold by ignorant or unscrupulous dealers AS the real Invacom part.
Seems like those didn't live up to their claims so well , either.
All the more reason we need little reviews to point to, so we make sure we all get the right stuff! -

My experience with that LNB left much to be desired, A LOT, it was marketed as a Lineal/Circular LNB and until now that i've read Iceberg's post from early this year, i've figured it's not a Lineal/Circular.

I tried to get the channels with it at 123ºW but it was pretty much awful.

I just decided to tell the store were i bought it that it didn't work as specified since i could not get a single lineal channel, the guy at the store contacted his dealer and the response they gave him was "oh it's not a lineal/circular, the package was wrong, we sent you low frequency circular LNBs designed for people who get tv circunventing DN's security to watch channels at 118.8ºW" (as in h@ckw@re).

They offered my money back so i ordered an Invacom Lineal/Circular and it was good, then again, it's a good brand, and the installation is running really well, or at least that's what i've been told.

Before that I compared the Digiwave to a 0.1db Eagle Aspen, a 0.2 db Chaparral, and an older 0.5 db Chaparral Quad, the Quad had a very poor response, while the other two were really good.

So in restrospective, in my experience using commercial grade LNBs:
0.1db > 0.2db > 0.5db

Nowadays i've been hearing a lot about a spitfire lineal LNB but i had not tested that one.

In the other hand, a friend told me about this same LNB, he was interested in catching 118ºW, and what i heard from him is that he configured it as 10500 instead of 10600 or 10750, you know, like those directv latino LNBs, and alas, he got what he wanted.

Would any of those old Primestar LNBFs work on circular as well? I got few of them laying around.

My P* lnbf is linear.

Their is a vendor on eBay from canada that sells a circular lnbf for under $15 and works very good for me. I offset it 6 degrees on a motorized dish and can jump from 119 to 125 via switch setting. I believe it is advertised as 119 & 118 lnbf.

The QPH-031 is the only Invacom designed and sold for operating circular (so far as I know).
It does circular, and Standard linear
All the other Invacoms are Universal linear. (I like the SNH-031 :) )

As for any linear getting some circular, yes, because the signal levels are so high, some linear LNBs can get some of the lower channels.
You might have to blind scan, but some can get the signal.
Not a reliable nor repeatable method, so not recommended, of course.

edit: Probably Too Much Information (tmi) -
Well, if you wanted to modify a Primestar LNBF, I suppose you could shove a bit of teflon or few layers of credit card down its throat, at a jaunty angle, and increase the circular performance.
I can't imagine anyone actually doing that, but technically it's possible.
As for the wrong LO frequency, I won't get into changing that. ;)
(Search for a discussion of modifying a circular DirecTV or DishNetwork LNB to linear, for more info, if you are a masochistic. )
M
most folks just find an old DirecTV LNB and use it for circular

There are low frequency circular LNBs, those were made for Japan and 'Latinoamerica', those low frequency LNBs work at 10500.

So if you want to catch 118.8ºW just for the sake of it and see if there's something ITC, and also get 119ºW, you'd need to get ahold of one of those DTV Latino LNBs, they do have less gain than a normal circular LNB. And from what a friend told me, that same Digiwave was working fine at 10500, don't have a way to confirm it except what he told me.

If your question was regarding the first part of what you quoted, well, i posted that just to let you know that my statement had basis on tests i made, after 20+ years in this hobbie i've came to test newer things just for the sake of it (the exception being DVB-S2 until a receiver catches my interest AND it's MLB season again).

This should hit a lot of folks with a dose of reality. I can only imagine how much more common this will get as AI progresses.

I read several stories on this and most are clear as mud. They say a lot of the stolen bitcoin has been "locked out" and that everyone will be made financially whole. I guess time will tell if either of these statements are actually true.

The "Secure Asset Fund" had about $1 billion in reserves... in Bitcoin.

The fund started in 2018, so it may take a while to make investors whole, much less replenish the fund.

That's kinda what I was seeing but all the news reports are suggesting that all investors will be made whole immediately.
The other thing they weren't clear about was the BTC that was "locked out" of the system. I guess that means that the stolen BTC is basically worthless now because I don't see how it could be replaced....but there is a LOT about the crypto world that leaves me scratching my head.

A few clarifications... the ~$3B "locked" was mostly stablecoins (USDT/USDC). Tether and Circle can blacklist their own tokens, which makes those worthless to the thief. Bitcoin and ETH have no issuer, so they can't be frozen. That's the ~$2.4–3.3B the hackers still have, so the stolen BTC is very much not worthless to them. It was also spread across 10 blockchains, not just bitcoin. On getting made whole: SAFU is ~15,000 BTC (~$1.2B), and Binance says it'll cover the rest from company funds. Analysts don't see it as a solvency problem, and withdrawals are expected back within days.

The attack was pinned on North Korea's TraderTraitor group via a compromised engineer laptop. Like many hacks and compromises, that's old-school social engineering, not AI.

This is what scares me about cryptocurrency: there doesn't seem to be any oversight.

It seems more like politics than investing.

That's the tradeoff stablecoins make - a central issuer that can freeze funds, which is why half the loot got stopped. Bitcoin and ETH have no one in charge, so nobody can reverse a theft, but nobody can freeze your coins either. Stablecoins trade price volatility for trusting a central issuer.

