Just read an article in the June 2014 edition of The Spectrum Monitor. By Ken Reitz KS4ZR. Ken often talks about FTA in his column. This month he discusses the ASC1 DiSEqC Positioner Polarity Control from Titanium Satellite. Pretty cool!

What a great surprise to see Ken Reitz's article on the ASC1 and Titanium Satellite! I had no idea that there was to be an article until I opened the issue to review the ad. Ken has had a satellite system for many years and he was very enthusiastic when I shared our plans for product development. I enjoyed his historical perspective on the hobby and tying it into today's satellite hobbyists.

I subscribed several months ago after Mike Kohl mentioned that a new magazine had just launched and was very impressed with the content and layout. Contacted Ken to investigate advertising opportunities in The Spectrum Monitor then quickly found out about his interest in the technology and support for the hobbyist.

I understand that Mike Kohl will be regularly submitting satellite related articles and reviews and look forward to his excellent reports and insights! Highly recommend a subscription to the magazine if you have an interest in electronics, antennas, scanning, SDR, amateur radio and of course satellites.

Ken Reitz graciously has allowed me to post a copy of The Spectrum Monitor article about Titanium Satellite and the ASC1 here on SatelliteGuys. Great magazine for anyone interested in RF and amateur radio! For information or to subscribe to The Spectrum Monitor visit: http://www.thespectrummonitor.com

Thanks Titanium for posting and to Mr. Reitz for permission and the great article.

Not into amateur radio myself, and can't even spell RF so not a good subscription candidate but wish KR much success with his emag venture.

90,000 BUDs per month being installed in the mid-80s!?! Wow.

Ken has written a lot about FTA over the years. I cant help but think he had some influence in getting folks interested in the hobby.

Thanks to Fitch Ratings ( who gives the ratings on Credit and debt, as approved by the SEC, so they have accurate numbers) we have the totals.

DIRECTV's video subscriber base is the third-largest traditional multi-channel video programming distributor (MVPD) in the U.S. with about 8.2 million subscribers at the end of 1Q26.

The last time it was reported, it was 8.8M at the end of 2Q25, so only a 600,000 loss for 3 quarters, which is a major improvement, since for many years before that, it was losing 500,000 a quarter, 2 Million a year.

It is now losing less than Dish/Sling combined, I believe the Genre Packs are helping to retain and get subscribers.

They have one less as of May 15th. I just couldn't justify almost $150 a month any more. I went to Fubo. Edit: And I've been a Directv customer for 30 years!

When I( talked with them a few weeks ago, they called me.
They offered me the Choice package (I had the Ultimate) (I also wasn't in from of my computer , so I couldn't check things out)
I figured if they could beat $80, I'd listen ... her best offer was $120, PASS...

The package I HAD with Sat was costing me $140 ... again HARD PASS.

Personally, IF I ever went back with Sat, I would definitely take the HR54 ... but each set up is different from house to house, what works for you ... in reality, I would probably go streaming instead, as my needs have changed, I no longer need a portable recvr to use while camping.

Wipe out your cache/cookies for the site, could be a corrupt/local storage issue and that might help clear things up.

Also, make sure you don't have anything running either as a browser extension or a browser configuration option that deletes cookies (typically "delete cookies on exit").

The fact that you're having this problem suggests that you do.

Make sure the "keep me logged in" checkbox is ticked.

I kind of have the same issue but only on my iPhone or iPad. The "keep me logged in" checkbox is checked but after I login in works fine for that day but the next day I am always logged out but only on my iPad or iPhone. I have deleted cookies and ALL website data multiple times but it still happens over night every night unless I use a different browser. It only happens using Safari on the iPhone and iPad but not on my iMac. I have given up on it and just log back in everyday. I have checked settings but nothing has helped. And it didn't just start recently. It has been happening for quite a while. And it only happens here, DBSTalk and Facebook. All other websites keep me logged in even in Safari on iPad and iPhone.

Are you running any third-party antivirus/protection software on your iDevices?

That's because the one good thing the administration is doing is finally going after the fake and non-domiciled CDL drivers, opening the door to hire more valid drivers and hopefully will push the rates back up.

now let's get rid of the piss tanks and tampons off of diesels aka emissions crap since it can bankrupt someone!!! and get rid of ELD'S since they make some drivers drive like idiots trying to find a parking spot. starter mega carriers should not allow new drivers to train that's just a way for em to move cheap freight..

Well, i posted on another forum of a problem i was having. The 12000 transponder on 101ku has their AC3 signal whacked out. Been like that for awhile. My high end Audio receiver has much more pronounced glitches because it resets the audio when the glitch comes through. It's so annoying that i cannot listen to it. I figured out that if i turn on AC3 down-mix for the channels on the transponder, the audio glitches are resolved within the satellite receiver and sends a clean AC3 signal to the audio receiver. Now, there are still glitches, but its not very noticeable and am able to listen without being annoyed.

The problem is, its a pain to remember, oh for this channel i need AC3 pass-thru off, and this on, and run through the remote commands to enable/disable. I want 99.9% of the channels to be AC3 down-mix OFF. Only for the channels on this transponder do i want it On. Remedy. I wrote a E2 plugin that is very user friendly that i set the default mode, and then add the channels that i want opposite the default value, and the satellite receiver automatically turns AC3 down-mix on/off. Of course, its smart enough to only change the setting if it needs to.

Found two resolutions to the AC3 glitching :

Setup the channel as a RELAY channel, then the audio is perfect.

In another words, you set up an IPTV channel, that uses the following url :

Code:
http://[ip of e2]:[port (mine is 8001) / Channel Service Reference.

example :

Code:
http://IP:8001/1:0:1:2:1:0:816AEE0:0:0:0:

The other Option is just start a record. Then go into your movie list, and start watching the recording. You don't have to wait more then a couple seconds to start watching the recording, and since its recording, it will keep playing the stream. When your done watching the channel, stop the recording.

The recording trick does work to clean up the audio so it sounds good.

I have many folders of IPTV channels, but these were all set up using the iptv-org playlists plugin. On an Edision Mio+, I forget (or never knew) how to set up just one IPTV channel.

I use dreambox Edit 7.2.10 - That's what i use to modify my boutiques/favorites, and allows you to manually create a IPTV channel on the fly as a channel or edit the url/name of the IPTV channel.

The reason this works, apparently its a glitch in the DVB hardware. It is too strict, and the Gstreamer (which is whats used if your watching a stream or a file) is much more forgiving. I'm using a broadcom Si2166B and Si2166D tuner cards, so i suspect anyone using the same tuner card in their receivers would encounter the problem. Im curious if people using the FBC tuners have the same issue.

I don't think that is the specific bug to the problem. As if it was detected as LPCM, then there would be no audio, and it mentions specifically to ATSC broadcasts. You might inquire and see if there might be another answer or bug fix that would account for this specific situation. But, I'm glad to hear your issue has resolved...

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....
