C-Band Dish Signal Angles

Can someone explain to me how a C-Band Dish/LNB (Prime Focus) receives a satellite signal as compared to a KU Band offset Dish/LNB. I'm contemplating on taking advantage of the $69.99 C-Band Sale by Robbie from WSI and I have limited space. Understanding the C-band reception process will help me decide. Any diagrams or illustrations will be highly appreciated.

parabolic reflectors

From my understanding of prime focus reflectors, the focus point is along the central axis line of the paraboloid. A plane perpendicular to the axis of the paraboloid defines the shape.

The shape of offset reflectors are defined by a plane to an angle of 22 to 27 degrees to the axis line of a paraboloid. The focal point is still along the central axis of the paraboloid.

Here are some diagrams, pdf & .doc files to help illustrate these 2 types.
It's not a lot of info, but it's a start.

one green guys opinion:

The Geo-Orbit site may have more detailed info than you want.
But, if you would scan through the pictures on its three or four pages, then read the relevant text, I think it might be helpful.
It's where I got my initial understanding of BUDs.

The declination is not as big a deal as you might think, so don't let that scare you off.

Lastly, let me put in a plug for the DMX242 dual-output LNBF.
The two independent outputs will come in handy eventually, and I'd never get locked into a single again.
Likewise, the dual-band LNBFs are hard to aim for Ku; most of us are better off with a separate 1m Ku dish.

Let's assume there is a slight LOS issues, how will the Prime focus perform in relation to an offset dish?

There must be direct line of site without obstruction. No difference as both dish types receive the satellite signal from the same point in the sky.

Thanks, Anole! I just got the DMX 242 about 3 weeks ago, plus I have GEOSATpro C2 ,which I'm currently using on my Mini-BUD, and I know what you mean by having the dual independent output present in any LNBf. They're great. I also have the Single DMX741U C/KU combo. I believe you know how that fares with KU signal without user Modification.

Well, I have a bunch of C2's myself, but from what I can tell, both they and the 242 work very well. - :up
And I'm just a strong supporter of having two outputs...
... if not for two receivers, then for that multiswitch you'll eventually want to hook to it! -

(and for whatever small price difference over single output, why bother?)

What the dish can see is what it can see.
The difference is the prime focus dish will -appear- to be aimed about 25° higher than a similar offset, but both will actually -see- the same bird.

Has anyone noticed an FF stutter with 713? I used to be able to hit FF a few times and skip smoothly. After 713 (maybe 712), when I skip forward, there is a definite stutter for as many times as I have pressed FF.

Can anyone check on this and report back? Recorded programs and then press skip forward a few times to see if it's smooth? Normally, it just jumps to the right place after the skips.

I'm getting fabulous picture on Ch. 148 4k, but zero audio with H713. This is with a recorded show (Notre Dame game). Anyone else have this? Audio is fine on every other channel.

My wife mentioned that her remote is acting strange this morning. She hit FF and it went to 15x FF.

This has been an ongoing issue. A fix is coming, probably in the next software version.

Dish Hopper and Dish Hopper Plus No Alexa in settings

I have Dish Hopper and Hopper Plus and also have Alexa Echo. I link the Alex skill to Dish and it asks me to enter the pairing code shown on the TV. I go into Dish Settings and there is no Alexa shown. Not sure what to do.

Guys,
Android is Google. Google is Android. Android OS and Google TV are the same thing.
The Hopper+ and Joey 4's run Android TV, which is Google's television version of Android.
That means under the hood, you have:

Linux kernel
Android framework
Google TV / Android TV interface
Google Play Store for TV apps

Alexa is the competition. Google is not going to host their competition.
The old Hopper Carbon UI is NOT Google so that's why Alexa was on there.

Understood. But here's the rub - Google Assistant setup is ALSO missing from the Hopper Plus setup. I'm a paraplegic.and need to use voice controls as much as possible but I can't press a button on the remote to activate Google Assistant. I prefer ALEXA (or ALEXA+) but I have one older google device and will go that route IF they make it available. BTW calling Dish Customer Service is no help- they just say they have no info on if/when there will be an update.

Season 2 order already in hand:

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

Paramount lost a number of the Star Trek creative crew to other projects, like Ron Moore going on to BSG and "For All Mankind". I see Denise and Michael Okuda are also involved with FAM.

Here i am over a year later and just finished season 1. Not great but not as bad as I was expecting. Did not care for the barefoot captain stuff but overall ok. Actually looking forward to see what they did for season 2.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

There would still be dirt ,dust in the future I am sure. So walking around the station like she did she would get stuff on her feet. I am sure the robot vacuum is still going to miss stuff, with all those different alien species running around there.

Agreed, it mostly regurgitates known solutions. That's the point. Nobody needs an innovative fix for a driver error or a creative way to format a report. Let it handle the solved problems so people can spend their time on the ones that aren't.

Addressed by what you didn't quote. This cycle is as old as computing: compilers, libraries, frameworks each automated the tedious part, and the human work moved up a level. Innovation didn't end; it shifted. And people still make new compilers, libraries or frameworks.

Nobody's forced to hand anything off. Anyone who wants to keep doing it by hand still can, and people who couldn't do it at all now can.

There are many examples in the headlines of people getting burned multiple times and not wavering in their pursuit of stupidity.

Been reading this thread but not commenting much, primarily because there is so much "news" out there on this topic and it is hard to tell what is real and what is theater.
My biggest problem with AI is that these agents are taught...not necessarily programmed but taught. Well, there's an old saying "garbage in/garbage out". I remember a Joe Rogan show a while back when he had Elon Musk on and they talked about AI and Elon said one of the AIs (can't remember which one, sorry) was asked which was worse, Thermonuclear War or mis-gendering Kaitlyn Jenner and it came back with the answer that mis-gendering was worse. Now forget the politics involved with all the gender stuff we have been subjected to the past few years.....to say that mis-gendering is worse than the killing of hundreds of millions, perhaps billions of human beings.....Kaitlyn Jenner included.....is simply insane not to mention incredibly dangerous.
