Trying to decide what type of antenna would be the best fit for my location. Here's my TV Fool report:

?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29&q=id=8e03cd0c2f73f0

I actually did have a directional antenna here many years ago but I'd like to avoid having to use a rotator again if possible. I'll be happy if I can just get the major networks out of Baltimore (ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox) which are all at about 99 degrees.

Ideally, I'd like to put it inside the attic but I'm not sure if any antenna would be strong enough for that. ...I do have a fair amount of room up there though and the construction is particle board, plywood and tar paper with shingles.

I'm towards the top of a hill but not quite at the top. There are a fair amount of trees in the area but none within several hundred feet of 99 degrees.

The plan is to use a pre-amp and then a couple distribution amps to feed the signal throughout the house.

Thanks for the help.

I hate to express doubts but I think you are going to need a large size combo like the Winegard HD7698P to have any chance at the VHF channels. It's frustrating that Solid Signal continues to market their 8 bay UHF antenna as a good VHF choice. An 8 bay will sometimes work OK for VHF if it is LOS under 20 miles, but looking at your Tvfool it think it is very unlikely it will work for you. WJZ 13 will be a real bitch to pick up at your location. They broadcast a very directional signal to the east. You may have a better shot at a full set of networks by looking at Washington.

* There is someone in Gaithersburg on Craigslist with several NIB AntennaCarft HBU55's for sale at $50. This would also be a very good choice for you to try.

Thats a good deal and the HBU55 is a great antenna. I had a HBU44 and it worked good in Minneapolis

I agree and disagree. :) I've never tried the Solid Signal 8 bay UHF antenna, but I do know that a DB8 8 bay antenna receives several VHF channels 40 to 45 miles away from Philadelphia, including channel 6 which is even in the lower VHF band with very good signal strength and no video breakups.

I had wanted to test the Stellar Labs 8 bay antenna to see how well it performs, but didn't get a chance.

Thanks for pointing this out. When I looked at the HDB8X on another site last night I noticed it was only rated for 25 miles for VHF. ..so I was already worried about that. The HBU55 on Craig's list looks like a steal. Only downside is that it will be pretty ugly mounted outside. Not that I mind or anything. ...but the wife does. :)

I agree that pointing to Washington might be a better option. The only problem there is that I'm a Steelers fan and Baltimore stations tend to carry more games since it's the same conference.

I own one and let's say the vhf specs arent the best ;)

I have one vhf station in my area in the only time it would come in is when it was really humid and the antenna was facing 90 degrees from the actual location. So sw instead of nw

Just thought I'd provide an update for those who were kind enough to offer some advice.

I went up into the attic today to measure for the HBU55 that pamajestic recommended. While I was up there, I decided to hookup an old combo antenna that used to be on the roof (I really want this to work in the attic if possible). I pointed to DC (160 degrees) as suggested instead of Baltimore. Anyway, I ended up getting 3 of the 4 networks I'm targeting plus 7 or 8 other channels that I'll probably never watch. WJLA and WUSA are coming in pretty well (around 60%). I'm getting NBC only WHAG out of Hagerstown instead of DC. Not sure how that's happening since i'm not even pointing that direction. The DC NBC station was picked up by the TV I tested with in the attic but the signal was too weak to view. So I'm only missing FOX at this point and there is no sign of it whatsoever.

I have no idea what antenna this is. ...I think maybe a Channel Master but it was many years ago that I bought it. The boom is around 85" and it's nearly as wide. The UHF portion is 36" long. Right now I have it hooked up to an old Channel Master amp because there's a splitter in the attic going to the bedrooms. ...so a pre-amp won't really work. A second 10db amp is also hooked up on the first floor and at this point I'm receiving all channels on 8 different TV's in the house.

The problem now is that the HBU55 is going to be too big to fit because of the way it needs to be angled. I'm pretty sure it would hit into those trusses. Anyway, I've got around 126" in length to work with if I'm going to get Fox and complete this mission.

Any suggestions on an antenna that's better than this one that would fit up there? Max width needs to be somewhere around 80" but I can probably maneuver it around the trusses it it's slightly bigger than that. ...and I have no idea if that amp is the best for the job so I'll take any advice I can get on that as well.

Would the HD Stacker be a good option here? I've read the claims about it but I don't know enough to know if it's legit.

Thanks again to all for the help on this.

Terrible tragedy. You would think that they would have safe guards in place that would prevent something like this from happening. I guess if you are going to ride in a passenger train it might be best to get a car near the rear.

They will have to look at the switching sections to determine WHY 2 trains were on the same track ... at the same time.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

That goes for a lot of people. I've been advertising on radio for more than a decade now and am very familiar with this subject. While it is still a valuable tool, it has far less impact than it did just a few years ago. The best reaction I get is from a local Country music station....they play a mix of older and newer music and have a very big footprint.

Do you do any Ad's on Satellite ?

If Not, why not, because it's not Local ?

No, just regular FM stations. One is the country station I mentioned and the other is a Talk Radio station which used to get fantastic results but honestly, since the death of Rush Limbaugh, talk radio just doesn't do as well. There were two guys who had an early morning show which was hugely popular here in the southeast but one of them retired a couple years ago and the show just doesn't garner the same numbers as it used to.

You knew the answer before you asked it.

I can't recall having encountered a local ad on Sirius, and I don't imagine it is any different on XM.

For those dazn nba channels are they sat only or sat & streaming
K
Both, and they just made it official with a multiyear deal that also includes TV Everywhere authentication for the DAZN app, and commercial distribution.

DIRECTV, the premier provider of digital television entertainment in the United States, and DAZN, the world's leading sports entertainment platform, today announced a new multi-year distribution agreement for local telecasts of Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana Pacers, Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves, and San Antonio Spurs games for DIRECTV streaming, satellite, and U-verse customers in each team's respective NBA-designated home territories.

These DAZN telecasts will be available to DIRECTV customers who subscribe to the Choice or higher packages and to U-verse TV customers who subscribe to the U200 or higher package. Each of DAZN's team services provides live pregame, postgame, and in-game coverage for the respective team.

In the coming weeks, customers who receive access to these teams via DIRECTV will also be able to login to the DAZN platform at no additional cost using their DIRECTV login credentials.

This agreement also provides distribution rights to each of the five NBA teams to all of DIRECTV FOR BUSINESS' thousands of sports bars, restaurants, fitness clubs, and other commercial venues located within each team's respective region.

I know HipKat said that they were working on conversions but we got the official news yesterday right from Dish that starting next month all DMA's will be on the western arc, and all customers will be assigned to that. That's gonna mean a lot of customers around here aren't gonna get Dish unless there are exceptions. Too many mountains and trees.
