I finally got a chance to really look over my install. Just to start off the installer left my old dish on the house, and left the WA LNB. (I removed the LNB today) Then I noticed I had the cables running from my new LNB attached to my gas line. Then I noticed that the duo node was still grounded to my old dish. I'm thinking that this install isn't right and I should have paid more attention before signing off but I already called the company that did the install. (also the installer reported that he advised my EA install wasn't possible and didn't do the install, according to the CSR at the regional contractor office, red flag) and they'll be out later but here are some pictures.

new dish on the roof, the cables from the LNB drop down, go under the stairs and then are connected to the gas line, pictures below.
000_0441.JPG

There is actually no gas service, but doesn't the gas still come to the point to where it's capped off ?
000_0443.JPG000_0444.JPG

Anyways then I noticed that my old dish was still grounded to the node.
000_0442.JPG000_0445.JPG000_0446.JPG000_0447.JPG

The guy told me how he was going to do the install. Wires dropped down from the roof, under the stairs, I figured he was going to use fasteners to attach the cable to the bottom of the siding like the previous installs, and that the "wiring" would include the ground wire. I should have taken a closer look before I signed the paperwork but it I was also doing with computer issues and doing a full reinstall of windows and holding my dog at the same time (to keep her away from the installer)

I agree it looks sloppy. I understand the techs are in a hurry and aren't making enough to go crazy. When I upgraded to the Hopper I got the intaller to get the wiring close enough to the way I want it and leave me a little slack so I could clean it up when he left so I was happy and he didn't have to spend the time to be that meticulous. I think you could clean that up reasonably easily and pull the old dish down just so it looks better.

This X2! As a tech I can tell you that being in a hurry is a daily task. I get 4-6 jobs placed on me for the day normally and you have to figure out how to get them all in before a decent end time in the afternoon which to me is by 4pm to enjoy some sorta family life. I agree that I cut some corners on a few jobs and make others look awesome, just depends on the home and the home owner if you want my honest opinion. If the house or say trailer looks like it needs to be condemned then I'll make cables run straight but aside from that don't expect much else unless its a full new install and there was nothing on the house to start with. If its a super new home then I expect it to be prewired RG6 (industry standard now) or you better be figuring out how to get cable from Point A to Point B with as little work as possible or expect me to drill a bunch of holes. I can't read minds and the home owner knows the house but don't expect to say put it here and walk off....ohh hell no! Dog or no dog you best be hanging around so I can ask questions or I'm gonna drill drill DRILL baby!

As for taking down the old dish, I would have to use on another job since its already assembled. I love those already assembled 500's I keep laying around from a upgrade just for those flex accounts or standard only installs that are getting nothing but a 322 or 311. If I wasn't gonna need it then I won't touch it and the home owner can figure out how to use a wrench to take it down cause remember (most techs get paid by the job not by the hour).

When I was a young telephone installer back in the 60s my boss once told me that "you should install every telephone as if it were in your own house, outside and inside." I did just that. I think you should be ashamed of yourself, thinking that, just because it's a trailer or otherwise that you should be able to get away with shoddy installation. I am so angry right now by your pronouncement that I have to go away!!!

The 60s were a much different (and better in some ways) time. I bet AT&T doesn't say that now. With the way Dish treats installers I can't say that I blame them for trying to take shortcuts. All Dish cares about is the bottom line, not that every house is wired as if it were the installer's own home. This is evident in other areas, too. Just look at the buggy receiver software, or call their 333-DISH line for "customer service." Unfortunately, this is standard practice for most big companies these days.

So that's why I prewired my house and stood over each installer to make sure no shortcuts were taken. While I understand that they are under pressure, I still made them do things right if they tried to take shortcuts. I think it's very reasonable. Since I prewired I already saved them a lot of time. Every installer/tech I had was very happy to see that, and even more happy that I already had everything planned out. They would even stick around for a chat afterward. Sometimes it seemed like they didn't want to leave but had to, lol.

Depends on what your perception of 'short cut'...
Each of us uses different methods to get to an end result. As long as the job meets specs and is neat, there is no reason for customers to interfere or "hover"..
In 12 years there were instances where I had customers who I knew were less than trusting. They attempted to hover over me while i worked. In each instance, I asked them how much they would like it of their boss spent 3 hours watching every move they made including following them to the bathroom...They got the idea and left me alone.
I actually walked off a couple jobs because the homeowner insisted on bothering me.
Now, if a customer is curious about how things worked, about the use of the equipment/remotes, how the wiring was routed, wanted answers to general questions about do it yourself projects related to running communications cables, audio stuff, wanted to hand me tools, or just chat and make the job go easier, that was fine. That kind of curiosity was useful because most times an interested customer is an educated customer. An educated customer is least likely to call Dish because they put the tv on the incorrect input and could not figure out how to fix that.

