BYU defects; MWC tries to regroup - SignOnSanDiego.com

"Brigham Young University will leave the Mountain West Conference in 2011 to turn independent in football and join the West Coast Conference in others sports, BYU and the WCC announced Tuesday.

The departure of BYU is considered a harmful blow to the MWC, just two months after another prized member, the University of Utah, announced plans to leave the MWC for the Pac-10. Without those two programs, the MWC will have 10 committed future members, including San Diego State and newcomers Boise State, Fresno State and Nevada.

To boost its future options, the MWC plans to continue to explore partnerships with Conference USA and take talks with that league "to the next level," according to a memo obtained by The San Diego Union-Tribune. ..."

IMHO,

- The question that nobody has answered is that bowls in the modern era have a very detailed system below the BcS. X Bowl gets Conf Y #3 vs. Conf Z #5. UND has a special deal with the Leastleftovers. Esentually it gets to "steal" whatever spot it would have finished in if it does not make the BcS. This helps UND, and it helps (some might say preserves) the Leastleftover's bowl deals, since UND has more fans than any Leastleftover. But, who is going to make such a deal with BYU? BYU already has issues with bowls because of the social morals of its fan base. Short of a deal, a 11-1 BYU could end up in the "pool" of teams picking up spots unfillable by the mega-confs, in the Eagle Bank Bowl and crap like that.

- The smart move for the MWC is to get full at 12. Pick up Hawaii and then make a geographically logical deal with CUSA to pick up some teams, with CUSA picking up some teams out of the Sun Belt. Then morph the MTN network into a joint CUSA-MWC network and then demand a deal where the best team from those 24 get a BcS slot.

- Texas A&M sold its soul for non-existant money. The Greatest Conference in the History of the World is not going to ever offer them a slot again.

The MTN is part of the problem and essentially why BYU is gone.

All the Northwestern's of the world, win's the conference once a decade, are going to go by the way side. No way in hell they can compete with the influx of talent and powerhouse teams added to the conference.

Careful what you wish for.

The divide will be greater and much more out of reach then it is now.
When was the last time Vanderbilt or Kentucky won the SEC?

The reality is that nothing changes for the haves and the have nots. The difference is it will get harder to possibly run the table. Look at how many times the Big XII had one of those conference game upsets.

I also have to point out what "powerhouses" would be added elsewhere? The BigTen picked up Nebraska, and no offense, they haven't exactly been barnburners. The Pac10 picked up Utah and Colorado, and it will still be a while before either can win the conference in football.

The reality is no one is adding a powerhouse. Not yet anyway...

Well I guess Northwestern is a step ahead of the Vanderbilts and Kentucky's of the world.

And if you notice I did say talent and powerhouses. So pick and choose my words as you like, but don't expect me to half explain myself, when I wholly meant the post.

Nebraska sure isn't a powerhouse. What are they then? According to the Preseason Polls (LOL) they are #10. Sounds pretty good to me.

Like you and the Big Ten, I could care less about the SEC. I mean, I get the SEC is god and anyone is, is just that: anyone else.

But Really? How does the SEC have any relevance to this conversation?

When it comes to the big ten, a conference that actually is changing, i think a lot changes for the have and haves nots. The have nots, will never have again, instead of having something once a decade or so.

1991.

Penn State added to the Big Ten, to become 11 schools.

Northwestern football wins title a couple of years later.

2010.

Nebraska added to the Big Ten, to become 12 schools.

And between those two time periods, a couple of schools won the majority of those titles, while quite few haven't won a title at all.

I suppose one can go back to 1990, and see there are ten schools in the Big Ten, and in a couple of years, there will be sixteen. I recall that the laws of probability would state on average that a school would win once every sixteen years, and then if said school is horrible (ahem Indiana ahem) then it becomes longer and longer. :)

The SEC handed out invites to Oklahoma and Texas A&M when the BigXII was close to oblivion, right before the 'horns decided to keep the conference together.

So we know everyone (except for maybe the BigXII) is ready to pounce/poach.

The Mtn. is on Comcast systems in MWC states. As for BYU getting a raw TV deal, four home games on national TV - 3 on ESPN/ABC and 1 on ESPNU - plus I bet half of the road games will be on national TV as well.

When walmart set a price...they weigh the container and the product...the product label only shows the weight of the product...I am sure if you brought your own plastic baggies to bring the product home you could get the cheaper price

I've been seeing this more and more on Amazon. Sometimes it seems there is no way they could have arrived at the number.

What rankles me even more is Costco changing units of measure between similar products, so you have to convert them to compare prices.

Then they are stupid. Everyone knows that the price per ounce should be the price per ounce of actual product.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

It turns out I was justified in my suspicion.

Gavin Newsom somehow authorized the temporary move of the distribution date of the Winter blend to September 28th.

Does that raise, or lower, the overall price? Our State Government has been doing everything it can to minimize the impact of the current situation and put a freeze on the State Taxes on fuel sales at the pump. That's why we're still under $4.00/gal. while across the border in Michigan it's much higher.

Winter blend is reportedly 10-30 cents cheaper, but I would point out that prices have dropped as much as 62 cents at RP.

Every time my Dish contract comes up I weigh the options of keeping Dish or switch to streaming. Right now I can watch/record the OTA channels vis my HDHomerun. I also can stream CBS and NBC via the Paramount+ and Peacock apps. What I would need to find is how to watch the Food Network, HGTV, Syfy, USA, Hallmark channels, Great American Family, Lifetime channels plus a few more with an app or two. My current Dish bill is $118, so I should be able to get a few apps for a lot less.

Any suggestions? I would want the best picture quality and audio quality I could get.

For some reason, the satelliteguys.us site is loading a lot slower than usual on both Chrome on my Asus laptop and Safari on my iPhone.
I'm also seeing longer appearances of the blue bar at the top and the "3 blue bars" loading symbol.
Is anyone else also having the same problem? Thanks in advance.

Ok checked it out and for some reason the web server (NGINX) tried starting before the DNS resolver fully loaded. This is why it worked when I rebooted the machine.

Thanks to ChatGPT it had me change the NGINX config to prevent this from happening again.

With that said I can't prevent the ISP from doing emergency upgrades which was the cause of all of this.

Now on PHP 8.4.27 (cli) (built: Oct 20 2026 00:00:00)

So even though DAZN keeps touting 'only way to see games' if you are a subscriber to Choice (like my stepdad) if an agreement is reached he can see the Wolfies on 668?
I know the Wild are in dispute and a slate is on 668-1.
