10 more Days to Field Day:

I will be at Wells Mills County Park, in Waretown, NJ with the Old Barney Amateur Radio Club. If you hear N2OB on any band give a call.

I am helping out with lunch duties and will be trying to make a Ham Radio Satellite contact. See pics of the AZ/EL and polarity changing mount, with a light weight 3-element 2 meter yagi antenna and a 6-element 70 cm yagi antenna I made. I also made an X-wing UHF right hand circular polarized satellite antenna.

I will be 20 meters for an hour or two, early Sunday Morning around 3 AM. Hope to contact some of my FTA-Ham Buddies.

Digital signal with encryption just sounds like noise and spread spectrum Tx looks like background noise on most monitor receivers.

Your right I sent an e-mail to Mike Frye the author and designer of the X-wing and he did mention that mil-satcom fm is very rare, here is his quote:

"Satcom signals in the clear are a bit rare but take a listen to 255.555MHz NBFM in the afternoon and early evening time for Brazilian pirates, they seem to use this frequency a lot.

These are wide band data carriers and are best detected in AM mode. As you tune across them you can hear a definite change in the background hiss. I used several of these carriers with a spectrum analyzer when comparing the X-wing gain to other antennas."

You guessed why we don't hear the military, I am going to find one of those digital computer programs that can do ALE (Automatic Link Establishment) so I can copy some milcom.

Thats great, I started to work 6 meters at midnight saturday and worked around 5 stations in Florida, the band was in and out and folded after those contacts. I then went over to 20 meter phone around one, worked a couple of the mid-west state and six land contacts and the band folded. All toll you made more contacts then I. We feed around 40 hams lunch and dinner and the food cordination (which I do) was a chore. The Old Barney Amateur Radio Club does well score wise even with my small contribution, we usally come in the top ten of the entry class. I would of loved to log in your 1B EWA, maybe next year. We were 4A SNJ.

Sweet, I worked in about 250 contacts on 20 meters and 40 meters from 8pm to midnight, from Florida to the west coast. It inspired me to go out and finally get a 746pro. Some traffic jams were crazy to get through..

Well, I decided to try to get on HF after a 5 year wait. I got 3 - 30 foot telephone poles and 3 - 15 foot to put up in place of towers or trees but I have not had time to do it. So, I just put up a 135 ft dipole feed by ladder line accross the yard and set up on the dirt with my Icom 530. My ham generator ate a valve so that left me the choice of my big generator at 1 gallon per hour or battery operation with solar - and HEY solar worked. I charged for 14 hours at over 15 amps!

I was only able to load up on 80, 40 and 20 Meters. !5 and 10 were no load. Oh yes, one contact for the contest on 2 meters, my wife gave me a report from her handheld to mine to tell me she did have dinner ready.

I had two human visitors and one horse.

ARRL contest HQ said since I had not been on the air yet from home I could be class B, and I did not start to set up until the start of the Field Day so I was able to be on the whole 27 hours.... But I went to bed and did not use all the time.

Now to make it permanant and get the Nye Viking tuner working - and maybe add some more antennas. I have a tri-band vertical given to me to try to figure out.

No, I was actually referring to outside of the Top 8, but should have been Top 12 ...

I guess I should have looked at the bracket from last year first ...

I'm more thinking about them trying to expect a 15 to beat a 5 seed or there abouts .

Just a couple of weeks ago. Unranked Florida knocked off number 7 texas. Unranked Auburn beat number 1 Georgia.

This week unranked Cincinnati beat number 8 texas Tech. Unranked UCF beat number 2 BYU.

No reason to think similar upsets wont happen in the playoffs where a low seed can upset a higher one.

Yep, wonder why we rank the top 25 in 2 poles still? Do the ranking change much if they are unranked or have many loses? They sure do, any given day never take your opponent as a cake walk.....

Correct, you Do get upsets from time to time ....however .
You Don't get teams UPSETTING teams for 5 weeks in a row.

They are trying to make this Basketball and its a far cry from the way that is played.

How long till they go to 32 teams ? Then they will say, well, the NFL is 32 teams, we can make more money that way .... except the NFL is 32 teams, that are a set number of teams and divisions, you don't have that in College ... oh but they will try.

They would have to choose what teams they would want in and thats it.
Hopefully that NEVER happens.

I can see the NCAA going away and the CFP taking that portion over and a Collective Bargaining agreement coming in the not to distant future.

The problem with rankings and playoffs is that they are designed to hype the game and make money. Period.

The only reason that BYU and Texas Tech were upsets is that they were hyped up in the standings in the first place. I love watching BYU and Bear Bachmeier. They are a fun and talented team, but not nearly so strong, fast, big, and skilled as a true top ten team. Does anyone truly believe they could compete with the likes of Georgia, Ohio State, Indiana, Alabama, etc.? Yet, they were ranked above those teams.

Each year, there are 10 to 12 teams who truly could compete for the championship if it depended on winning more than one game in a playoff. Including teams like James Madison, Tulane, BYU, etc. in a playoff has nothing to do with determining a national champion. It's just about money.

I mean if you drag it out, no team even a favorite is gonna win every game 20 weeks in a row.

With the parity in college football now, who knows who can beat anyone at any given time?

This season and last have shown it might not be the ones we think that might win it all that will win it all.

There is absolutely NO compelling reason for anybody to switch to ATSC3.0. They only want it as a total and complete money grab.

What bothers me is the total waste of broadcasting spectrum in this very crowded market. It has been almost three years now since KFOX converted their broadcast tower to ATSC 3.0 and moved all of their channels to other towers causing noticeable degradation of the picture quality.
I have a Sony TV with 3.0 capabilities but still use the 1.0 version of locals due to the fact that one or all of the 3.0 channels are often missing or unwatchable. In this city of 800K I doubt that more than a few hundred even know about ATSC 3.0.
The only thing that could motivate me to be interested in 3.0 would be if all of the minor networks (diginets) could be in at least 720P rather than blurry ultra-compressed 480i.
Three years is long enough to waste one of the few available RF frequencies in the area for this trial.
It is time to either move on with this experiment or call it quits.

IFixIt has published their Teardown and they had some positive things to say about the iPhone Duo. It still showed some dust ingress into the hinge assembly but seemed otherwise well-sealed.

But with a considerable number of reports of the main screen dying with similar failures, AppleCare+ should be a no-brainer for this phone.

Thought I was getting a Chorizo and egg burrito (marker had rubbed off)but was a roast beef/potato I made up before hunting this morning.
Btw every morning at camp I cooked my homemade Chorizo and scrambled eggs plus sausage side while my brother brought bacon. (they liked both the beef and pork versions)
