I recently moved and was unable to keep my DishNetwork service. After many failed attempts to return my ViP722k DVR to them, they eventually just told me to keep it. So, I have a DishNetwork DVR that I have no idea what to do with. Would it be possible to use it as simply an OTA DVR? I'm fairly technically savvy, so I'm not opposed to opening it up in order to do something with it.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I recently moved from Iowa to Colorado. I was in the middle of my contract, so Dish told me that if the technician came out and was unable to set it up that I would be out of my contract. That is exactly what happened. They told us that they would be sending a box for us to ship back our equipment.

After waiting for over a week I logged into my online account to see if there was any indication why I hadn't received a box yet. Immediately after moving I had swapped two numbers in my address and accidentally given some places the wrong address for my apartment, so I assumed that this was the problem. My account indicated that my receiver was obsolete and didn't need returned. I called Dish to verify this. The person I talked to told me that that was incorrect and that their records indicated that they had shipped me a box. I informed him that we hadn't received it and asked if he could verify the address that they had on file. The address was correct, and he offered to send out a new box, but after a few minutes told me that they were having some issues and wouldn't be able to send me a box right then. He put me on hold to talk to somebody about the system issues and after waiting on hold for a few minutes he came back and asked if I had a box I could ship it in if he sent me a label. I happen to keep boxes for everything and had the original box, so I told him yes. After a few more minutes he told me that he couldn't send me the label because the UPS site was down (I do website development and had been using the UPS API that same morning without problem). He offered to call me back the next day after he had had a chance to work everything out.

I never heard back from that guy again, but a week later I received an automated phone call telling me that my card would be charged unless I returned the equipment. I immediately called Dish to straighten out the issue. The lady on the phone this time told me that their system indicated that I owned my equipment and didn't need to send it back. She said that if I received any calls indicating that I my card would be billed that I should call them back. I informed her that that was the reason for this call. She put me on hold to talk to her supervisor and when she came back she simply told me they would be sending another box. It was to arrive on Monday (this was Sunday). I kept my eyes peeled for the next week. In the apartment complex I live in, if UPS is unable to deliver a package they will leave it in the offices. I checked regularly with the office to see if my box had arrived, but it never did.

That was the last contact I had with DishNetwork and was over a month ago. The card that they have on file has since expired and was never billed for the equipment. LT, you're probably right. I should call them again and get written confirmation that this box is actually mine before I do anything with it.

Hi, I am sorry that you have had so many difficulties trying to return your receiver to DISH. Navychop is correct that the receiver will not work without the DISH service. If you would like to PM me your account number or phone number, I will look into the receiver issue and see what i can do to assist you. Thank you!

Thanks, I just would hate to see you get bitten in the butt later on if you ever try to get service from them down the road.

Dish will file it against your credit. I know of them filing for as little as $12.
So I would keep that in mind!!!

Have one of the DIRT members here look into this. If, in fact, you do own the box, you can re-sell it.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Also watched part 2 about a week or so ago after rewatching part 1. It's not as faithful to the book as I was hoping for. Part 1 stayed fairly faithful to the novel, but part 2 took some liberties that I felt were rather excessively non-novel. It looks like a prequel series will happen before part 3. My issue is: there's no prequel that was written as a novel, so what will it be pulled from? Or will it just be "based loosely" on the novel?

There is a bunch of other Dune written by Kevin J Anderson and Brian Herbert (Franks son). I think the series in production is taken from one of their books about the Bene Gesserit.

Correct. I've read all of them (yes, it took awhile, better part of a year, in my spare time). And they can't really consider or classify a series about the Bene Gesserit as a prequel. Sure, I suppose they can call it that, if they want to, because it begins before the time of Paul Atredies, but it's still a stretch. It's a Dune-related novel, not a prequel as we generally think of prequels...

It's probably been 2 decades since I've listened to an AM radio station. Very rarely listen to FM any more.

I am 1 that wants the AM to Stay ....
That said, since '08 I have had Sat radio available to me ... I think I have turned on AM 3 or 4 times, just to see if its still there.

Fwiw, if theres a Major disaster or bad weather or whatever, the chances of me finding out about it by going to the AM side of the radio is SLIM and None.
Even FM, I haven't really had on since '13ish, I may turn it on from time to time, just to see if its still there.

Automation has seen to that. You can't get evening drive traffic reports where I live, much less disaster reports.

That goes for a lot of people. I've been advertising on radio for more than a decade now and am very familiar with this subject. While it is still a valuable tool, it has far less impact than it did just a few years ago. The best reaction I get is from a local Country music station....they play a mix of older and newer music and have a very big footprint.

Do you do any Ad's on Satellite ?

If Not, why not, because it's not Local ?

No, just regular FM stations. One is the country station I mentioned and the other is a Talk Radio station which used to get fantastic results but honestly, since the death of Rush Limbaugh, talk radio just doesn't do as well. There were two guys who had an early morning show which was hugely popular here in the southeast but one of them retired a couple years ago and the show just doesn't garner the same numbers as it used to.

IFixIt has published their Teardown and they had some positive things to say about the iPhone Duo. It still showed some dust ingress into the hinge assembly but seemed otherwise well-sealed.

But with a considerable number of reports of the main screen dying with similar failures, AppleCare+ should be a no-brainer for this phone.

Gone are the days when Apple "perfects" what debuted years earlier on an Android phone.

Hello folks, well my luck ran out last week with a nasty thunderstorm and after 39 years here, finally took a hit. Now, the FTA receivers I had for some years worked great until now. Recently picked up a fairly cheap receiver, online, KOQIT and seems to be good, but for the life of me, I cannot get the HDMI output to work with 3 of my Samsung monitors. I can hook it up to my Samsung TV and its HDMI input and it works fine. The 2 receivers I lost also worked fine with them, so am I going crazy? anyone have come across this or have any suggestions? And, since this is a somewhat cheap unit but works, what is everyone out there using for receivers these days? without breaking the bank? I enjoy watching FTA TV, so I will invest more if needed, what is a really good, detailed unit these days. I'm so use to watching a few of them HD channels. Right now I'm down to composite hookups, yuck! Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Frank

Take the cover off, show me pics of the board of the bad one and also the bottom of the board. I'm an old hardware electronics tech plus a satellite dealer; I fixed a lot of FTA and regular receivers. I may be able to fix it for you. And yes, they got hit by lightning; it's best to email me the pics at diamondsatellite@snet.net or call me at 203-232-8888. I give you a 50-50 chance of fixing it; I do have spare parts. my phone is a fliptop phone

Anybody know how to add "hidden" audio channels like for 101 W Ku or 105W C band on these recvr's? I've exported the database file but don't have anything that will read or edit it.
cyberham
For 105W C, you scan in the Westwood tp normally. Then select the audio channel you want. Not necessary to manually enter. On 101W, you must manually enter.

Seems like I remember that now, with my V9 I manually entered anyway on 105, easier for me to pick the channel later :)
