Hi All,
Thought I'd throw this question out to the experts.
I have a Radio Shack 9 Foot mesh dish in my garage attic just gathering dust and I'd like to put it to good use.
This dish is in great condition. I bought it new in 1991 and used for 11 years prior to my move to Cape Cod.
As some of you may know, my current dish a KTI 7.5 was slightly damaged in its transition (about 3 years ago), from its 20 foot perch to a more reasonable height of 8 feet. One of the ribs was slightly bent and my efforts to return it to a reasonable parabolic shape haven't been too successful. Until the accident it was a great performer receiving all the C and Ku I threw at it.
Unfortunately the R.S. dish mount didn't age too well thanks to my poor storage efforts and so I would like to find a way to mount the R.S.dish onto the KTI mount. I need some good ideas from my fellow FTA enthusiasts.
I must tell you first and foremost I'm not a welder and so this would have to be most likely done using other means, if at all possible.

I had reception on two 78W transponders.
The reception on 3995V 23000 was inconsistent between 11-18 db and unable to maintain a lock.
The reception on 3922V 3002 was a steady 6-7db with a lock but un-viewable on my stb.
Yes...after setting south I rotated the dish a bit to find 78W and I did adjust the elevation a bit as you mentioned in post 173.
I DID NOT touch the declination.

This is may be the longest thread (196 posts) I've ever had on Satellite Guys.
After trying to align this dish to a more perfect parabolic shape and not having much luck I finally made the decision to purchase a new dish. My wife, who I said is not a big dish fan, but who appreciates my compassion for this hobby said that it was time to let it go and get a new dish. She saw the time and effort I was putting into this and the lack of appreciable results I was having.
The initial string test on this dish while not perfect, was within an acceptable range IMHO and better than the string test on my old KTI. Yet the old KTI gave me a signal where the Radio Shack dish didn't. I spent several days working on improving the shape with some minor success, but still no appreciable increase in signal. I also worked on trying to aim the feedhorn better, again with no real results.
I hate to let this dish go as it was my first foray into FTA in 1991, but it is what it is. So I will be taking this dish apart this week along with my old KTI dish and if no one is interested in either, I will scrap them. Before scrapping I will advertise both on Craigslist, but I'm not hopeful.
I offered my RS dish to .Raine as he owns a RS dish and might appreciate not only the panels, but the original dish motor and other various RS dish parts. If he's not interested and any of you are, in either dish, please let me know soon as I not holding on to these dishes for long as I don't want a BUD scrap yard.
After reading reviews especially Alan Rovner's, I bought an 8 foot solid from Satellites Galore/Tek 2000 for a good price IMHO. Less than my RS dish in 1991 for sure. I will post my "adventures" with that dish assembly in another thread.

Well, it's sad that you didn't get better reception results! 
Is the feedarm the original feed-arm belonging to the dish? So with feedhorn at the one and only focal point of the dish, and feedhorn adapted to the f/D-ratio of the dish?

Hi All,
Just a quick update.
Against all odds, I found a good home for both dishes via Craigslist and they wont be going to scrap as I originally feared.
The "buyer" will be stopping by on Monday to pick them up as I'm still taking the RS dish apart.
He's is going to use the KTI initially as part of a Christmas decoration with plans to return it to FTA service in the spring.
He also plans on returning the RS dish to service also in the spring. He has a RS parts dish, is a metal fabricator and is anxious to get back in the hobby.
I feel better letting these dishes go, now knowing they aren't going to scrap.

Hmmm, I'm not seeing anything like those events in our Hopper 3 guide for tonight or Saturday.
I went into the Tools menu and requested a Guide Update. I'll try looking at it after the update completes.
edit — I now have the 148-01 4KFox events for Saturday, but not anything for 148-02 or 148-03 which don't even show as available channels. I do have 148-04 4KUSA.
As I recall you have the Flex package. Do you sub to multisport? -02 is FS1 and -03 is ESPN. -01 is Fox so you would get that if you sub to locals.Hmmm, I'm not seeing anything like those events in our Hopper 3 guide for tonight or Saturday.

For quite a while now, people with a VIP211k have been losing their recordings on their activated external HDDs... even when there's nothing physically wrong with HDD. I believe this is an intentional and underhanded tactic that Dish is pulling in an attempt to force users away from the VIP211k.
They are obviously regretting that they ever let users have a "non-dvr" dvr in the first place. You would think they would be happy charging you a $40 one time fee... and then be happy letting the customer be the one responsible for HDD failures.
Dish clearly hates the 211k bitter-clingers. This recording deletion problem is intentional (IMO), and I think it is just one more tool that they are using. Hopper and a 2-year agreement... that's what they want you to have. Think about that... a 2-year agreement... with a company $30 Billion in debt (that's with a B). What happens when all that debt causes them to drop the channel that may have been your whole reason for having Dish in the first place? Guess who's stuck with a service that no longer suits their needs... for the remainder of the 2-year agreement.
On top of that, they don't want you to install it yourself. I purchased and installed all my equipment myself. That used to be common. Now, they lie to me and tell me that my dish must be updated to use a Hopper. Funny thing is... they don't even know what dish I have because they didn't install it, and I didn't tell them. If you ask what type of dish/LNBs the hopper needs... good luck getting an answer. All they know is that whatever you have needs to be upgraded by an installer.
It is quite apparent to me that they care much more about staying in their box, than they do working with the customer. That's too bad, because it hasn't always been that way. It's like they are totally unaware of the current business environment that they are trying to compete in.
I have been a customer since 2010. I will be cancelling my service before the next period. Yeah, I know, my $1,200 a year won't make a difference to them. It just seems like they have forgotten who needs who, especially when you consider the competition in today's streaming world. But hey, they will have succeed in forcing me off the 211k.
