Who runs the film studio? Who gets the keys to the TV kingdom? And will a Murdoch be in line for Bob Iger's throne?

There are more questions than answers as the possibility of Disney acquiring the 20th Century Fox studio and other significant assets from 21st Century Fox appears to be gaining steam. CNBC reported Tuesday morning that a deal valued at $60 billion or more could be struck as early as next week.

Disney-Fox Deal: Who Would Stay, Who Would Go if Murdochs Decide to Sell

Well, it would be a good deal from a Marvel fan's perspective. Disney owns Marvel, but 20th Century Fox still has the TV and movie rights to the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and some other Marvel characters. So, with a merger, perhaps there will finally be an Avengers / X-Men crossover movie.

Won't ever happen. There's no way the Justice Dept. allows that scale of a merger to go through.

I watched the three main soaps on ABC back in my 20s because I worked grave yards stocking and would watch them on my VCR in the afternoons when I got up after sleeping in the day. When I went to a dept. manager in the mornings, my buddy from the other department at Safeway and I would often go to eat at Mr. Ghatti's Pizza on our lunch break and they had a big box screen TV in the 80s we could watch the soap on which was All My Children at noon. "Tad the Cad" was our favorite soap guy. He was the shampoo guy at his birth mother's beauty shop and he seduced both mother Marion and her daughter Liza at the same time. Loved it when they both found out about the other.

Talk about "Love in the Afternoon" with Fireworks! :biggrin

The best I could do was remember the name of the soap everyone was watching (All My Children). You could rip my finger nails out and I couldn't give you character names or plot info. :biggrin

Amnesia, affair, needless meddling, evil plotting character.

I remember one time waiting in the hospital waiting area and they had a soap on (no audio) and we were having fun adlib'ing the scenes.

Mama Foxbat was big into soaps, "Ryan's Children" was one I remember, and a young Kate Mulgrew before she got her Captain's pips.

My understanding is Echostar is to purchase the assets of Dish Wireless as part of this Chapter 11 filing, along with discharging the debt it owes on essentially all the leases it has with landlords the towers are on.

EchoStar is providing the "stalking horse" bid. This is when the court has someone make a bottom case bid for assets- dish wireless in this case. Once the bidding is open, other higher value bids will be considered. And, the bids are not necessarily strictly the best monetary offer. For example, a lower bid with a guarantee to provide some other type of action -perhaps guaranteeing service, or protecting employees, doing something extra for debt holders, etc.- would also be considered by the judge.

Oh sure, I get that they can be outbid. Am I wrong the the main goal here is to discharge what is due on the leases for the towers? And if that is discharged, how do those assets have any value? Renegotiate new leases?

Yes - they are attempting to walk away from the leases.

But, the tower companies requested and got time to dig through the books.
They allege that significant wireless assets were moved to EchoStar in a preplanned effort to remove them from control of the bankruptcy court, leaving little for the tower companies to fight over.
If, true, the tower companies will want those $$$ returned for disbursement in the Dish Wireless bankruptcy. And, it is a lot of money.

BK Court does not take kindly to shenanigans of any kind, if there are discrepanices, they'll find them!

Hopefully the judge blocks the transfer over to echostar and or someone out bids them

Not a surprise, Starlink has really picked up a lot of former Hughes customers, both consumers ( which Hughes stop offering service to new subscribers) and businesses.

They started losing subscribers well before that-

Subscriber Timeline
  • December 2020: 1.56 million subscribers (peak around Starlink's launch)
    Early 2022: 1.4 million subscribers
Late 2023: Over 1 million subscribers

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

I have a question. I am having jittering/stuttering across the entire TP spectrum. I'm seeing it at 4060 and 4100 and even higher. Is this a normal thing. I would have thought you would only see it on the lower frequencies closer to what was taken from Cband a few years back. This problem crept up about 3-4 months ago, and before i just throw money at the problem by investing in a filtered LNBF, i want to do a bit of checks and balance with you folk.