I feel like when an installer is in my home I have the right to "hover" I don't most of the time but will if I see fit. It's my home and I have every right too. If you want to walk off a job because I want to "hover" then that's you. You must be up to something.

I don't care for people hovering over me either but if you are just standing there and not saying anything and staring at every thing I do that is what we define as "hover". If you are actively helping hand tools, chit chat about whatever ask simple questions about the system and not try to over complicate things or put me on the spot as to why a channel was removed cause I sure as hell don't know then that is fine. It is your home, and I for one would really like to have someone present close by to ask if I can drill a hole in one spot vs another rather than spend a extra vital few minutes hunting you down most likely thru pets that were not put up or kids that are in the way and not told to do so. But keep this in mind just because we don't appreciate being hovered over doesn't mean we are "up to something", but rather just trying to concentrate and do our job...after all if you could do it and do it better than you should have done so rather than call a professional. There are plenty of do it yourself instructions on this site and others about how to install satellite systems.

I'm not saying be right on top of you. But I will be in whatever room your in. It's my house and I'm going to keep an eye on things. I'm not saying your a bad person but you honestly never know.

I have no.problem with being followed. Just let me huddle. Plus I can't be blamed for stealing something or breaking something if you are there.
foghorn2
Can we all just get along. Customer should not be hovering over someone trying to do their job and workers should not be playing a fast one on the customer.

Great, that way if something is missing you can't blame the tech. Most people do this and that is fine but keep in mind that going from one room to another is pretty common when trying to do things and this type of work including going up and down stairs pretty quick. I was doing this the other day and the guy kept getting in my way so I kept running into him on purpose finally after the 4th time he stopped following me and got the idea he was in my way.

Let me ask you this, when you drop a vehicle off to get it serviced do you stand there and hover over the mechanic or in the shop room the whole time while its being worked on because remember "It's YOUR house" I mean car!!? lolz

24 team playoff seems to be real close.

Are we really that far from a 64-team tournament?

The benefit of the 24 team playoff:
  • All the cartel teams that cartels want in playoff are in playoff
    • Independent of record too! Bonus.
  • MONEY!!!!! for the cartels.
  • I'm out of ideas.
Cons
  • Regular season really doesn't matter now other than the rivalry games
    • Top cartel teams can lose three games and still make the playoff
  • Going to start resting players?
    • The playoff is going to be *checks notes* several games!
    • Resting players could make games dumb.
    • Maybe even restrict NIL players from games played.
  • How much are streaming sub costs going up a month to pay for this?!

One of the pro's I see is in a year with so many undefeated teams they have a good chance of an opening. Few years back you had lower divisions that didnt get a shot. I love collage football and I have no problem with that addition.

We are in what week 5 now? Been two real good ranked games to watch.....Other than that top 25 teams are playing nothing.

Oh, I Hate the idea ...

It would be different if it was a game that you could play 2 or games each week, but when you only play 1 game a week, the larger playoff is Not a good thing ...

The season has how many games now, is it 14 ... then you want to play another 5 (with more to come) against Top 12 (eventually 24 teams) ... remember, the 5 games in the playoffs will be the hardest games all year and back to back.

For example, IF Ohio State should win it all this year ... they play 5 teams in the Top 25, plus they would play 5 more to win it all, depending on how the ranking shake out and if Bye weeks are given.

Thats 10 Ranked teams ... in one year ...
I don't see that happening very often ...
Edit, Bama plays 4, Georgia plays 3, But Ole Miss plays 5 (didn't expect to see that)

That said, I don't see the Buckeyes winning it all this year.

A 12 team playoff net should catch any undefeated team. The 12 team playoff also exposed that rankings suck. I mean, we kind of knew already that the rankings weren't particularly reproducible, but we now have the empirical evidence that the rankings suck because judging who is the best among a mickey mouse scheduled football season isn't a rational endeavor. So the 12 team playoff ensures most teams that should make it, do, including the mid-major undefeated team. 8 teams should be able to work as well, but puts greater risk at OSU and Alabama missing the playoff... can't have that.

Which is the run up to my main problem with the 24 team set up is that it is designed to keep the OSU's and Alabama's from missing the playoff. The cartels are ensuring widespread participation for their own cartels to increase the monetary reward to themselves. It is fixing the system while not fixing the outcomes, merely making the regular season game outcomes virtually irrelevant. Sure, a bye for winning the conference would be nice, but we've already seen that byes aren't that influential.

