A few months behind schedule but it's time! Tuesday is the day.
First priority was getting my subscription dishes set up because I'm paying for that TV so I want it up and going ASAP. And I watch a LOT of the BBC..
I do have the luxury of moving piecemeal so I don't have to be in a huge rush to get everything over there at once. My FTA dishes ARE GOING but it will be a few weeks. There is a KU dish on an HH motor there now which will get me Retro and a few others I like, that will hold me over until I get the other dishes moved.
I also have to get the fence finished on the side where the FTA dishes go, when they were drilling holes in the ground for the fence they hit a gas line and made a HUGE leak that scared the whole neighborhood. That shut down everything for the day and my fence line had to get shifted over which I wasn't happy about.
At least we now know where everything is buried so I won't have to worry when I plant the poles for my FTA dishes. The smaller dishes are going three foot down, the 10' C-band and the 1.8m Prodelin are going SIX FEET IN, I want 5 feet above ground so I need two 11' x 4.5" poles.
Over the years I've suffered a lot of grief from my FTA adventures. Mostly because of poles not put in plumb and or put in not deep enough. For my subscription dishes I got three schedule 40, 3" by 8' galvanized poles. My dad drilled holes 18" from the bottom and put some painted rebarb through so they can not spin in the cement. I had the handyman drill three, three foot deep holes when he was drilling holes for my fence. I had to use a hand digger to make them bigger around so I could get LOTS of cement in.
I mixed up cement till it was like crunchy peanut butter, nice and thick and well mixed so there was no dry stuff in it. I dropped the poles in and I clamped TWO digital inclinometers to the pole at 45 degrees from each other PLUS I stuck some of those needle type inclinometers and a bubble level to the poles and I set them to be PERFECTLY PLUMB. Absolutely dead on, 90 degrees plumb. Each one. Once I got them plumb I just backed off and rested awhile to let the cement set up a little, after about half an hour I checked them again and they were still dead on perfect so I very carefully removed all the levels and meters without disturbing the poles.
Today I went and ran RG-11 end to end and tacked it up properly along the eves of the garage (Yes, it's ugly, it's getting new siding soon). With my very excellent meter I expect that I'll get excellent performance from my dishes and that they will be indestructible and trouble free.
This is exactly the same way I am going to do my FTA dishes. I am taking my time and remembering all my past mistakes and griefs and doing it RIGHT this time. Also I this time I get the luxury of planning out where they go. The mish mash of randomly placed dishes here at my old house are not entirely my doing, my ex started that mess. I just went with it because I didn't know any better. Now I do.
It's really nice when you get a clean slate to work with and you can do it the way you want. And even better after you've learned the hard way what not to do.
My A3 is still on the blink, I haven't had time to try and fix it yet, Brian at Titanium sent me directions on how to fix it but I've been so busy prepping for moving that I just haven't had time. I hope next week I can give it a try because I would like to get back to recording my favorite shows..
There's also my OTA antenna system that I'm going to do as well, I have a matched pair of 91XG's and the fiberglass tubes for mounting them. I just need to get a tower to get them up to 30 feet. I have a pair of thrust bearings for the motor so that should really help as well. And of course EVERYTHING from now on is RG-11. I bought a 1,000 spool of the stuff. There's enough to do everything I will ever think of plus I need to install an FTA system for my dad at his new home. He really, really likes his PBS. He totally digs the Oklahoma feeds.

There is a sketch of the plate. I made it from 2mm thick INOX.
You will also need some other details like piece of 22mm pipe (inner diameter 20mm), 8mm long nut, etc.

