Ok, this question gets asked over and over, so I thought a summary of ways that might increase your chances of getting them was a good idea.

May of these suggestions are either rumor or been stated by DirecTV customer service representatives, who's information isn't always accurate. These techniques are likely to help but not guarantee what you'll get.

It's important to remember, DirecTV DOES NOT and WILL NOT guarantee what version of HD or HD-DVR receiver you will get on a new install.

1. Sign up for Multi-room viewing (MRV). This seems to be the most helpful towards getting an HR24/H24. Since it's an easier install for the tech as well, this may help your odds.

2. Pay the $25 TV Internet Connection Service fee. This was stated from a customer service rep as a way to assure HR24 and H24. This is likely not the case, but can't hurt for sure.

3. Put in your installer comments if you order online (or ask them to add them if you order over the phone) that you want to be called before they come out to install anything but HR24/H24s. Explain that you won't allow the install until they can come out with the equipment you want. This could end up with an ultimately cancelled order....but basically if the tech wants to get paid for your install, he'll have to get you the right equipment. It's possible the installer in your area has a warehouse full of older receivers and literally can't/won't get you HR24/H24s......in that case you'll have to either take what he has or look at doing #4.

4. Order your leased receivers through a retailer like SolidSignal. Unfortunately, you won't get the up to $298 on two receivers discount as a new customer buying your leased units this way, but it assures you getting what you want.

5. Sign up through a local reseller that is willing to guarantee equipment. That doesn't include Best Buy, but the resellers that actually do their own installs. You won't be able to do things like BING cashback or some of the retailers gift card offers, but they may have something as good or better then some other deals.

That's what I could come up with...but I'm sure I missed something.

Hope this helps.

I ordered MRV and internet connection and specified the unit but none of it worked for me. I didn't refuse install. I figured there was some cancellation period and that I'd just call customer service and get it resovled. I just skipped over all of the BS and filed complaints with BBB and the FTC. Perhaps that will escalate it to someone who cares about customers, perhaps it won't. I doubt DirecTv cares much since they have an F rating already.

No guarantee? I ordered my install a couple of weeks ago (new customer, never had Direct TV before), and had the install this Monday. When ordering, I required a guarantee of an HR24 and H24, informing I would not permit the install with any other equipment versions. I was told it wasn't possible, so I then said I would buy the units on amazon and they could provide a credit. The CSR came back and made the guarantee. Then I required it be put in the notes. Then I required the contact info for the installers (contractors).

I called the installers the morning of the install, and they told me the truck didn't have HR24. I told them of the guarantee and instructed them to read the notes. They told me I might delay my install (by an hour or two) as they must run the equipment out to meet the truck - I had no issue with this.

The installer arrived on time anyway, with the HR24 and H24, and I'm good.

All I can say is politely require what you want in your call to order, document it in the notes, and call the installers day before or morning of install to confirm - and be prepared to delay your install if you don't get what you require.

EXACTLY! Well said! That's exactly my point and how it is done.
W
When I ordered online last week, I requested 2 HR24s & 1 H24 under 'notes to installer'. Install was scheduled for today 8AM -12 Noon.
Installer called 7:30AM today to tell me that the warehouse did not have the HR24/H24s so someone from his company will call to reschedule.
8:15 AM - a gentleman at Mastec called me to say the same thing and rescheduled for Wednesday 7/21/10 (8AM-12Noon). He confirmed that my work order has 2 HR24s and a H24 listed and so that is what I will get.
I am disappointed but OK to wait as long as I will get the HR24s.
So, looks like 'notes to the installer' works. Thanks to Jason for the tips.
I can confirm this after the install, hopefully, next Wednesday.

lmao.....bbb and ftc.....for what?? what policy was violated?

BTW. Spending 45 seconds filling out a BBB form resulted in the replacement of both units. Since a month has passed it'll result in an extra month on my contract but I can live with that. I think with the equipment I was expecting I'll actually be a generally satisfied customer of theirs for the next 2 years. The lag on the HR21 is unbearable.
P
I have my installation coming on Sunday morning. Thanks to reading this forum I will have the upper hand on a few things, one of them being requiring the HR24/H24 for installation. I did have the CSR put it in the request in the installation notes, but believe it or not she didn't even know what and HR24 was. After I told her what it was she assured me I would be receiving the newest and best updated technology :) :) (I feel better now).