That is college football in a nutshell. Again, college football isn't about competition, it is about revenue. The entire setup is about making money, from regular season squash games against local jobbers like the WWF days to tax exempt bowl games.

And to add to the first world woes, the college football cartels have made being a College Football fan even more expensive... so they can get paid more.

Agreed, it mostly regurgitates known solutions. That's the point. Nobody needs an innovative fix for a driver error or a creative way to format a report. Let it handle the solved problems so people can spend their time on the ones that aren't.

Addressed by what you didn't quote. This cycle is as old as computing: compilers, libraries, frameworks each automated the tedious part, and the human work moved up a level. Innovation didn't end; it shifted. And people still make new compilers, libraries or frameworks.

Nobody's forced to hand anything off. Anyone who wants to keep doing it by hand still can, and people who couldn't do it at all now can.

Misapplication isn't something that the casual coder can identify. They can only discover, the hard way, that it doesn't work at some point.

Good thing not everyone will have to learn the hard way then. The same tools can explain why something broke.

I was watching some of this guy's stuff and realized some of you may not be familiar. Basically his show is Candid Camera meets a magician. This is a comp of a few of his exploits. I first learned of him when I was out at a meeting in Denver about 10yrs ago. The men I was sitting at the table with started talking about this show and said it was one of the funniest things they had seen. When I got home I started watching it....yes, it is funny.

This started a couple months ago. I have 2 H3s on one network, both with 2 EHD identical 3 TB seperately powered so all recordings are accessible by all 4k & J4s (8 of them).

On one H3 (not the main one that controls the MOCA network), after it reboots, it doesn't recognize it has two EHDs plugged into it. Rebooting the EHD by their power source doesn't fix it. Resetting the network doesn't. Software h3 reset doesn't fix it. Rebooting MOCA h3 doesn't fix it but so far, after 3+ cold boots (unplug pwr to H3 with unrecognized EHDs), it finally it figures out they are plugged into it. BUT.... Then when you open a program it only partially shows series and episodes, but instead of showing recordings, it only shows upcoming airings. HELP!!!!

Thanks JohnGalt1234 - That's interesting. I wonder are the Boot Strap versions different between a Hopper 3 only and a Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus setup as I have the later. I guess when charlesrshell is able to since he has both setups, he can do the test. Unless the bootstrap version is tied to when the specific Hopper 3 is manufactured, in my case, mines is from February 2016 when it was installed.

At least Google Search AI is saying the bootstrap version will never change and unique to each Hopper 3.

This is probably why different people seem to either have the issue or they don't because the bootstrap code could also be tied to the hardware revision and
components other than the internal HD.

JohnGalt1234 - So you basically have 2 Hopper 3's. The CasinoH3 is the one that is Hopper 3 only while Master Bedroom is a Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus setup.
Master Bedroom uses Android TV (ATV) software so the DISH part is actually a app and will behave differently as you can probably tell the Guide's are different on the Master Bedroom which will resemble the same guide used on other ATV devices such as the Joey 4 and Wireless Joey 4. If I am correct, the CasinoH3 is the one with the problem since you did say the one dated 09/05/2026 is the naughty one while 08/15/2026 named Master Bedroom is the nice one. Usually I would expect the CasinoH3 to be the one without the problem because it's Hopper 3 only and Master Bedroom would be the one with problems because it has the Hopper Plus involved. That is why they behave differently because CasinoH3 is running the native Hopper 3 software while Master Bedroom is running the Android TV software and also it runs a app called DISH known as package com.dish.atv.launcher, the version for mines is P15403 2026100917 so it's probably the same version as the Hopper Plus software version with the date of October 9, 2026, not sure what the 17 means except maybe revision 17?

This explains it better than I can. Sorry, had to take all the ads out.

As I understand it, the android is just the display signal from the hopper+. I can disconnect the H+ and plug the hdmi directly into the master hopper3.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Now testing on the stream server:
WJBF-D2 CW Augusta GA
KSVI-D2 CW Billings MT
WETM-D2 CW Elmira NY
WJET-D2 CW Erie PA
KLFY-D2 CW Lafayette LA
KARD-D2 CW Monroe LA
WVBT-D2 CW Norfolk VA
WTWO-D2 CW Terre Haute IN
WFXV-D2 CW Utica NY
KFDX-D3 CW Wichita Falls TX
K
PISTONS and THUNDER are finally testing on the stream server. PISTONS is showing the Ion/Scripps Sports promo loop filler that their NHL and WNBA feeds have, THUNDER has a "You are watching Thunder+" slate

The Clippers still haven't officially announced their TV plans beyond 10 simulcasts on KTLA, but the NBA's FAQ for ClipperVision is now live. The CLIPPERS feed is currently showing a loop of their Hawaii preseason game.

