We've had many threads on this, it is not difficult but read up first. On the directv forum page do a search for "moving".

If Iceberg is around, I'm pretty sure he'd be pretty good at showing you how to "move". He did once for me when I was with Dish and it's really easy.

Tell you what, when I have time later, I'll tell you how to "move". It's really not that complicated but just wait for my reply so you don't do anything wrong. Right now I'm kinda busy but I will answer you.

Pretty simple, you pick an address in the DMA you want that has no chance of having a Directv account. Doesn't have to match to an actual postal address, but the road and address range needs to exist.

Call and say you moved but there was a dish there already and everything is up and working. Make sure they change the service address (this controls your locals) After they change it you can change your billing address back to where you receive your mail online on the directv profile. You may need to refresh your receivers (reboot, or even reauthorize) to switch the locals.

You'll need to resetup any series links to the new channels.

Ensure you stay within the spotbeam, perhaps 100 miles or so from center of the DMA or you won't get signal.

Thats a simple overview for you.

A lot of people suggest to use the search on this site, but it just doesn't work for some people. I can search for something as plain as "Directv" and it shows no results. It's never worked for me and I've lurked here for years. It doesn't work on Chrome or Firefox on my computer. The search works wonderfully on the app on my phone, though.

Exactly. I couldn't have said it better myself. My explanation will be kinda long but it'll help you by saving you a lot of trouble. Pick a housing number between two actual houses (google map search it). Not any other buildings but houses, otherwise it'd get too complicated. For example, if the numbers were 208 and 212, pick 210. Also, I was told once here to send by e-mail, not call by phone about changing your service address, and I agree, in case they question you about it. Now don't get too greedy and change your service address too often, otherwise they'll catch on, and have to send a tech out each time you try to, and you don't want that trust me. I got greedy and almost got busted by that, but you might not be so lucky. What I did is send by e-mail saying the address wasn't supposed to be changed, and frankly they bought it, but you don't want to go that far. Try spacing out "moving" for between one and two months. I'd recommend two. And you might want to check online on your account after it's supposed to be all correct to make sure it is, otherwise then call to make sure whatever error it is is corrected. And remember in the beginning tell them to keep the billing address the same.

By the way, if you want to still have your true locals, get a TV antenna. I'd recommend as good of an outdoor one as you can get, but if you can't, there are still pretty good indoor ones. Want to still use DVR function on your true locals? Get a DVR that works with antennas such as the TiVo Roamio preferably if you get one from TiVo (that's the model I have) and if you can afford it, otherwise there are cheaper TiVo options, and Channel Master has some good subscription free models too. Just go to the Over-the-Air boards on this forum and they can give pretty good suggestions as well. There's also the AM21 attachment to your DVR, but that's such a hassle, not as good, and you have to mess typing in a bunch of zip codes to get SOME of the locals you want, and not all with or with the correct guide data. But I recommend if you want one, for it would come in the same guide info as your DirecTV channels, the others won't and you have to change inputs, order one first, then "move" a couple weeks later. If you find you end up wanting one later on down the road, have them send it to the billing address. If you have any questions about the AM21 Off-Air Tuner, the people on this board will be able to help. Only get a DVR for your antenna if you want guide info and/or DVR functionality. And quite frankly, I love my TiVo Roamio, and I have lifetime service. Sometimes TiVo's customer service sucks though (such as getting them to add channels to your lineup, but I was told my situation was pretty unusual).

And when you need to upgrade equipment, then look around for a AUTHORIZED THIRD PARTY DirecTV Dealer in your area to help you. It might cost a little more money wise, but it's cheaper in the long run, and better than getting caught. Keep in mind that if you do get caught, all that happens is they return your service address to where you actually are, give you your true locals, and they'll have to send a tech out. But a third party DirecTV dealer can help you out often where they can give you the service you need or even products and you don't have all the hassle of dealing changing your service address back as well as other things (gets too long explaining as it is). But if you truly find you have no other option AND AS A LAST RESORT but to deal with DirecTV themselves, e-mail them, tell them you moved back to your billing address, wait a couple weeks, then have them come out to your place and do the service. Then wait two months and "move" back by e-mail. Another good tip would be when you need to order from DirecTV, and can't buy from a local third party dealer or local store, then call them and make sure they send it to the billing address. You may need to ask them twice where they are going to send it. Then after that, check online everywhere you can such as your DirecTV account and make sure it's going to the right place. If you find out it's not, call them and make sure they do, and you may have to repeat the process until it appears that everything is correct.

