Hi people

I have been emailing the executive offices of Dish Network for a responce on when we here in Puerto Rico/USVI will be seeing a complete HD channel lineup as the rest of the nation. And finaly I got a responce from an executive at the Executive Communication Department. Aparently by this initial responce they are not planing on doing anything for us for a long time to come. You can see the emails at the bottom of the post. Remember we are paying the same amount of money but not receiving the same service as the rest of the nation. As a paying costumer I expect one of two things, that they make the necesary technical changes for this to happen in a promtly time frame, (Not at some time on the future or some bogus time frame), or give us a credit for the missing service that we are not reciving until the matter is resolved. Now they have no excuse not to work this out since they have a new satellite with excelent covereage for Purto Rico and USVI. Besides making the necesary technical changes to define ark's (Eastern and Western) they have to take into consideration us here. They can not keep making plans and living us out, they have to equate the service for all paying costumers and then go ahead with any other matters. Remember we are not getting this for free, that is only a promotional gimick. Dish has only increase the prices for the service in the last six months for every thing else. Free HD don't think so. Do the math and see if you are paying less.
Well any how this is the responce to my email and my reponce back and let's see if something comes out of this. I strongly suggest any Puerto Rico/USVI costumers to write an email and keep writing until they make some changes. I know I will. Any comments or suggestions will be apreciated.

Hello Ms. Romero
Thank you for your promt responce. I apreciate your service.
I have to confes that I was not waiting for a responce, so I am very happy that Dish takes the time to hear it's costumers concerns. Any way I understand the technical matters that affect us here on the island but I was realy hoping that Dish Network had a plan for us here with this new satellite Echostar 15. I would like to know if Dish has any other plans to expand the HD service here in Puerto Rico in a resonable amount of time by any other means? Maybe through spotbeams on 110 and 119 or giving us some space on this new satellite at 61.5. I am very proud of Dish for being the first to provide HD service here on the island but now cable companies are piking up the pase and adding new channels every day. Now my local cable company has more HD's than Dish and to be sincere I am jealous of their costumers now. I will not leave Dish for this only matter because this is not the only reason for being with you guys and I am very happy with the service, but please take us in consideration as soon as posible with this HD matter. Remember that from the costumers point of view we are still paying the same amount of money as the rest of the nation but not getting the same service. I know we in Puerto Rico are not your only concern and that we may be one of many other matters to attend but please take us into consideration the sooner the better because we have been patieance and loyal costumers. Thank you again and as always expeting great things of Dish Network. Go Dish !!!!!

RE: HD Channels for Puerto Rico, URGENT

Richard,

Thank you for your email. We appreciate your feedback.

While we fully understand and appreciate your concerns, I am afraid we cannot provide you with a favorable solution. All HD channels on 61.5 will be migrated to 72.7 which Puerto Rico/Virgin Islands does not receive adequate signal. The company's purpose in doing this is to have two defined arcs, Eastern Arc and Western Arc. If anything changes in regards to the migration I will notify you directly.

We appreciate you taking the time to contact us with your concerns. If you have any additional questions or would like to discuss this matter further. Please contact me.

Angeline Romero

Subject: HD Channels for Puerto Rico, URGENT

Hello Mr Ergen
Is of great pleasure to be a costumer of Dish Network here in Puerto Rico. And up until now I have been very happy with the service. But just recently your company has launched and put into service Echostar 15 and finaly I thought that we in PR were getting all the HD channels that the rest of the CONUS accounts get, but from the news coming out to dealers in the US I have learned that this is not going to be. How come, that now that we have great covereage form that location "61.5", and I can give testament of this claim because all my transonders are measuring more that 75% of signal strenght, your company has decided to move all HD's to 72.7 wish we in PR don't have any signal what so ever. For years we have been patience and paid the same as CONUS costoumers for less service, because of coverage conserns, but now there is no excuse to exclude us in PR from the 200 plus HD channels that Dish promotes all over. We here are limited to only 41 HD core programing channels, this excludes pay per view and VOD, wish all come of spotbeams on sats 110 and 119 and still pay the same exact amount of money as the rest of the nation. The other thing is that we are also limited on getting platinum HD service, it is not allowed for us here in PR. I confese to you that until June of this year 2010 I was subscribed to Platinum and the rest of the HD channels that came from 61.5 with a big 6' foot Dish and this thanks to a helpful employee of yours in the executive offices. But then this was taken off of my account for no reason at all, just because I recide in PR. Apparently Dish does not whant my money because I prove to them that I had this service for the last 2 years with great signal thanks to my 6 foot antenna. Now that Echostar 15 is transmiting strong to PR and you can get the signal with a 30" inch antenna Dish is still not letting PR accounts recive the rest of the HD channels and the Platinum HD's. Now Echostar 15 has the signal and capacity to service PR with all the HD channels and more and no acction has been taken to service us here.,
For this reasons explained above and the posibility of Dish making more money here in PR with the addition of the HD service in FULL not limited to 41 and no Platinum I ask for your intervention in this mater and give us back the ability to subscribe to Platinum and give us the rest off the HD programing on 61.5 Echostar 15 spot. I know Dish has its plans with eastern arq but we here in PR don't get reception from the 72.7 slot so please reconsider your plans for us loyal coustumers here in Puerto Rico. I know you may not have a lot of time for answering emails to coustomers but I would greatly appresiate if you at least intervine on this matter. Seeing your comercials of when you were starting the company carring does big dishes has to relate to our position here on the island with our big dishes setups on our homes just to get the great programming of Dish Network. Now we can have the signal with a small antenna but still no equality of service for us. So please go get us our HD service as soon as posible and we will continue beeing the great loyal coutomers for years to come. Great company and great service. GO DISH!!!!!!

