Just wondering if you all think my lnb is destabilizing in cold weather?
Ku is still good across the entire arc. C band now that it's cold as crap here is down quite a bit with signal quality jumping up and down a lot.
FTA and 4 dtv is suffering. even w5 has some tp's down to 85% quality on the dsr 905. that bird is always pinned on 99% every channel.

I have another lnb but its less than 30 outside now i think.

i put the norsat 8115 on and signals shot to the moon.
The cheap lnb was giving up @ 21 degrees F.
I do like the idea of a couple 12 volt bulbs on a 1 amp walwart idea. Cheap to make and easy to do. You could even go a hair further by going to your local hvac supply and buying a "freeze stat". A thermostat used for heat pumps to detect freezing temperatures that will turn on the good old electric resistance heater strips. You could wire that inline with one of your leads to turn on the bulbs in freezing weather.
B.J.
An LNB shouldn't become that unstable with cold temperatures, although LO freq drift will occur.
However if there are hardware defects in the LNB, the cold weather can trigger problems. I had one LNB once that worked fine for a few years at cold temperatures, but then began to give me problems. What it would do, was when the temperatures started to drop, the LNB would go into oscillation, and there would be a strong birdie freq that would appear in the spectrum and as the temperature dropped it would one by one knock out each channel. This was back in the analog days, and my TV screen would go black on one channel at a time only, and the signal reading would be pegged high. I found that if I'd unplug the receiver for a few seconds and turn it back on, everything would be OK again.
THis occurred every evening as the temperature dropped from about 15 degrees down to 5 or 10 deg F. Once the temperature had dropped down to below 5, everything was fine. I lived with this for several years, then got a new LNB, and never saw the behavior again.
Anyway, if your LNB gets unstable with low temperatures, I think it's a defective LNB. On the other hand, most moderate cost LNBs will drift up to 2 MHz at low temperature, and some receivers will have problems tracking the frequency difference.
The DCII receivers will usually start out using the expected frequency for a signal, but will eventually generate a freq offset that will allow it to be stable.
I'd suggest leaving it on one of the problem channels for several minutes to see if it gets more stable, then switch channels and come back. If it is unstable again, then it might just be an lnb freq drift issue, not an instability issue.
I used to have problems with the narrow SR PBS DCII channels when the temperatures got cold, because my LNB would drift off freq, but if I left the receiver on that channel for a while, it would eventually stabilize.

Could this cause the loss of -S2 signals on KU? When the temp drops below 20 degrees f . I am loosing all my -S2 signals. Even the ones that are normally in the high % quality range i.e. 90% and above. -S signals are ok and do not appear to not to change in quality or signal levels.

I believe the LNB is a Chaparral degree unknown (all information gone. I can see the tag but all the printing is gone) just about 20 years old.

Thanks:)

it very well could be. i had an lnbf that would not want to change polarity when it got real cold. I have had diseqc switches that would work right cold too. cold weather can do wierd stuff to this equipment.

It's -5 f this morning and now all KU signals are gone. Time for a new LNB I guess.

Dang. That had to hurt. I would have not handled it that well. Surprised it wasn't brought up by Heff at the challenge.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

SpaceX has held talks with Boost's parent company EchoStar in recent months about launching its own signature wireless service through a deal with the company, according to two people familiar with the negotiations.
Musk, the SpaceX CEO, has discussed the deal personally, meeting with EchoStar chairman Charlie Ergen last month, according to the people. The potential deal may result in SpaceX acquiring Boost Mobile or SpaceX gaining access to its network, which it leases from AT&T and T-Mobile US, the people said.
Access to those lease agreements would be a coup for SpaceX. The back door would allow Musk to make a play for a U.S. wireless market that equity research firm MoffettNathanson estimates is worth $235 billion. But the proposed service may need consent from those carriers for the service to actually launch, the people said.

Can't remember where or who I saw predict this. :D

It wouldn't surprise me to see Elon soon own all of DISH / Echostar in the future.

Again, why would Musk want a TV Service, specially one that is losing over a million subscribers a year.

Phone service…maybe, but not TV.

I know he wants TV. He wants to deliver EVERYTHING to EVERYWHERE.
Again, if so, why would he want Dish/Sling of all the providers?

He could deliver anything without actually owning, for example, watching the Lions game in my Tesla Y on it's screen via the YT app, while on the way to my future in-laws on Sunday.

Just a guess on my part but there may be some value to aquring to get all the retransmision agreements that are in place even though at some point they need to be renewed

If Musk really wants to buy Boost, he might get a great price once Dish Wireless is out of Chapter 11.

