I see that DIRECTV now offers a "Whole Home-DVR Service" that connects all of the HD receivers in the house to a HD DVR receiver so you can watch HD recorded shows off the central DVR at other locations. You can even add a second DVR to add the possibilities.

I know that Dish has a lot wrapped up in the 922 but does anyone know if Dish has any plans to upgrade their receivers so their customers can do the same thing as the Direct receivers?

I hope their working on it dish is the only major provider that does not offer it.
Comcast is rolling it out now and att had it from the start the direct tv seems the best because you can use more than 1 dvr .
It would be great if my two 722 could share hd recordings.

Don't see the benefit here at least for me. I am a handy person, and right now I can watch any DVR in any room. If I wanted to hook it up that way. Also With 2 722k receivers with OTA modular. I can record 4 sat programs and 4 OTA programs at the same time. And be watching recorded shows at that same time, for a total of 10. Yes over kill but with 2 teenagers and a wife, makes it easy for me to get what I want. Dish will do something as soon as it is precieved as a costumer retention thingy. As well as a get new costumer thingy. And not just something to put in a ad. We shall see.:D

So you can watch hd from your two dvr in any room ?
did you run Component and audio cables to all of your tvs or how did you do it?

How does Direct do it? How do they get "up to 15" tv's on one DVR? I've not seen technically how they do it? Is it wireless and does it require multiple boxes?

I'm curious if the Directv multi room viewing feature allows you to watch something Different in each room or if you watch the SAME thing in each room. Kind of like ATT does with the uverse tv: stop in one room , pick it up in the next.
ScottChez
You can watch different recordings from each room and watch something else on the DVR its self.

As an added bonus all HD contect plays in HD on all boxes, compared to the DIsh TV2 out which down converts to SD. I bet the 922 can do this also someday.

This is very appealing, specially when one has a wife.
So if you would, answer me this. In my situation right now I have my HD TV in the TV room w/722k. In our son's room he has a SD TV using tuner 2. Now here's where my problem comes in...When I'm recording one of my programs on tuner 1, my wife will bi, uh I mean complain that she can't watch her program 'cause of my recording. If I set the 722k to record using both tuners, our (24yo) son complains that he can't watch his program, which gets my wife to bit, uh complaining again about "this recording thing I'm always doing!"
Could D* MRV bring peace to my household?
Thanks,
Ghpr13:(

As would adding a 211k for $7 per month plus $40 to turn it into a DVR. It'd be worth it to not have to listen to the complaining imo. Even with D*s MRV and one DVR, you are still going to have only two satellite tuners available plus have at least another receiver.

Could D* MRV bring peace to my household?
In that DIRECTV's Whole Home DVR Service demands that every served TV have its own HD satellite receiver or DVR, yes.
stonecold
Leave it to the Dish forum to get all crazy over a simple DTV feature.

Here are the numbers
DVR Service Fee : $7 ( per account not per box)
Whole Home Fee : $3 ( per account not per box)
HD Fee : 0 Free just like DN
Whole home upgrade fee (for existing customers ) : 99
New customers : 25 dollars ( less to upgrade)
Box fees no mater what type of box: $5

Limitations
Cant diplex OTA on same cabling DECA modules are installed on ... But not many people have ota so it has not come up yet.
navychop
Isn't it a 6 satellite tuner lease maximum, not a 3 box maximum?
Liquidforce88
Ok costs. You can only get 1 HDDVR and 1 HD free as a new customer. If you have 3 or more tv's that you want MRV gotta pay 99 each for them. Plus 3 dollor more for the MRV.

Limitations as stated above only one remote IRD can access the DVR at a time. The remote IRD's have no DVR capabil. Plus is that they are HD. With Dish you can DVR at either location.

Over the past few weeks, I have had problems connecting to streaming services (Netflix, HBO et al). When I go to the TV's native Channels, I have no problem. The Dish internet troubleshooter shows I have a good internet connection. I'm wondering whether it's an issue with my internet provider or a problem with the Dish software on the Hopper Plus. Anyone else seeing this?