Very few. To get programming on 61.5 you must have a newer Dish receiver to get the new codecs. If you do, it will also get anything on 110/119 with the older codecs.
If you have an older receiver, you will just get programming on 110/119.

Then, 61.5 is on the Eastern ARC, 119/110 is on the Western ARC. Meaning, there won't be duplicates on 110/119 because what would be the point. However 61.5 is for those who do not get 110/119 (or129) so will probably have some of the same channels 110/119 has.

Then, what is in HD on 110/119 appears to be mostly on spotbeam, meaning you will never get that signal, it is meant for HI or AK.

And then it depends on what package you have.

I'm going to say, depending on what package you have around 20 tops with most being on 61.5. More if you get the Blockbuster package add on (originally called the Platinum Package) as they seem to be on those satellites, and few more if you get a movie package as some of those appear to be on those satellites.
elmafu69
What extra hd channels if any would I get if I add 61.5?
Tampa8
Looking at the list, several. If you go to the top of this page, pick DishChannelChart you can see what is on each satellite. Don't forget anything that says spotbeam you will not get even if your package includes it. It has to be Conus.
L
As far as I know, this is the list right now:
A&E, APL, BBCA, BET, BRAVO, CMDY, CNBC, CNN, DISC, E!, ESPN, ESPN2, FOOD, FSC, FX, GOLF, HDNET, HGTV, HIST, LIFE, MSNBC, MTV, NBATV, NFL, NICK, NTGEO, OWN, SYFY, SPEED, SPIKE, TBS, TENIS, TLC, TNT, TOON, TRV, TWC, USA, VH1, WGN, HBO-E, MAX-E, SHO, TMC, ENCORE, STARZ, STARZ-P, SEDGE, Telemundo, WAPA, Univision.

There are some that also receive: VLCTY, CTRC, CI, HDNMV, LOGO, MAVTV, MGM, PLDIA, UNIHD, INDIE, RETRO, EPIX1, EPIX2, SMC, PIXL. I think this are part of the late Platinum Package, but I don't know if they will be available in the future
Tampa8
Yes that is pretty much the list. Just keep in mind you do not get ALL those unless you subscribe to the packages that contain them. For instance you have HBO SHO TMC ECNCORE etc etc in that list. That would require subscribing to ALL the movie packages. And some others are not part of any regular package either.

There is no more Platinum package, it is the Blockbuster package. And yes at the moment if you subscribe to that ($10) you get those channels which are on satellites available to be seen in PR. No guarantee they will stay there of course. This is a very good package, you also can stream movies and at least in the US can get free movie rentals.

I know HipKat said that they were working on conversions but we got the official news yesterday right from Dish that starting next month all DMA's will be on the western arc, and all customers will be assigned to that. That's gonna mean a lot of customers around here aren't gonna get Dish unless there are exceptions. Too many mountains and trees.

I don't know why DISH doesn't just start a streaming version of DISH and then if you can't see the western arc you go with streaming versions and then they could keep customers if they had good internet speeds. I mean Sling TV could be changed to Streaming DISH TV if they wanted since both companies are under Echostar. Then you would still be able to use your ota antenna with Air TV devices like I do with Air TV Anywhere with 4 ota tuners.

Dish Anywhere has gotten a lot better but still has no Pause/Play/Skip Trick Play controls on the national channels that stream from Dish and that don't come from you Hopper. DirecTV Stream doesn't have that limitation.

And the same reason why DISH removing satellite 118 for international channels is a bad idea as at least in my case, TVB Jade World costs $29.99/month and depends on a internet connection for the signal transport to the DISH Hopper 3 + Hopper Plus to stream the channel which makes it unavailable on DISH Anywhere and also I am providing the transport pipe at my own expense when it was supposed to be a dedicated connection via satellite between DISH and the DISH equipment.

If you ponied up for an iPhone Duo, keep it away from anything other than your soft, fleshy fingertips. No fingernails, no dust, sand, dirt, or other particulate matter. And don't bend it more than it needs to. Zack has destroyed $2,000 of Apple hardware to get those views, which should cover his expenses.

