Just noticed a new channel at 384, FXM for FX Movie Channel. But the channel is SD only. PLEASE, Dish, if you are going to add any channel, especially a movie channel, do so in HD. Or does an HD feed for this service exist? The content appears to be previously released movies, nothing new here.

Actually it is a NEW channel. While the block of programming existed for some time, it was only very recently that FX Movie became a full channel of it's own, and I haven't noticed this new SEPARATE channel until a few days ago on Dish. The following is from the Wikipedia entry:
"It was announced on March 27, 2013 that FXM would go from being a programming block on Fox Movie Channel to being a full scale network of the FX Networks family, which also includes FX and FXX"

As for HD, Wikipedia continues:
"FXM provides a high definition simulcast feed that broadcasts the channel's film content in the 720p resolution format, the company's default transmission format."

I guess it depends on your definition of "New Channel". If the Cartoon Network changes its name to the "Adult Swim" channel and drops the kid stuff, does that make it a "new channel"? Not to me and most people who recognize programming changes. Wikipedia's entry is far from "official" too.
Was SpikeTV a new channel or a name change from TNN? Was SyFy a new channel or just a STUPID name change from SciFi?

It was never a "separate" channel. People can call it that if it makes them feel better about it.

Well, yes. We may not like it, but if Cartoon Network were to launch Adult Swim channel having its own channel number and its own position on a program guide with the same Adult Swim content 24/7, that does count as a new channel. A good example is Destination America channel. Granted, nearly 100% of its content had aired on other Discovery Networks channel and even the few shows that now premier there, they are soon aired on other Discovery Channel, but, like or not, Discovery America is a new channel. I suppose nearly all the channels on an MVPD line-up could be considered NOT a real distinct channel becasue so many of them air content previously aired on other servcies. The Hub is a good example of this, but is or even the old "N" when it went from a block of programming on Nickelodeon to its own CHANNEL 24/7, and back then we referred to it as a new CHANNEL. After all, if we were to take the opposing logic that new channel mean new content or content having not been aired by any other channels or as blocks on other channels, all MVPD's channel count would have to be greatly reduced to maybe 20, not the hundreds.

But even more simple: when one inquires about the number of channels a service provides, is it not the common opinion that if a service has its own distinct channel number and position on the guide, that counts as a CHANNEL? Most would say YES, but with a great big BUT about common content across a media company's "channels," but still a separate CHANNEL.

So, are you saying the following Wikipedia statement is false and there was no such announcement nor action: "It was announced on March 27, 2013 that FXM would go from being a programming block on Fox Movie Channel to being a full scale network of the FX Networks family, which also includes FX and FXX."

If so, it would be great if you would edit that Wikipedia page with the correct information you have. That's how Wiki's work. Intelligent, knowledgeable folk like yourself having access to keeping things correct and up to date, reflecting the latest changes . I will re-visit that page and look forward to your elucidating us all.

Fox might play the old "FMC" library on their new broadcast digital channel "Movies!" - so people who liked the older films might see if it's available in their local area.

I find it hard to consider this a "new" channel. It's mostly the same content , same channel number (Fox Movie Channel had been already been moved to 384). Maybe the ratio of old to new-ish has been tweaked. Whatever marketing spin they put on it, it's just a rebranded/refocused version of the "old" Fox Movie Channel. They probably made sure it doesn't count as a "new" channel for contract purposes. I'd bet any service contractually obligated to carry and pay for "Fox Movie Channel" now has "FXM" and is still on the hook.
TNGTony
I cannot reiterate this enough. This channel changed its name to FXM 1/1/12...18 months ago. Dish changed the EPG name this week. That is all that happened. The programming HAS NOT CHANGED from last week to this week! It is exactly the same channel now as it was last week.
When Showtime 2 became Showtime Too, it was NOT a new channel. Just a (moronic) name change.

And to the Adult swim thing... I did not say "launch a new channel." I said they drop the kids programming and change the name of the same channel. It is not a new channel. Spike offered ZERO different programming from TNN (The National Network) when the name changed.... they just changed the name. Not a new channel. When The Nashville Network became TNN, then Then National Network, no one said, "Hey look a new channel!"