I will still have my other service up and running when the installer comes to the door. If I don't get the 24's I will refuse installation. If I am going to pay a company to use their equipment, it is going to be the newest one that is for sure.
D
sounds like everyone's doing it right. Don't be polite about it. Insist on the unit you want. You're not obligated to anything until you sign that sheet after installation. I don't see the big deal about it really.

I set up a music server for my brother a few years ago. It's basically a small headless computer but it needs to have a DHCP IP address reserved for it in the router settings. This was easy to do in his DSL router. He's switching to Starlink now and I was wondering if these setting are easily accessible in the Starlink router. I'm pretty sure he will be getting the latest V5 router.

If you can't get into the router to reserve an IP address just don't use DHCP on the device that needs connected and assign it to a specific IP address in the network settings.

They are not. Your best bet is to set up a third-party router, attached to the Starlink for your server, that you can get into, like a Linksys, etc

The Starlink V5 Install Kit I just got comes with the Mini Router. It is pretty limited in what it can do. For example, it can provide only one IP subnet at a time, no Guest Network, but it does support the pass-thru to a third-party Router. You can also split the Wi-Fi into separate 5 GHz & 2.4 GHz SSIDs to help some IoT devices that don't support 5 GHz bands to work.

The larger Starlink Router that still comes with the V4 Kit does support a Guest Network with separate IPv4 Subnet, but it's $120 from Starlink. And it still won't do DHCP Reservations.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

IS Amiko MIRA 3 any good ???
Can you recommend the best to cover all bases. NO BEEPS on certain channels 101w (NEWSMAX ,NEWS NATION), a clock that keeps working STEADY for timed recording ,solid unit with good lifespan. My Amiko died AND my Linkbox has NO Favorites Button and BEEPS on many channels. Picking up 105 west with a NEW SHED IN THE Way with 6 foot Cband ..95 percent quality ...unbelievable.

That's great!

Many people have all sorts of power bricks laying around. Provided the plug fits, and it's the right polarity and same voltage and the same OR higher amps, why not try another one IF the device you want to try it on doesn't seem to work right.

Some people just call them power supplies (which really isn't a good fit in this case), some call them "wall adapters" but it's an external power supply or AC adapter that converts (AC) from a wall outlet into low-voltage (DC) that an electronic device needs to run.

[Give us a summary of what you receive with a 6-footer. I'm very curious.]

Right now on C band getting 105w, a Mexican channel with 95% quality and I am near Detroit! I'm recording a TECHNO MUSIC FESTIVAL today from Mexico ..if you can believe it.....and yes that SHED is partly in the path so I'm puzzled. There are also christian channels on 105w.

105W has some very strong transponders. I received more than four transponders using a 41-inch dish recently. See here.

Didn't see a thread like this so I figured why not start one. This is about natural supplements. If you aren't into supplements, fine, but please let those of us who do want to discuss this discuss it.

The first one I wanted to mention has been a real life changer. I'm 62 and still do all of my own install work at my business....also do all the yard work at the house. A few years ago I started noticing that I was losing my range of movement, it was even getting hard to bend over and lace up my boots. Almost got stuck in an attic because I couldn't get turned around once the work was done. Didn't think much of it and figured with age comes stiffness that was only going to get worse as time went on.
It was then that I stumbled across a video which was discussing rotator cuff tears and why they were to prevalent these days. Turns out, the culprit is a simple deficiency in MANGANESE which is key in keeping your tendons flexible. Most anti-biotics strip your body of any manganese it might have had which is why certain anti-biotics, especially those in the Cipro family. I actually knew a man who had two tendons tear while on that stuff.
Went to Amazon and ordered some manganese. Now it took a while, it wasn't instant, but gradually I have regained all of my flexibility. I can bend over and touch my toes while standing with no pain and putting on my boots is no longer a chore.
Pretty cheap too. The bottle I ordered was a 200 ct for under $13. They said to take double the normal dose for the first month because most people are severely lacking, then go to one a day.