I have a DISH Hopper 3 (Software H713) with Hopper Plus (Software P15403). I have not tried streaming services but I primarily watch TVB Jadeworld international package which is only available by streaming and when I have an issue, I usually have to go to a non-streaming satellite channel first before the streaming channels will work again. What software versions do you have and what is the error message if any are showing on your screen? or is that Dish downloading logo just stuck and never finishes?

Personally, I tend to be the type that drives a vehicle for a lot of years....do my own oil changes and other fluid changes. Just replaced the spark plugs and a couple coils. Youtube is great for things like this.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Lately my eight year old Dell laptop has been shutting off even when I have a full battery. I have had to keep it plugged up all the time to keep this from happening. Any idea what is causing this? I replaced the battery about three years ago.

A recalibration might be needed. Even if it shows full, the individual cells may have become unbalaced. And the BMS chip in the battery reports false information to the pc.
Try this. Start it up in the bios/uefi and leave it there until the battery dies and it shuts off.
It might just keep running longer than in Windows. Or run for a short while and shut off.
If it's the first case. Probably just needs a balancing. If the latter, the pack might just be dead.
Not throwing stones but perhaps just a cheaply constructed battery with substandard cells. Could be.

Patience. Keep restarting it in bios/uefi until it won't fire up anymore.
Then plug the charger in and let it complete a full charge. And see what happens. If it's better.
Do the same thing one more time. Run it until it dies dead-dead. Then just let it charge, pc shut off.
When charged, it might be better. It might not be.

There are bench jigs that read the actual BMS and override it to let a tech manually monitor and charge the separate packs. They can also reset any "time bombs" in it that cause an otherwise good pack to show bad.
Maybe Santa will be good to me some year.

You might just need a new battery. Maybe the PC power management chip is going. A Dell common thing.
Leaving a laptop plugged in with a full battery is known to reduce the life. Asus for one recommends that you don't leave the charger plugged in all of the time even when shut down. And setting Windows to charge the battery to 85% instead of 100% increases life.
That's all I got.

I set up a music server for my brother a few years ago. It's basically a small headless computer but it needs to have a DHCP IP address reserved for it in the router settings. This was easy to do in his DSL router. He's switching to Starlink now and I was wondering if these setting are easily accessible in the Starlink router. I'm pretty sure he will be getting the latest V5 router.

If you can't get into the router to reserve an IP address just don't use DHCP on the device that needs connected and assign it to a specific IP address in the network settings.

They are not. Your best bet is to set up a third-party router, attached to the Starlink for your server, that you can get into, like a Linksys, etc

The Starlink V5 Install Kit I just got comes with the Mini Router. It is pretty limited in what it can do. For example, it can provide only one IP subnet at a time, no Guest Network, but it does support the pass-thru to a third-party Router. You can also split the Wi-Fi into separate 5 GHz & 2.4 GHz SSIDs to help some IoT devices that don't support 5 GHz bands to work.

The larger Starlink Router that still comes with the V4 Kit does support a Guest Network with separate IPv4 Subnet, but it's $120 from Starlink. And it still won't do DHCP Reservations.
harshness
If you can restrict the DHCP address space to assign addresses to one end of the subnet (i.e. x.x.x.50+), you can manually assign the IP address on pretty much any operating system. This is a default behavior on several popular routers. As the Router Mini only supports 235 devices, I expect that's already done.

Another option is to use a router that supports PoE to power the antenna. This article discusses that option (under PoE Power heading):

Now that I've had the v5 kit with the Mini Router, it's not as bad as I first thought. Yes, no DHCP reservations, but you can set up multiple SSIDs that have separate IPv4 subnets, and like the big brother, you can select from 192.168.x.0/24 or 10.x.0.0/16 (where "x" is 1-4).

You can also split a subnet and have different SSIDs for the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz channels to handle some IoT devices. I haven't discovered what subnet the 2nd NIC on the router assigns, I'm guessing it's the first subnet.