The Heat still haven't announced their West Palm Beach or Fort Myers affiliates. Since WPLG is streaming the games for free via their app, I doubt we'll be seeing the return of WPLG on stream.

So far nothing testing for the Bucks, Magic, Hawks or Hornets.

These are now live on stream and weren't testing on satellite as of yesterday:
WETM-DT/19 CW Elmira
WJET-DT/25 CW Erie
KLFY-DT/11 CW Lafayette LA
KARD-DT/15 CW Monroe
WVBT-DT/44 CW Norfolk

West Palm Beach is getting it on WTCN-CD/43 MNT. Still nothing for Fort Myers

Also, the Thunder's deal for KSBI/52 OKC and KQCW/19 Tulsa will be via a special cable and DIRECTV only feed of those stations. OTA viewers and Dish customers will be limited to 10 games.

Thanks for the updates on CW norfolk
Hopefully comes to sat soon!!

Not seeing 44 (WVBT-DT/44 CW Norfolk ) on my D* app for firestick
K
It's only available for streaming customers, they still haven't added that batch of CW stations to satellite.

Even if it was, satellite customers still can't stream their CW affiliates via the app, just the Big 4, select PBS stations and some independents (mainly the ones that have full season NHL/NBA rights)

You don't like Tony, or Tony as the Director (he's only been there for 30 seconds now) or you don't like NCIS ?

No. Bring in someone new.🤔 Tony is not serious enough for me. Parker is too close to the team and Tim is too young to take over IMO.

I don't think Tim and Tony are that far apart in Age ...

Remember what Tony said to Tim when they first got back together ...
Tony said: I am the New Tony, Tim .... (something to that effect)

Tony has changed, he's been running his Security Business ... I'm sure he has grown up.

Give it time ... your judging the New Tony from the old Tony.

It sounds like Tim won't be around the Team much longer either.

I'm curious how they are going to implement Tony into Origins (If they do) ...
Tony was introduced to Gibbs and the team, on NCIS, which makes it the Mothership side of things, he worked in Baltimore prior to NCIS, NO mention when they met that anyone had known one another ...

Please post your remote make/model here and any details of your issue. We are looking to collect as many examples as possible. I may reach out to you for your receiver number, but please do not post it here.

If you've already reported this to me, please repost it here so I can track all instances in one thread.

Thanks!

I lost IR control of my H3 after the H398 update in September of 25. We were using the Harmony Hub remote system from Logitech. We have been using the H3 OEM remote to turn the receiver on and off ever since then.

I have a solution that is guaranteed to work.
All Hopper developers are required to turn in their RF Hopper remotes and use only IR remotes.

I guarantee you that the bug will be fixed in two days!
Try it; it will work! They will work 24 hours a day to fix it when the WAF goes into the toilet!

BTW my bedroom H3 does not have this problem where I am using a Harmony 650. Also has there been any more feedback? Are they still working on this or what?

I think I have a separate issue with our Hopper 3 when watching/recording a 4K event. I have had many instances of it spontaneously restarting when I "disturbed" it during a 4K event. I learned to not touch the remote after a given point.

But it might be the IR code subroutine and 4K that make it touchy. I'll try it Wednesday night during the NLCS Game 3.

I was having similar issues last night while watching and recording the NLCS game on 148. When I tried resuming the game at one point the screen went blank and I couldn't get my H3 to respond to any remote commands. Eventually the Hopper went to a HD channel but still no remote response. After a while the Hopper went into a re-boot cycle. This happened at least 3 times. I was using an IR universal remote only.

A little frustrating to have the game broken up like that but at least the Brewers won:)

Yea, I've only been a CIO for the last 30 years! :)
Trust me, when something important breaks, they get to own it!

Loaded H713 software on my Hopper 3 last week. Have not seen any change in the IR/RF remote issues with my Harmony 700.
Has Dish acknowledged this is a problem and are they committed to fixing it?
I'd be happy to roll back to last July.

I will look, but I don't think I have seen it. Owen's breakfast sausage use to be favorite, but I can't find it anymore. Jimmy Dean's country mild is OK also when I can find it.

Surprisingly I moved here from the Gulf Coast due to the heat. But it has been hotter here due to the heat domes than it did down there.
