Need a little help. Here's what I have. I have two HDTV. I would like 2 HDDVR. I would subscribe to the everything package and would like all HD available channels. I also like how one cable come inside my apartment from the dish to the splitter where only one cable goes to each receiver from there on my current set up. Is dish able to provide same install? If you need more info I can provide.

Thanks

It does look like you have some options.

Your right, I just want to make sure that I can run one line from dish into apartment which will connect to splitter. Then One line to each receiver with dual tuner capable. Is the way It running right now with Swm DTV. I don't want extra cable in. I have enough already. :-D

Yes, and that is why I cautioned you above. DirecTV SWM technology is superior to Dish's, because with Dish's gear you can't split the coax coming form the dish to go to multiple receivers. Dish dual tuner receivers can operate off a single coax to both tuners, but what you are doing now with DirecTV cannot be done with Dish. Two receivers, two coaxes. Sorry!

One wonders why this is a problem? Your Dish installer will put up their own dish and run two cables all the way from dish to receivers.

Will it be two cable to each receiver or 1 to each receiver from dish which will it allow dual tuner capability?

Edit: Sorry I read your post a couple of more times. Now i understand one cable to each receiver from dish and it will be to 2 dual tuner receivers. I kinda though for a moment i would need 4 line from the dish. Two to each receiver to have dual tuner.

Exactly; one coax to each receiver. You could put a DPP44 switch in the mix (inside your apartment) and drive 4 dual-tuner receivers. But that would aggravate the coax-from-dish problem since then you would need 3 (one for each orbital location) cables going to the DPP44!

I still don't see why two cables is a problem. I have 6 gray cables from two dishes and an OTA antenna doing a short dive into my attic. ;)

It not a problem, it's just the whole idea of another cable coming from the dish into my apartment but I can be OK with it. Hey do you know what satellite type tech would install with this set up we've been talking about? Also would the tech take out my DTV dish and install it in the same place or is it my job to take it down?

Darn good question. I think most if not all of Pennsylvania is on Dish's Eastern Arc, so they would install an EA dish 1000.4 with an EA LNB/switch assembly. I have one of these feeding 3 dual-tuner DVR receivers directly, with no intervening switches. (That accounts for 3 of my cables above.) ;)

I also did a Dish Mover to this house which had the previous owner's DTV installation on the roof. The Dish installer took the DTV dish down and put a D500 on the same mast, even though he didn't have LOS to 119. :( Ah, the good ol' days.

Anyone considering the external hard-drive DVR conversion option: Don't forget the cost of the hard drive(s)! I am contemplating a similar move and considered getting two HD solo 211Ks and adding an external hard drive to each to make them DVRs. (Because I have 4 TVs I want connected, I would already go for a 722K; therefore I would be charged the $6 DVR fee regardless.) The cheapest price I found for a 1TB external hard drive with AC power (necessary) was about $75; so two of them plus the activation fee would be at least $190, not including shipping. DISH would charge me $198 for adding two solo HD DVRs (612s).

That is a good point and I would personally much prefer a ViP612 over a ViP211K

The 612s will give me the same capability per box (dual tuners per TV) as D*, albeit for $8 more. But the OTA capability should in fact give me extra tuner capability, as I understand it, and PIP?

Yeah, but unfortunately the ViP612 doesn't have PiP.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Also watched part 2 about a week or so ago after rewatching part 1. It's not as faithful to the book as I was hoping for. Part 1 stayed fairly faithful to the novel, but part 2 took some liberties that I felt were rather excessively non-novel. It looks like a prequel series will happen before part 3. My issue is: there's no prequel that was written as a novel, so what will it be pulled from? Or will it just be "based loosely" on the novel?

There is a bunch of other Dune written by Kevin J Anderson and Brian Herbert (Franks son). I think the series in production is taken from one of their books about the Bene Gesserit.

Correct. I've read all of them (yes, it took awhile, better part of a year, in my spare time). And they can't really consider or classify a series about the Bene Gesserit as a prequel. Sure, I suppose they can call it that, if they want to, because it begins before the time of Paul Atredies, but it's still a stretch. It's a Dune-related novel, not a prequel as we generally think of prequels...

It's probably been 2 decades since I've listened to an AM radio station. Very rarely listen to FM any more.

I am 1 that wants the AM to Stay ....
That said, since '08 I have had Sat radio available to me ... I think I have turned on AM 3 or 4 times, just to see if its still there.

Fwiw, if theres a Major disaster or bad weather or whatever, the chances of me finding out about it by going to the AM side of the radio is SLIM and None.
Even FM, I haven't really had on since '13ish, I may turn it on from time to time, just to see if its still there.

Automation has seen to that. You can't get evening drive traffic reports where I live, much less disaster reports.

That goes for a lot of people. I've been advertising on radio for more than a decade now and am very familiar with this subject. While it is still a valuable tool, it has far less impact than it did just a few years ago. The best reaction I get is from a local Country music station....they play a mix of older and newer music and have a very big footprint.

Do you do any Ad's on Satellite ?

If Not, why not, because it's not Local ?

No, just regular FM stations. One is the country station I mentioned and the other is a Talk Radio station which used to get fantastic results but honestly, since the death of Rush Limbaugh, talk radio just doesn't do as well. There were two guys who had an early morning show which was hugely popular here in the southeast but one of them retired a couple years ago and the show just doesn't garner the same numbers as it used to.

IFixIt has published their Teardown and they had some positive things to say about the iPhone Duo. It still showed some dust ingress into the hinge assembly but seemed otherwise well-sealed.

But with a considerable number of reports of the main screen dying with similar failures, AppleCare+ should be a no-brainer for this phone.

most carriers do. that's why they send updates that slow phones down!! i buy unlocked phones no effect to me

Gone are the days when Apple "perfects" what debuted years earlier on an Android phone.

Hello folks, well my luck ran out last week with a nasty thunderstorm and after 39 years here, finally took a hit. Now, the FTA receivers I had for some years worked great until now. Recently picked up a fairly cheap receiver, online, KOQIT and seems to be good, but for the life of me, I cannot get the HDMI output to work with 3 of my Samsung monitors. I can hook it up to my Samsung TV and its HDMI input and it works fine. The 2 receivers I lost also worked fine with them, so am I going crazy? anyone have come across this or have any suggestions? And, since this is a somewhat cheap unit but works, what is everyone out there using for receivers these days? without breaking the bank? I enjoy watching FTA TV, so I will invest more if needed, what is a really good, detailed unit these days. I'm so use to watching a few of them HD channels. Right now I'm down to composite hookups, yuck! Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Frank

Take the cover off, show me pics of the board of the bad one and also the bottom of the board. I'm an old hardware electronics tech plus a satellite dealer; I fixed a lot of FTA and regular receivers. I may be able to fix it for you. And yes, they got hit by lightning; it's best to email me the pics at diamondsatellite@snet.net or call me at 203-232-8888. I give you a 50-50 chance of fixing it; I do have spare parts. my phone is a fliptop phone

Anybody know how to add "hidden" audio channels like for 101 W Ku or 105W C band on these recvr's? I've exported the database file but don't have anything that will read or edit it.
cyberham
For 105W C, you scan in the Westwood tp normally. Then select the audio channel you want. Not necessary to manually enter. On 101W, you must manually enter.

Seems like I remember that now, with my V9 I manually entered anyway on 105, easier for me to pick the channel later :)