Chia Seeds
Kinda the whole idea is to mention something and explain WHY it is something we might want to add to our daily routine.
This is what I got from google. Looks like I'm going to be adding them, thanks

Key Health Benefits
    • Digestive Health: One ounce (28 grams) of chia seeds provides nearly 10 grams of fiber, which promotes regular bowel movements, feeds beneficial gut bacteria, and helps prevent constipation. [1, 2]
    • Heart and Cardiovascular Support: Rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA)—an essential plant-based omega-3 fatty acid—chia seeds can help lower blood pressure, reduce triglycerides, and improve cholesterol profiles. [1, 2, 3]
    • Blood Sugar Regulation: The combination of soluble fiber and protein slows down carbohydrate digestion, preventing sharp blood sugar spikes after meals. [1, 2]
    • Weight Management: When soaked in liquid, chia seeds absorb up to 10 to 12 times their weight in water. The resulting gel expands in the stomach, increasing feelings of fullness and curbing appetite. [1, 2, 3]
    • Bone Strength: They contain high levels of calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus, which are vital for maintaining bone density. [1, 2, 3]
    • Antioxidant Protection: Compounds like chlorogenic acid and caffeic acid help fight cellular damage from free radicals and reduce chronic inflammation. [1, 2, 3]

I have taken this stuff for years to help my joints. Over 20 yrs ago my shoulder sounded like it had gravel in it when I rotated it. Started taking this and after a few months I had my range of motion back. I mentioned this product to a doctor and told him the results I had and he totally blew it off....said it was just a coincidence. This has no shellfish like most joint supplements.

Heres an article from the Akron Beacon ... seeing Six Flags has bought Cedar Point and Kings Island, they are included ...
I said earlier that Cedar Point doesn't use this type of seat restraint ... well, it does use it, But the difference is, the ones up here ALSO have the Over the shoulder restraint as well ... like I was suggesting that they should have used with the Goliath.

One of the new(er) one at Cedar point the Gate Keeper, uses the Clam shell .. I have rode it many times and have Mostly felt secure, that ride will stop you part way on the ride and you just hang, till the ride is ready to continue ... I typically ride the Front Car ... when its getting ready, you ARE hanging, in the car, looking down .... it would require 2 separate restraint systems to unlock at the same time to possibly get out of it.

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

Well, the bag can't weigh that much, right? But by law food product packaging must display the actual net weight of the product, i.e., the contents of the container, so by any logic, if not law, a store's stated per-ounce cost should reflect that figure. But since there's not any law regulating shelf statements, a store can say whatever it wants without violating any rules. So I guess the answer is more consumer legislation. Or simply caveat emptor.

I would think that the Vendor/Maker of the product would have a say in it, showing the Correct weight ...
You would think it would be in the contract.

I do look at the ounces of items, but unless its way off, I don't check the math, may have to start now.

Remember when you use to get a 13.5 oz bag of Chips .... Thats a PARTY Size now.

The larger discrepancies are likely from a data or sync issue. Digital tags don't cause the error, but they can spread one bad entry across a whole store or region instantly. The small cent differences are probably just rounding in the weight, the price data, or both.

It's simple math. You take the price and divide by the number of ounces and come up with the price per ounce. I find it hard to believe that Walmart's computers can't carry out simple division.

It's simple math. You take the price and divide by the number of ounces and come up with the price per ounce. I find it hard to believe that Walmart's computers can't carry out simple division.
The division isn't the problem, the inputs are. On the Starbucks pods, $9.22 @ $3.35/oz works out to 2.75 oz, but the box is 1.94 oz. So either the system has the wrong weight on file, or the unit price is left over from an older price of about $6.50 that never got updated. Garbage in, garbage out. Walmart's had unit-pricing data problems before, too - in 2024 they paid $1.64M to settle with New Jersey after inspectors found 2,000+ instances of unit prices using the wrong unit of measure.

THAT is most likely the culprit.

So....its intentional. The new fine needs to be a billion $...that would cause someone to fix the issue.

Most don't have any milk in them
*nit pick* You want cream or more precisely FAT to make ice cream. Milk isn't heavy enough. When making my own, I use half and half.

Wrong unit of measure? Having a hard time believing that or were they conflating solid and fluid ounces (stupid US measuring system).

The first two coffees aren't off on the same amount, so likely the unit price is linked to some previous price. Now I have to *bleeping* double check more math? Does anyone check anything anymore? Bad enough in the professional world having to QA/QC a third party's work. Don't want to have to do that in the grocery store now too! Not with the absurd measures that are used in the US. Is that unit price for blueberries in ounces or pints...

First world problems, but man... argh!!!

You always have the option of moving to a country that uses a unit of measurement that better suits your needs.

Thought this might be a nice diversion, this same guy audited Publix's package weight....yes, I know this is different from the original post on this thread.....and it was accurate.

Love this guy's channel. Looks like Walmart has thrown in the towel when it comes to conventional car batteries.

I bought a new AGM battery from Walmart about a year ago, it is already needing replacing. I thought about just buying a regular battery but from what I've read, that might not be a smart move. Might check my Forscan program and see if I can change the battery type from AGM.
