Long time no post.

With all the buzz surrounding the yet to be released C/L Quad LNBF, I took to replacing the Std ASC321 LNBF on my motorized setup this afternoon. Back in business on several sats. However, I could not help but think about whether I would be pulling in stronger signal quality if I swapped it out to replace it with an Invacom 0.3db LNBF, specifically the soon to be released model. After doing some reading, I began to wonder whether I need the latest and greatest, or whether I could get by with an already proven Invacom LNBF, the single, Universal LNBF.

To assist those who might respond to provide me some guidance, note that I am using both the ASC321 Std. LNBF, as well as a circular FSS LNBF, together with a 22khz switch. By alternating the 22khz switch ON for the ASC321 Std. with a 10750 frequency designation, and the 22khz switch OFF for the circular FSS LNBF, I am able to pick up signals from several satellites with the assistance of my SG2100 Motor and .75 Hotdish.

Here's the question, to keep my access to all of the birds that I view and listen to radio on, do I need to get the latest and greatest (well not yet out) LNBF from Invacom, or can I use Invacom's single Universal LNBF with the 22khz switch and the circular FSS LNBF?

Please advise as to if the Universal can be used with the 22khz switch, the motor and the circular FSS LNBF. Also, should I expect improved reception by swapping either of Invacom's 0.3db LNBFs for my ASC321 Std. LNBF that has a noise factor of 0.55db?

Which Invacom

Cascade:

You're online. GREAT!!!

I trust that you are suggesting that I use the new Quad, once it is available, and use a DiSeq switch, to alternate between DSS and FSS.

Will my motor still work? What setting will I use for the motor to accept the change in Birds when selecting channels? I hope this does not sound too naive.

Finally, by any chance, would it be possible to use one of Invacom's existing low noise 0.3 DB Universal LNBFs in my configuration without having to spend the additional $50-60 and waiting for shipment of the Quad. As stated, I have a 22khz switch, if that is helpful.

Best regards, and thanks for your guidance.

Yep, your motor will work perfectly, the quad will be an instant hit and will probably be the last LNB you'll buy.
I have no clue on the Pansat motor settings, someone else who owns one will be able to help you there, it'll be in the manual or under USALS in the menu though.
If you want the single universal Invacom you'll need to ditch the 22KHz switch and invest the $14 or so on a diseqc switch to alternate between the DBS LNB and the FSS Invacom.

You're welcome :)
M
The motor will work with both setups (either the 2 LNB or the quad)

all you do is switch the LO frequency
11250 for DBS
UNiversal or 10600 22k on for FTA

Iceberg - Little more info please

Iceberg:

Thanks for your response.

You state that I could work with either the Quad or a single Invacom Universal LNB and the DBS LNB. If the former, then there should be no need for a 2nd LNB as the Quad contains circuity for both, correct?

If I go with a single Invacom Universal LNB with the DBS LNB, you had stated:

all you do is switch the LO frequency
11250 for DBS
UNiversal or 10600 22k on for FTA

Does this mean that I need to 22khz switch if I go with 2 LNBs or are you referring to the setting on my Antenna Settings Screen on the Fortec Lifetime, or both? Just trying to figure out what my next purchase and tinkering project will be.

Thanks for your guidance, as well as all that Cascade has provided. Your collective experience is truly appreciated.

Corerect…you would need a 2x1 DiSEqC switch to get both to the receiver.

If you do the 2 LNB theory, the setup for each one would be
DBS Lo frequency would be 11250 and DiSEqC would be port 2 (as an example)
The KU band you can do it 2 different ways. Port 1 for sure : )
You can set it for Universal 1 and the settings would be right. But since we really don't use the LO band (sans PAS9), for scanning quickness, have it as Standard and change LO to 10600 and turn 22K on. The LNB will ALWAYS be on high band. The only one I use Universal for is Pas9 (since its low band)

They were high-end specialty, somewhat buggy and the 612/622/722 just overwhelmed it in popularity.
HipKat
I think they were more of a transitional receiver bridging the VIPs to the Hopper. They were a PITA to install and were buggy. Personally, I thought at the time that they were the best receiver out there. The versatility of the VIP's with the new Hopper GUI and, by far, the coolest-looking front plate and lighting.

Well if it is because of reliability that wouldnt shock me.I went through 5 or 6 of them in little over 2 years. I loved the Sling when it worked! Saved lots of money having it in the day. That was probably 15 or 16 years ago?

I don't recall that they came out just before hopper, but rather that they came out even before 722. Or could be thinking of 921.

As to the title pf the post, "rare" does not necessarily mean valuable or desirable.

You are thinking of the 921. The 922 was the first DVR with Sling functionality built in (that was eventually disabled along with the Sling Adapter for the 722s and the 1st Hopper because they relied on now-defunct Adobe Flash technology). With the bugginess described by others and the removal of its marquee feature (Sling) the 922 faded into obscurity once the Hopper 2 with built in Sling was released and they finally made the concept into a fully functional product.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Has anyone noticed an FF stutter with 713? I used to be able to hit FF a few times and skip smoothly. After 713 (maybe 712), when I skip forward, there is a definite stutter for as many times as I have pressed FF.

Can anyone check on this and report back? Recorded programs and then press skip forward a few times to see if it's smooth? Normally, it just jumps to the right place after the skips.

My wife mentioned that her remote is acting strange this morning. She hit FF and it went to 15x FF.

It's a known issue.
For a temporary fix, go into the menu, Audio, and turn Dolby Audio "OFF". You will have PCM stereo audio.

I was able to give the tech ops team some data logs so they could diagnose the problem, and they rolled me back to H708 temporarily. It fixed that issue.

They let me know that they understand what caused the issue, and it will be fixed within a few weeks in a new update.

I guess they will be busy when lots of people start asking for rollbacks to H708 now that you mention that downgrades of software does exist because it will likely fix the OTA Single Tuner and the IR Remote problems in H710-H713.

Stargate SG-1 cancelled, Atlantis renewed

The future of Stargate is in question today, as SCI FI Channel has cancelled the long-running Stargate SG-1, Multichannel News reported today and a GateWorld source has confirmed. The news regrettably follows the airing of the show's milestone two-hundredth episode on Friday.

Stargate Atlantis, meanwhile, has been renewed for a fourth season, with the network hoping to see that the spin-off series can stand alone, according to a source.

Well, there are a couple involving the Antarctic. "Solitudes", S1 E17 (one of my favorites), Then, "Lost City', S7 E21 and E22. Then, in the SGA pilot, "Rising", S1 E1 and E2, it starts out in the Antarctic for about the first 20 minutes or so.

Season 2 order already in hand:

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

There would still be dirt ,dust in the future I am sure. So walking around the station like she did she would get stuff on her feet. I am sure the robot vacuum is still going to miss stuff, with all those different alien species running around there.

I don't know, but I still don't like her walking through the station or the academy with out her shoes. It looks unprofessional and very "hippy like" for someone of her status and I personally don't get off to feet, so there is that. ;)