Boost just lost 182,000 subs in the 3rd quarter-

I have Dish with Hopper3. I choose to get local channels OTA and had a "guide list" established at my previous home. Having moved a few miles away, I wanted to update the list by appending a couple new stations via a rescan. As many would know, some stations come in with the UHF/VHF antenna aimed in one direction, while others come in better with a different direction.

Unfortunately, when a scan is done (bringing in 25-30 stations for that particular antenna aim), the dialog screen does not present the established guide list; it presents an empty field to the right that the scanned stations may be selected one by one and added to the empty guide. But because of antenna aim, some stations originally saved are missing, and would have to be retrieved with a different antenna aim. But as I explain, if a 2nd scan is done with a different antenna aim, the stations saved from the first scan are lost.

It troubles me that Dish didn't develop software that would allow a user to simply append only 1 or 2 channels to the established list.

Any thought on this? Has anyone experienced this or heard of this from others?

I could very well be wrong....it has been a LOT of years but back when I had a 722K it seemed like when you went back to the scan screen that you could just scan again and it would ADD those channels to the previous list or you could delete the previous results and only add the channels from the new scan.

I am not sure about that but I do know that you could manually add additional channels just by entering the actual RF channel number and the older receivers would add the virtual channels to your list

Like I said.....that has been many years ago. Swapped my 722K for a Hopper in 2012.

It does seem like I remember having to delete the existing channels when we did a rescan. Back then our local stations KEPT monkeying around with things and it was non-stop complaints from customers about their channels not coming in. Got so bad that I stopped selling OR installing OTAs....something I had been doing since 1984 so you know it HAD to be pretty bad.

Balls
Bears. Took care of the elite Seahawks defense in a great performance.
NFC North. The entire division is 2 games above .500
Lions. Finally handed an L to that weird Minnesota team. Good vibes for Jack Campbell.
Pitt. Took the lead of the division convincingly.
Bengals vs Titans game. Fireworks game. Not sure it was a well-played game, but it sure was fun. JoeyB with 6 scores... and 4 turnovers.
Denver. They keep winning, man. Payton is a baller of a coach.
Packers. Thorough beatdown of the hard-to-read Panthers.
Jags. Demolished the hapless Colts.
Rams. The Super team finally wins back-to-back games.

Goats
Vikings. Took their first L. I know their D is insane, but their offense is setting back football to the 1950's.
Cowboys. Lost a 2-score lead vs. the Gardner Minshew-led Cards... at home. Embarrassing.
Browns. Playing for the division lead by scoring 6 points.
Bucs vs Falcons game. Setting modern football back to the ice age. Honorable mention to Tua Penix err ... Michael Tagov .... well, you know what I mean.
Bengals fans acting like Burrow just won the MVP after his performance. I get it. 6 scores is awesome. But. He also turned the ball over 4 times and required overtime to beat the 1-win Titans. So spare me the parade.
Chiefs. Not because they lost. It was a close game decided on the last play vs. a divisional rival on the road. That's always rough. But because of their whining over the CLEAR flag they got on the would-be winning play. They are used to getting the calls, and when they don't, they complain. Honorable mention to Mahomes for this quote: "I mean, at the end of the day, you have to go with whatever is called, but a lot of times in those big moments, the little stuff doesn't get called like that"... so you admit it was a penalty?? Just shut up, man.
Colts. They began the fire sale earlier in the week, and it showed. This team is cooked; Daniel Jones should go to the bench, and Steichen will be fired pretty soon.
Chargers. Wow. That's all I got.
Miami. For having the Pats sort of on the ropes and letting them go.
Eagles. Another team that should consider selling some assets. They are going nowhere.

Just the same vilification as players like Brady experienced, a product of their success and largely overblown (just like them 'getting all the calls').

Well you see him more because he is incredibly talented. And yes, typically players try to spin things being in their favor. This isn't cricket where sportsmanship (except in Australia) is expected.

The only people who deny what Brady got from the officials are Brady fans
gms49ers
The NFL, for some time, has protected the marquee quarterbacks. Brady, Mahomes, Allen, Burrow - they all get the calls.
The lower tier QBs don't seem to get the same benefit. For instance, some of the hits that Darnold took from Chicago on Monday night would have been a flag frenzy if any of the marquee QBs were hit like that. And I am not in any way a fan of anything Seahawks related. I am a fan of balanced officiating - and that hasn't been the case for a while.

My team is not immune to this - Fred Warner laid some vicious hits in the Commanders game that I thought should have been flagged - one was, but they picked it up.

Not a good look on NFL officials.