My stuttering appears as often as every 20-30 seconds and sometimes it doesn't happen but every 20 minutes or so. I seem to have solid locks on the signal. This is on a smaller 8' Solid Cband dish. I swapped out a different LNBF. Same result.

If the advice is to get a new filtered LNBF, would I be looking at the Titanium RED or BLUE band pass filter?

Titanium
Not a lot to go on here, but....
The size of the dish can provide a narrower beamwidth, but it is no more or less susceptible to terrestrial interference. Terrestrial interference either enters the feedhorn directly from the sides or as a reflection off of the dish or other nearby surfaces. A deeper dish with better FD ratio is better at rejecting terrestrial interference. Could also be an issue with the scalar setting and rejection of adjacent satellite interference.

What is the transponder frequency, symbol rate and FEC? Does the SQ drop out randomly or never lock?
iBoston
Sorry for the delay.. Busy day yesterday. The signal never locks, except on one occasion, I left it on the service for hours, I came back and realized at some point a signal was momentary locked, because i had a partial image on the tv.

Not characteristic of 5G C- band interference. Do you have access to a spectrum analyzer?

No. I suppose i can try a spare lnbf. I have a few being i've swapped a few for the filtered one. This just happened less than a week ago. I had no issues with the signal before that, and like i said, i can swing my 10' over and pick up the transponder without issue. We haven't had any wind storms and i fine tuned it a bit and made no progress.
iBoston
Well.. I have yet to do anything since i fine-tuned and still had no signal. However, at the moment, the transponder is beaming in perfectly at a higher dB than before i fine-tuned. I don't know what's up? Some temporary interference, or if its a fluke that i am getting the signal lock now and it will be gone tomorrow.

For years I have tried to get KRWG-TV from New Mexico State University (see my avatar). I could get a usable signal back in the analog days but when they went digital they moved their tower which is behind a tall mountain in my line of sight. I do get an occasional stable signal on some mornings if I turn my antenna that way but otherwise gave up on it long ago.
I was very excited when I read on their web site that they now provide an OTA signal for El Paso. However, when I dug into the technical details on rabbit ears I expected trouble when I read that they are using the same rf 23 as the main signal. Also, I am over 18 miles from the 3.15 KW transmitter.
Sure enough, when I scanned for new channels the signal breaks up continually and has only occasional audio. I am getting a signal strength of 92 but signal quality of only 10. This is with a moderate GE attic/outdoor antenna with clear line of sight to KFOX's tower (that KRWG is using in El Paso). I also tried the 4 bay antenna I put up for my neighbor at a higher 20 feet with the same results.
I suspect the problem to be that I get just enough of the main channel 23 to interfere with the local signal. Ten years ago I would have been tempted to try a higher and more directional antenna but I am a bit past that stage at this point. I also feel the chances of success are rather slim.
I wonder if KRWG wanted to use the same rf 23 or were forced into the situation as there are almost no empty slots on UHF in this area. I almost wish they hade used high VHF.
Do any members know of any area where these multi-transmitter set ups work well? They claim it will be feasible with ATSC 3.0 but I am not holding my breath for that.
I thought this would be interesting for members who frequent this site. Below is my rabbit ears report.

Of course, if/when KENW does allow us to stream, it'll piss off KNME, but AFAIK the law is the law... if they're both in the same DMA we have to receive equal access..

Not sure they continue to this day depending on their budget. :hatsoff2 🤔

Not ready to go back to tape either, though I do have a Teac A4300 reel-to-reel deck for some tapes that I still have from back in the day. I have 1000+ CDs, 200+ LPs, 375-400 BDs. I also have digital media on flash and internal & external HDDs and SSDs. I'm not trusting cloud storage as it's out of my hands and can be "oops'd" too easily. Next for me: a NAS with multiple drives for redundancy...