Format change ? New channel
M
FXM SD was unwatchable on Directv but is actually pretty decent on Dish Network. I would be surprised if it doesn't go HD in the next couple of months. I really like their old movies which have no commercials.

Update on my new Apple iphone 18PM:
Battery now lasts for 4 days or 96 hours and the most drain is having the Tesla app running in the background and polling emails and Texts. My old 15PM was barely lasting 24 hours.

If you ponied up for an iPhone Duo, keep it away from anything other than your soft, fleshy fingertips. No fingernails, no dust, sand, dirt, or other particulate matter. And don't bend it more than it needs to. Zack has destroyed $2,000 of Apple hardware to get those views, which should cover his expenses.

Comcast is the first to report, with a massive 274,000 loss in video subscribers.

In the 3Q of 2016, Comcast had 21.42 million video subscribers and was the #1 provider, now at 10.39 million and is the #3 Provider, YTTV is #2 ( who also surpassed DirecTV-8 Million and Dish-under 5 Million), Charter/Spectrum is #1.

yes. even copper lines in a house degrade over 70 years, I doubt coax would last that long. Fiber Optic on the isp side will last over 70 years with very dedgration

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Well, the bag can't weigh that much, right? But by law food product packaging must display the actual net weight of the product, i.e., the contents of the container, so by any logic, if not law, a store's stated per-ounce cost should reflect that figure. But since there's not any law regulating shelf statements, a store can say whatever it wants without violating any rules. So I guess the answer is more consumer legislation. Or simply caveat emptor.

I would think that the Vendor/Maker of the product would have a say in it, showing the Correct weight ...
You would think it would be in the contract.

I do look at the ounces of items, but unless its way off, I don't check the math, may have to start now.

Remember when you use to get a 13.5 oz bag of Chips .... Thats a PARTY Size now.

Unless the specific product or its packaging is known at the time of weighing, estimating the tare weight for a PoS system is a tall order.

I'm pretty sure that produce bags can't get any thinner. ;)

You certainly don't want to put unbagged produce on a belt, scale, or in a clerk's hands (gloved or not).
I would think that all the packaging would already be accounted for ... they weigh the container, subtract that from the scale, then add the product , so its weighing the Product only

You would be thinking wrong when it comes to goods that are sold by weight (meat, produce, nails). Those items typically go on the scale wrapped without an associated tare. The weight only excludes the sticker because it hasn't been printed yet.

Perhaps only for sliced meat and cheese. Salads and similarly "shifty" or "drippy" items are typically weighed in deli cartons of some sort.

My monster burritos (up to two lbs.) are weighed in their foil jackets or paper mache take-out trays, and the jacket/tray is then "sealed" with the printed label as it comes off the printer.

Precision has to give way to practicality in situations like that.

I hope these new "most powerful" satellites will mean that DISH can provide every channel that can be sourced in HD in HD. I do not like the fact that two of my favorite channels (Start and H&I) are SD. I was also very disappointed after installation that METV has to be streamed from my internet connection. Finally, I dropped the locals upon seeing that my local CW channel is in blurry letterboxed SD when it has been HD OTA for years.

This piece gets me - the fact that Dish has removed SD channels from satellite completely in the name of "HD upgrades". I pay for satellite TV, not streaming...I don't see why they couldn't leave the SD version of the channels on Satellite then put the HD streaming version like they have for other channels.

Now that I'm retired, obviously I have different health care insurance. I take 2 prescriptions. With my old insurance I didn't have to pay for either of them, now I do. It's not a huge amount but it led me to dig a little into the cost of prescription medications. I have been using Walgreens for the longest time. But what I found was that Walgreens price is 4.8 times more for one of my prescriptions and the other is 2.3 percent more compared to the lowest price pharmacy. If you pay for prescription medications you might want to have a look at trumprx and see if you can get a lower price.

Walmart and Sam's pharmacies have "zero rated" prescriptions lists where generics are $4 (or less). If yours are on that list, then of course GoodRx isn't going to help. Also, GoodRx isn't always the cheapest discount program. For me, the cheapest is usually Mark Cuban's Cost Plus Drugs.