IFixIt has published their Teardown and they had some positive things to say about the iPhone Duo. It still showed some dust ingress into the hinge assembly but seemed otherwise well-sealed.

But with a considerable number of reports of the main screen dying with similar failures, AppleCare+ should be a no-brainer for this phone.

I'm thinking of switching to DirecTV and wanted to know what equipment I should be asking for.

I'm wanting wired satellite due to that fact that I live in the sticks and there is no reliable, decent speed internet for streaming available.

What would be the correct equipment for three 4K tvs in the house?

Why do you think you can't get StarLink?

If they are requiring all clients on a new HS17 install to be wireless, that is not a technical requirement. It saves their techs from having to pull coax all over the house. It makes installations cheaper.
Jimbo
The DirecTV order entry work flow doesn't allow wired clients with an HS17. Does that clear it up for you?
Yet the C61k (4k unit) was wired only ?
That was the only unit available for the HS17 if you wanted 4K

How does that work ?

Or do I havwe that flip flopped ?
It's been awhile for me now.

I think Dish might be the only service that still wires houses. The cable company has gone wireless, Verizon is switching all their copper line customers to wireless, DirecTV Stream, even most surveillance and alarm systems are going wireless.

Yes mine was wired years ago. However you can still order satellite service with wired receivers on the DIRECTV website. I guess you cannot if you call to order the service.

It's not a poor design when you factor in that it has a Wireless Video Bridge built-in. It's shaped like a router or gateway for a reason.

We're a DirecTV retailer and there is no where in the order entry flow to have wired clients with an HS17. I heard that when it's ordered on the website the installer shows up with only HS17's and wireless clients. I don't know how reliable that info is as it came from a dubious source but it makes sense.

Well, different strokes and all that. I've had that HS17 sitting quietly doing its job for almost a decade. As I mentioned earlier, at one point I had two wired and two wireless receivers. Now, just one C61K.

Even before that I had a HR44 with an HR24 and two wireless minis. Back then, which was years ago, I would have agreed with the need for individual receivers, but at this point, I stream almost everything, including shows I used to record.

It'll be moot soon enough anyway. Wired receivers/DVRs are going the way of the POTS landline. You can't stop progress.

I am a animal lover, but this year I gave up gardening. Even moved it to potted plants on the second story deck last year. Can't tell you how much use my Ruger 10-22 got, but it was a losing battle for me. Never got any food. So now they eat coax instead! 20 acres of dense woods behind me and my stuff tastes better, either veggies or wires!

Last year they ate through my times microwave LMR400 for my CB! had to cut it back and put male and female connectors on it. So much for having a pristine run of LMR400.

The playoff told us rankings are pointless. Lesser ranked teams were winning playoff games. Ranking the top 24? Rank it the same way as normal. It'll consist of at least four or five of each cartel's teams, other conference winners. The field will be fine, the sorting will be problematic and arbitrary, but in the end does it matter?

It'll matter when OSU or Alabama have to face a decent upstart squad due to being ranked midway in the listing, or goodness help us, each other. But thanks to arbitrary rankings, that should be easily avoided by design. Then the cartels will need to fix the rankings a bit so the top dogs can have a bye or three to help prevent those untimely eliminations from the playoff.

For better or worse, NIL and the transfer portal have evened the field. NCAA will be pretty much like the NFL with records being kind of meaningless and anyone can make a run and win it all.

As for meeting each other, you say they automatically avoid ... not really, if I recall, when Ohio State won in 2 years ago, they had the toughest route to win it all .... they played Tennessee, then it was the #1 team Oregon, in round 2 then Texas in round 3 then Notre Dame in the Finals .... thats hardly avoiding the tough match ups.

Personally, I don't want to see 42- 10 blowouts in the first 2 rounds ....

Not sure where you found lesser teams beating higher ranked teams ... (outside of the Top teams, which any could beat each other (1-8).

Which in my opinion is where the Playoffs should be teams 1-8 .
Team number 64 has ZERO chance to win 4-5 games against top teams.

Btw, whens the last time a (in basketball) 32-64 ranked team WON it all, or even got to the Final 2 ?????

I'll wait.
Y
You mean other than Miami being in the final last year... and Indiana being the only bye team to win a game?
Ronnie-
I see alot saying nobody is good because several have a loss or two. I disagree. I think more teams are good now, and even.

Its made for some more competitive games imo.
Ronnie-

The NIL and tranfer portal definitely need some work, or guidelines, but it has evened stuff out somewhat.

Even the expanded playoff. While it does make a single regular season game less relevant in the overall picture, its added a different level of interest imo. Losing a game, or two even, doesnt mean your season is over. The teams still have ALOT to play for.

I am not as against this (as a whole that still needs tweaking) as I thought I would be. More competitive football, I think that is a good thing.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....