And if you have any questions about locals, ask the guys here, they are really good help. I had a service from one spot then later found out about another that had the same locals but different ones as well. Mine is a two market zip code. Just ask the guys here. Now make sure you don't give your name or address (obviously) but state the city you are in then ask for some good zip code locations. Perhaps someone can help you out here in this thread, you just have to ask. They know their stuff here.

Here's another tip. I often check the weather app on the Weather Nation channel or look at the weather online for the area you are supposedly in (just type in a zip code) before I have to call DirecTV. They often just ask you "how's the weather in your area" not to test you, but to make conversation, but it's still good to be as accurate as you can, even if they really don't check on it. It's good to know what the weather is like in your area before going outside anyways, so google search it and find some good sites or even try ask.com.

Now more than likely you might have trouble remembering everything everybody helps you out in this thread, so I'd suggest printing this out for at least right now (especially all the tips I give you), and save them until at least you think you can remember them, if not longer. Those are all the tips I have for you right now, and if I can think of anymore, but for right now, I'd say this is adequate. I spent a lot of time typing this out to save you a lot of trouble, time, and hassle, but now need a break.

P.S. My best advise for you is that if you think you don't know what you are doing, don't do it. My suggestion is to do it to get the locals you want. You won't get any real trouble if you get caught, legal or otherwise, and won't lose service either. You can do this with Dish Network too (any satellite service). It may sound like it, but it's really not that complicated, and in all reality not that much to remember (though it sounds like it). And just use your best judgment.

For quite a while now, people with a VIP211k have been losing their recordings on their activated external HDDs... even when there's nothing physically wrong with HDD. I believe this is an intentional and underhanded tactic that Dish is pulling in an attempt to force users away from the VIP211k.

They are obviously regretting that they ever let users have a "non-dvr" dvr in the first place. You would think they would be happy charging you a $40 one time fee... and then be happy letting the customer be the one responsible for HDD failures.

Dish clearly hates the 211k bitter-clingers. This recording deletion problem is intentional (IMO), and I think it is just one more tool that they are using. Hopper and a 2-year agreement... that's what they want you to have. Think about that... a 2-year agreement... with a company $30 Billion in debt (that's with a B). What happens when all that debt causes them to drop the channel that may have been your whole reason for having Dish in the first place? Guess who's stuck with a service that no longer suits their needs... for the remainder of the 2-year agreement.

On top of that, they don't want you to install it yourself. I purchased and installed all my equipment myself. That used to be common. Now, they lie to me and tell me that my dish must be updated to use a Hopper. Funny thing is... they don't even know what dish I have because they didn't install it, and I didn't tell them. If you ask what type of dish/LNBs the hopper needs... good luck getting an answer. All they know is that whatever you have needs to be upgraded by an installer.

It is quite apparent to me that they care much more about staying in their box, than they do working with the customer. That's too bad, because it hasn't always been that way. It's like they are totally unaware of the current business environment that they are trying to compete in.

I have been a customer since 2010. I will be cancelling my service before the next period. Yeah, I know, my $1,200 a year won't make a difference to them. It just seems like they have forgotten who needs who, especially when you consider the competition in today's streaming world. But hey, they will have succeed in forcing me off the 211k.

Got a 211k that works fine, and I no longer need it if someone wants to throw me a few bucks and pay shipping. Not tied to my account as of last week. Used with a tailgater and got a wally

Actually, it is. A couple of people PMed me when I posted this, and when I asked for an address, they never responded. Then I just sort of let it go. Send me a PM to continue the discussion

Well, after nine months of being on pause, I finally figured out that I was wasting $5 a month. So I cancelled. For the first time since 2010, I no longer have a Dish account.

I do have to say that I did appreciate the account pause option. That just gives a person some time to see what the fallout of cancelling will be... without having to go all the way over the cliff first.

Since I never once had an "oh shoot, I need Dish Network for..." moment, the decision was a lot easier.

