Got to see Gravity tonight. Loved it.

The second Clooney opened the capsule door to the soyuz I was like - NO WAY -- she'd die immediately. I was relieved it turned out the way it did.

My son had a great way to end the movie. The ultimate way to end that movie...

Her capsule hits the water, she swims to land, looks up, and its the Planet of the Apes. Go all Charlton Heston on her.

The landscape fit it. And how perfect would that have been? :)

Check out post #22 ;)

For the record, I did not read any of the earlier posts. :)

I did now, and while there were points which strained credulity, it was fun. My problem was not with the fire extinguisher but with how effective she was with it given how lame she was otherwise. But really, my son and I had a great time and that was the point.

I finally got to see "Gravity". It wasn't a great film, but it was enjoyable. I just wish I wasn't such a stickler for detail. I probably would have enjoyed it more had I not known so much about little things like physics. If I would have known this was a "turn your brain off and enjoy" movie, I probably would have liked it much more than I did.
The biggest problem for me is once you present me with a universe for a movie, the entire movie needs to make sense within that universe. This is how I enjoy such fantasy action flicks like Die Hard or whatever action movie. In this kind of action/adventure, you know in advance that the lead character is super-human; able to leap out of the way from explosions and able to grab and hang onto the ledge of a building (or whatever) with a pinky fingertip.

"Gravity" presented itself as a space movie taking place on a space shuttle (which have all been decommissioned an the program scrapped). The way the movie starts, it seems like it takes place in a universe where our laws of physics apply. But no. Not really. It comes really close, but no.

I guess I chould have taken my cue of the movie producer's lack of interest in accuracy when the first scene shows astronaut Clooney jetting around the space shuttle like a kid swimming around a lagoon. Never mind that this piece of equipment was twice the size as shown in the movie. Never mind that it never reacted that fast. And never mind that this device was decommissioned because NASA determined that it's more efficient and cost-effective, and safer to move the entire shuttle to an object than to strap a jet pack on a person. But let that one slide. However being quite familiar with how NASA handles EVAs I know that no one would ever be allowed just to hang out on an EVA just to try to set a record-long space walk. But okay, Clooney needs his airtime.

What really bugged me was the dialog. It was nearly ridiculous at the beginning. I know the script of the movie is trying to introduce these characters, but the dialog made it seem as if the two main characters have never met! Sorry, these people have been in training together for YEARS!

Mercifully, the real action starts almost right away. I am not spoiling anything by telling you that for whatever reason the Russians shot one of their own satellites out of the sky with a missile. This destruction caused a chain reaction with shrapnel taking out other satellites and they went on to destroy others, etc. This scenario by itself has been the source of many-a-story in the sci-fi world. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) and Matt Kowalski (George Clooney) are outside the shuttle when the debris storm comes and causes catastrophic damage flinging Stone out into space.

I will ignore the fact that the debris approaches from the WRONG side. It is so easy to get it right, but the producers didn't care about accuracy, just dramatic effect. But at the speeds that Stone was tumbling in space, that would have been death #1.

I will not spoil the movie, but now with Ryan Stone drifting out in space with no jet pack and nothing to stop her tumbling in space to find a way to survive and get back to Earth.

I know why most people enjoyed this movie. It is a great story. What makes me a little upset and have trouble with this movie is that it would have been so EASY for the producers to hire a science consultant and listen to his corrections in physics and human physiology to make it accurate, and in my opinion, have a much greater impact on this incredible story of an astronaut attempting to survive!

But.....if you like Tulsa King....looks like you would probably like this as well. I don't mind spin-offs as long as they don't involve a sassy niece who moves from the big city

I thought I would come here and find lots of complaints about the update to the dish anywhere mobile app, but am not seeing any. It used to look just like the desktop webpage. Now you can no longer filter by sports channels or movie channels. Plus that they made it look like a big button telephone and you see fewer channels in the screen which requires more scrolling. Yes I realize you can look at sports then select which sport you want to look at, I just liked being able to see all sporting events in the guide with all other channels being filtered out. Am I alone in the wilderness on this?

I'm not a big fan of the new layout, especially on my Apple TV. It used to look like the old Guide layout on the Hopper 3, but they changed parts of that, too.

You don't like Tony, or Tony as the Director (he's only been there for 30 seconds now) or you don't like NCIS ?

No. Bring in someone new.🤔 Tony is not serious enough for me. Parker is too close to the team and Tim is too young to take over IMO.

I don't think Tim and Tony are that far apart in Age ...

Remember what Tony said to Tim when they first got back together ...
Tony said: I am the New Tony, Tim .... (something to that effect)

Tony has changed, he's been running his Security Business ... I'm sure he has grown up.

Give it time ... your judging the New Tony from the old Tony.

It sounds like Tim won't be around the Team much longer either.

Might be worth a watch when it comes out. Looks like typical big corp against the little guy movie BUT....there is a reason this plot type is so oft repeated, it draws audiences.

If you're going try to read / listen to the book (can't recommend the audio book enough) before this comes out, I'd avoid trailers.

Trailer below, spoiling it to make sure you read the above bold message first. The book / audio book are fantastic. Go into this blind if you can IMO!

Kind of disappointed at how much they show. A lot still to see, but man, some good reveals in the book that are just served up here.

I've seen it twice. Can't recommend the audio book enough, Ray Porter's performance is amazing and there's so much more in the book than the movie.

Forgot to comment. I did watch when it first came out on MGM. I enjoyed it a lot. I think reading the book made it easier to watch. Several friends commented it was a little hard to follow.

I agree. That can go for pretty much any book vs movie. Back when I was single I would read any Stephen King or John Grisham book I could get my hands on. When you read a book you make up the scenes and characters in your mind.....the movie version always disappoints.

A big win for the Patriots, and they are now 3-2.

Browns lose a close one with... The Jets. That is a classic Browns loss (granted, any loss is a classic one it seems). 49'ers, Vikings, and Chiefs remain undefeated. The AFC north have a three way tie at 3-2 for second place.

I had quit watching this show years ago because I ended up more annoyed than entertained. Well......I'm STILL more annoyed than entertained. I DO find it interesting to see how things work behind the scenes at many businesses. What annoys me is how utterly out of touch CEOs are with the companies they run. At the end of almost every episode the head of the company is amazed at how hard the employees have to work and many times have to work around impossible guidelines set forth from headquarters.

I found this one interesting because the new CEO had big plans for this company, Muscle Maker Grill, and it looked like the stores were all pretty busy. Recent history hasn't been good to this company however. I bet the covid lockdowns were the real killer.