It is possible to make new LNB holder for any offset dish but sometimes it is not so easy to measure the working area of the dish (WOD) and calculate it's main parameters like position of the focus (F), offset angle, opening angle, position of the "point G"- point on the surface of the dish where imaginary line from LNB hits the dish. I will make an example on Channel Master 1,2m dish (perfect dish, even it is old and used, it still better than any new, made of tin dish). Everything, what I write here is IMHO, so you can agree or disagree, up to you.
Vertical dimension of the WOD, distance between points A and B (I marked those points on the attached picture) is exactly 1300mm. Horizontal size of the WOD is 1200mm. Offset angle of CM1,2m is 22,6* , opening angle (angle A-F-B) is 80* and F/D ratio is .6. Another important distances here are: A-F=1220mm, B-F=720mm, G-F=814mm.
The trickiest here is how to co-locate LNB's Phase center with antenna's focus. But when it is done then we can get maximum performance of SAT-system. Of course, LNB with proper illumination angle (in case of CM1,2m LNB's illumination angle should be about 80* to match antenna's opening angle), should be used.
For holder I made for Ku-band, position of the Focal point of the dish is about 20mm from the edge of the clamp, and clamp is about 31mm up of the edge of the long nut. This distance can be corrected when antenna is pointed to satellite. And knowing elevation of chosen satellite and offset angle of the dish we can adjust the position of the LNB with the precision up to 1mm.

There is holder I made for friend of mine. He wanted it for his Channel Master 1,2m to fit 70mm feedhorn on it. With this holder is also possible to move LNB closer/further to the dish.

Hotel rooms have gone unfilled as the prices to attend a game and stay somewhere are through the roof. I swear this is impacting Mansfield, OH hotel rates which are higher than average for the Indycar race. And there is a broadening VAR presence which will ruin things as nothing worse now when scoring a goal and knowing you can't quite celebrate yet as they check to see if a player was offside by a pixel a half-hour ago.
The Group Stage used to mean something, but now 32 of the 48... yeah, 48 teams are going to the Knockout Round. Getting into the Knockout Round used to be a big deal, even for the US. But now... if you don't lose all of your group stage games, you get to move on. Oi! And this is avoiding all the political stuff!
I have never been so unexcited for a World Cup before. Every game used to matter. But FIFA be darned if they don't try to squeeze out every dime they can out of the players, refs, and fans.

So...DirecTV advertises the Choice package with 95+ bonus channels for Satellite customers. You don't want 90+ of the 95...
Excluding PPV, premium networks, infomercial, shopping, religion, and non-English programming, there are 7 channels on satellite that are not on streaming:
NFL Network, MavTV, FE TV, Free Speech, NASA, INSP, and Pursuit. I'm pretty sure a couple of those are public interest that they have to carry to meet an FCC quota on satellite.
I hope they get called out for this advertising because that is ridiculous. One big network, NFL, will probably get added to streaming when their next agreement comes up, and the rest are likely very low viewership.
What about streaming, what do you get extra with the Choice package that isn't on Satellite:
Two stations - one of which is an internet TV - Fox Weather, and Heros & Icons (a diginet). Nothing special here to look at either.
If they cleaned up a couple of their agreements, added a few public interest stations to streaming, they could probably have their lineups match. It's close now, if you take out all the garbage on satellite that they earn money on. If they can sell infomercials on satellite, why can't they on streaming, seems like a miss. A bigger miss, including those stations in the "bonus channels just for satellite customers." Pretty sad marketing right there.
Attached is a comparison sheet of satellite vs streaming for the three main packages if anyone is interested.

Hello everyone, new guy here. I'm trying to solve problem I'm having with Dish bonus view channels. When I'm watching the bonus view channels then I switch back to regular dish channels, after few minutes the screen flips to black and after 30 seconds flips back to regular channels and continues to flip back and forth until I turn off TV. After I wait 30 minutes and turn back on , I can use regular channels again. So, its after I switch from bonus view channels to regular dish channels the problem starts. Been trying to fix this for a month, but no luck
Here what I've done.
i contacted Dish support and they sent me a new Joey3, but no help. Switched to a different HDMI input on TV, no help. Used different HDMI cable , no help. Used different electrical wall plug, no help.
Finally got a Dish tech to check it. He ran all systems check and was OK. Finally he brought in a small TV and plugged in the HDMI out from the Joey to the small TV. He could not get the problem to occur on his small TV, so the new Joey was working OK. So, then the problem must be myTV. He made some phone calls and came back with the answer that there must be a problem with the analog to digital switch in my TV. Has anyone ever heard of a problem like this, or is it time to be looking for a new TV? My tv LG OLED65C8PUA. TV has been trouble free til now. Thanks