Funny enough, when I called to cancel (for real, not playing the pricing game), all of a sudden, they were offering me deals that I was told before that I couldn't get without changing out my VIP211k. Now, I could have had those specials with them just sending me a new card for the receiver. LOL!

Of course, my mind was already made up because of having not missed the service while on pause. That, and the fact that I bet the 211k still kills recordings.

All in all, I'm glad that I had Dish for all those years. I just outgrew the need, and they pressed the issue by deleting recordings. I would have eventually went this route without the deleted recordings issue. But, for sure, that did hasten the outcome.

I'll still pop in at this site from time to time. Believe it or not, I still have a C/Ku BUD that I intend on playing with again if life ever slows down.

Unless things have changed at Dish, which is entirely possible, they won't activate the 211, even as a replacement. I gave one to a customer a while back....which when I turned it off I made sure to tell the CSR I wanted it freed up so another customer could use it, I was assured it was.....and when they called to swap out there's they were told it couldn't be done. Now like I said, things MIGHT HAVE CHANGED.

It hasn't changed. When I cancelled my service the other day, they told me I didn't need to return the receiver (which I already knew because I purchased it).

But in addition to that, the young man told me not to sell it, but to take it to a recycling place. The reason he gave for the advice was because 211Ks can no longer be activated.

So as far as the VIP211k goes... once grandpa dies, he's dead.

I thought I would come here and find lots of complaints about the update to the dish anywhere mobile app, but am not seeing any. It used to look just like the desktop webpage. Now you can no longer filter by sports channels or movie channels. Plus that they made it look like a big button telephone and you see fewer channels in the screen which requires more scrolling. Yes I realize you can look at sports then select which sport you want to look at, I just liked being able to see all sporting events in the guide with all other channels being filtered out. Am I alone in the wilderness on this?

Apple has finally released their Apple TV 4K with built-in Siri and a microphone so it can respond to your queries even if you don't have the remote. It also increases in price, to $299. I had been planning on updating my current Apple TV 4K streamers, but that's $600 for the two of them, and that's a pass at this point.

At $299, it had better come with 256 GB of Storage, Gigabit (or better) Ethernet, the latest HDMI tech and standards, and one year of free Apple One. But it probably won't…

Meh. The 4Ks I have will do everything that these do that I need them to do.

Which that's most tech these days for anything released the last four to five years.

It's honestly a testament to how good the previous gen Apple TVs were and are.

Not a bit. IMO, Apple's are slow to boot up. Time is about the same with 1st gen and 3rd. Roku runs rings around them in that department. I only reason I stuck, is the Apple infrastructure, which has it's definite advantages. But $300 is a deal breaker. Later, Apple!

Yeah, they boot up a bit slower than Roku, but the OS does a lot more, so it makes sense. How often are you booting them up that is a differentiator? Aside from OS updates, mine are on all the time. I will say the ATV4K is generally quicker than the Roku Ultras I have, when it comes to launching apps and responsiveness, not that the Roku is sluggish.

I assume you mean services, like iCloud and Apple Music, and not actual software sales. Services have been growing quickly for Apple, but hardware still brings home the bacon. As for where Apple's revenue comes from, the iPhone is still king with 49.58% of revenue as of June 2026. Services comes in second with 28%. iPad, Mac, and Wearables/Home makes up the rest. So, that is 72% coming from hardware. Their profit margin is around 25%, FWIW.

I am skeptical the AppleTV 4k makes them much money on the hardware though, which I suspect is what you were getting at.

Just checked my account and it shows mgm+ at 8.00 per month, but that has red line drawn thru it and shows 0.00 per month. But it doesn't say how long this lasts,...... 1 month, 3 months, forever. I called customer service to get an answer, and they said nothing like that exists. Should I add the offer or not? Already paying them too much, but want to take advantage of something free.

Not for me, mines has no mention of how long aka the offer period and the Terms and conditions the $0.00 is good for. All I see is one can lose $5.00 if you decide to remove it before day 31 after you add it to the account.

I don't think Tim and Tony are that far apart in Age ...

Remember what Tony said to Tim when they first got back together ...
Tony said: I am the New Tony, Tim .... (something to that effect)

Tony has changed, he's been running his Security Business ... I'm sure he has grown up.

Give it time ... your judging the New Tony from the old Tony.

It sounds like Tim won't be around the Team much longer either.
