MLB Assuming Control of LA Dodgers

NEW YORK -- Major League Baseball is taking the extraordinary step of assuming control of the Los Angeles Dodgers, a team increasingly paralyzed by its owners' bitter divorce.

Once among baseball's glamour franchises, the Dodgers have been consumed by infighting since Jamie McCourt filed for divorce after 30 years of marriage in October 2009, one week after her husband fired her as the team's chief executive. Frank McCourt accused Jamie of having an affair with her bodyguard-driver and performing poorly at work.

Wow. Discuss.....

True but what is causing the troubles with the team? Is it just the divorce? How is the attendance at Dodger games? California has never had the love of baseball like the east coast. The Oakland A's are struggling as well.

The commissioner of baseball has extraordinary power. He would take over the franchise on the grounds it is for the good of the game. If three quarters of the other owners agreed then the take over would be ratified.

From a strategic stand point he could wait until the Dodgers were on the financial rocks as were the Rangers when MLB got involved.

The Mets are not in the same situation as the Dodgers at the moment. The Dodgers were cutting back on everything from security to amenities, and one of the most prestigious franchises in the sport cannot be run that way.

The Wilponzis, have a liquidity issue right now and potential losses from the lawsuit down the road, but it has not affected them the way it's affected the Dodgers.

Dodgers have the highest attendance in the NL and are pretty much always #2 behind the Yankees.

The issue with the finances is a combination of the divorce (and the stupid no fault divorce law) and his stupid property investments where he used the team as collateral and borrowed from the organization. Now that property value has dropped, so as his net worth (although in CA property is still pretty high. A house a couple blocks from mine in a middle class neighborhood in a lower class city is on the market for $780,000 (used to be worth $1.5 million)

Not the same, but similar. The Mets did take a $25M loan last November from MLB and last month the NY Post reported that the Mets were seeking a second loan to address their "short-term liquidity issue".

EXCEPT when it comes to reining in the owners. The baseball commissioners office DOES NOT work for the game like it USE TO. It works for the owners PERIOD. Let's not forget that. After Fay Vincent... it will never bee the same.

Season 2 order already in hand:

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

There would still be dirt ,dust in the future I am sure. So walking around the station like she did she would get stuff on her feet. I am sure the robot vacuum is still going to miss stuff, with all those different alien species running around there.

I don't know, but I still don't like her walking through the station or the academy with out her shoes. It looks unprofessional and very "hippy like" for someone of her status and I personally don't get off to feet, so there is that.

Stargate SG-1 cancelled, Atlantis renewed

Monday - August 21, 2006 | by Darren Sumner

The future of Stargate is in question today, as SCI FI Channel has cancelled the long-running Stargate SG-1, Multichannel News reported today and a GateWorld source has confirmed. The news regrettably follows the airing of the show's milestone two-hundredth episode on Friday.

Stargate Atlantis, meanwhile, has been renewed for a fourth season, with the network hoping to see that the spin-off series can stand alone, according to a source.

I think they were more of a transitional receiver bridging the VIPs to the Hopper. They were a PITA to install and were buggy. I don't recall that they came out just before hopper, but rather that they came out even before 722. Or could be thinking of 921.

As to the title pf the post, "rare" does not necessarily mean valuable or desirable.

Song Name Game Part 3!

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Was down due to an emergency update at the ISP. They did email me seconds before they took it down and apologized for the short notice.

However once the server was back online NGINX failed to start.

I was at the grocery store and just rebooted the entire server and everything came back up again.

Just got home from the grocery store I will bring in the groceries and then take a look at what NGINX failed the first time.

Ok checked it out and for some reason the web server (NGINX) tried starting before the DNS resolver fully loaded. This is why it worked when I rebooted the machine.

Thanks to ChatGPT it had me change the NGINX config to prevent this from happening again.

With that said I can't prevent the ISP from doing emergency upgrades which was the cause of all of this.

Has anyone noticed an FF stutter with 713? I used to be able to hit FF a few times and skip smoothly. After 713 (maybe 712), when I skip forward, there is a definite stutter for as many times as I have pressed FF.

Can anyone check on this and report back? Recorded programs and then press skip forward a few times to see if it's smooth? Normally, it just jumps to the right place after the skips.

It's a known issue.
For a temporary fix, go into the menu, Audio, and turn Dolby Audio "OFF". You will have PCM stereo audio.

I was able to give the tech ops team some data logs so they could diagnose the problem, and they rolled me back to H708 temporarily. It fixed that issue.

They let me know that they understand what caused the issue, and it will be fixed within a few weeks in a new update.