I was reading this article

That said this-
Last summer, for the first time, streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime claimed the largest share of the television viewing audience, surpassing both cable and broadcast TV. Streaming captured 34.8 percent of July viewers, according to Nielsen data, compared to 34.4 percent for cable and 21.6 percent for broadcast.

And then, sometime in the second half of 2022, cord-cutters became the majority. The share of cable and satellite television subscribers dipped to 48 percent, according to a report from Samba TV, a television technology company.

Now I do not consider those with YTTV and the likes, Cord Cutters, but they still do not have Traditional Cable/Satellite delivered Live TV, so I decided to do the math.

There are, now, 129 Million Households in the United States.

In 2015, there were 100 Million Cable/Sat Subscribers , no streaming Live TV Service.

Today, there are 66 Million Live TV subscribers, including Cable, Satellite and Streaming.

Roughly, Streaming Live TV has 14 Million subs including all of them.

So that means, Cable/Satellite now has, roughly, 51 Million Households

So in just 8 years, lost 49% of their subscribers and by the end of this year, expected sub count to be, roughly, 45 million households.

That means a total loss of 55% since 2015 at the end of 2023.

But out of 129 Million households, 45 million will mean only 35% will get Cable/Satellite Delivered Live TV by the end of 2023.

Imagine what 2024 will be like.

Nobody is "happy" or "sad" about this. Simply posting data in an non-editorialized way has nothing to do with anyone's feelings.

The data on the streaming side is immensely accurate, I'm guessing to the millisecond. Plus most people likely have not turned off data sharing and thus they are grabbing a huge swath of data. Much more accurate than cable which relies on a smaller sample size and probably not to the second.

In either case, nobody is getting "double counted" because it's usage based. If I watch 100 minutes of content and 30 minutes is on Youtube and 20 minutes on Disney and 50 minutes on YTTV, it's going to show up as 30%, 20%, 50% slices of my personal pie respectively.
Q.
Who does the Counting for Streaming ?

Neilson does the Broadcast/Cable ...
Nielsen does. If you go into the settings of any of your streaming accounts, you can turn off the option to share to usage data with their third party measuring service - Nielsen.

Pissed off at the crappy healthcare costs

My health Insurance renewal for 2027 just came in. Going from $827 a month to $1,187 a month. Deductible going up a $1k to $9,350. Max out of pocket also going up $1k to $11,000. Doctor co-pay of $40. Urgent Care co-pay $50. ER 50% coinsurance after deductible. That's all in network. Out of network is double, should it be needed.

Have to think about this. I'm really tempted to just go without now. I only go to the doctor once or twice a year. I pay out of pocket for Tirzepitide and can do without the Rosuvastatin (crestor) now. Really tired of spending over $10k a year and getting nothing out of it.

After years with Blue Cross I switched last year to Ambetter as my Blue Cross premium was going from $1200 to $1800 for a Silver plan and the Bronze plan was still going to be $1300 at BCBS. Ambetter was $827 for the same coverage with a Bronze plan. Didn't think it would jump this much so soon.

I'm guessing a Silver plan is probably over $2,000 a month for 2027.

Thanks to Fitch Ratings ( who gives the ratings on Credit and debt, as approved by the SEC, so they have accurate numbers) we have the totals.

DIRECTV's video subscriber base is the third-largest traditional multi-channel video programming distributor (MVPD) in the U.S. with about 8.2 million subscribers at the end of 1Q26.

The last time it was reported, it was 8.8M at the end of 2Q25, so only a 600,000 loss for 3 quarters, which is a major improvement, since for many years before that, it was losing 500,000 a quarter, 2 Million a year.

It is now losing less than Dish/Sling combined, I believe the Genre Packs are helping to retain and get subscribers.

Still an average of 200,000 lost per quarter ( for the last four quarters), less than Dish/Sling, which lost 241,000 in the second quarter, 366,000 in the first quarter.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

OH - how about them Tigers!!
You have to find my account in the settings. Only works if you're connected to internet.

Thanks, I found it. I have no offers.

Added the protection plan last week and went to cancel it. The website offered me 3 months free.

It is really really simple install (no special tools or instruments required and they guide you through using their starlink app and a simple set of instructions.

You can order direct from starlink online or from an authorized retailer.

Not at all like the special equipment needed for a satellite install.

Thank you Nelson,
Yes, I fully agree. I can install it with my teeth, and both hands tied behind my back...but this installation is for a commercial user that will not do it themselves, and myself, Im overseas...

But it looks like that we managed to find someone who can drive there for the work.

Thank you 🙏
J
have you got it done

It states the average amount they are under water is OVER $7,000. :eek

Personally, I tend to be the type that drives a vehicle for a lot of years....do my own oil changes and other fluid changes. Just replaced the spark plugs and a couple coils. Youtube is great for things like this.

I'm pretty sure the most you can get is seven.

What America can't afford is the payments on $80,000+ pickups and SUVs and $40,000+ crossovers.

Believe it or not, 8 yrs...96 mon is starting to become common.

What I can't believe is the interest rates they are charging now. I've got a high credit score and when recently at a Ford dealership I inquired about what the rates were for new vehicles and he said 6.9%. Yikes.
