New Dish

Hi All,

My new, solid 8 foot dish arrived this afternoon, a week late, from Satellites Galore/Tek2000.
I'm a bit worried as to the condition of the panels. Even though the box is labeled in several places as fragile, the top is almost totally opened. Peering in I see broken styrofoam and a small scratch on the edge of one of the panels. I'll know more about the condition of the panels tomorrow when I inspect closer. The pole arrived totally sealed and that box is undamaged.
I'm still awaiting the third box containing the mount.

Hi All,

Once again I must call on the experts here to help me solve this issue I'm having.
The new dish is up and passes the string test perfectly. I attached the LNBF and its centered to the middle of the dish. I'm using the proper elevation angle 42.65 and the declination angle 48.5. I'm also pointing true south and aiming for 78W.
Yet I have no signal.
I switched out coax cable to see if that was the issue...its fine. I tried adjusting the LNBF, no change. Since this is a new dish I want to make sure I'm measuring at the proper locations.
Picture 1 is elevation spot I'm using. Picture 2 is declination spot I'm using.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Elevation seems ok, but this dish seems to have no good place check declination, but like Brct203 says a long straight edge like he says!

I'm using a Sathero300 HD meter and it does show some signal on a signal bar "meter" when I move in the vicinity of 78W. Its just that I receive no strong signal or db reading. It really has me puzzled as I've been doing this for 28 years. Analog signals were so much easier to find.

I'm anxious to get this done before the really cold weather moves in. Today will be in the 30's with 10-15 mph winds.
Thanks for your suggestions. I'll give it another go today.

Hi All,

Well I finally got a steady and strong signal on 78w (3885V 23000) of 13.1 db.
The inclinometer I was using wasn't totally accurate, making me off a few degrees with elevation and declination. Must have dropped it one too many times. Found my old reliable inclinometer and found 78W in minutes.
I'm glad I accomplished this before tomorrow's N.E. 2 day storm.
Thanks to all who helped.

78W is a good starting place. Although your measured angles may be good, probably not going to snag a signal right off.
Choose a strong tp on 78 from sat charts and your footprint. What signal meter are you using? Receiver? Or hand held?
Reference where your elevation is. Try dropping it a little (looks easier than dec. from here). Just a degree or 2. Swing the dish l/r and see if you can get a signal.
I see you may have an actuator. You can take the motor off and turn the shaft with a vice grip.
Keep track of your movements. Try a little lower on elevation. Swing your dish. Go back to where it was first (elevation).
Do the reverse and raise it. Once you get a signal then it's a task tweaking it all in to get your arc tweaked perfectly.
Probably will want to have a pad and pencil handy.

Thanks for your response.
All is well with my dish and I'm getting a good signal on all the satellites I've landed on.
I still have some tweaking to do to fine tune some signals, but I'm very pleased with the dish's performance so far.

USA Healthcare Costs are Ridiculous

Pissed off at the crappy healthcare costs

My health Insurance renewal for 2027 just came in. Going from $827 a month to $1,187 a month. Deductible going up a $1k to $9,350. Max out of pocket also going up $1k to $11,000. Doctor co-pay of $40. Urgent Care co-pay $50. ER 50% coinsurance after deductible. That's all in network. Out of network is double, should it be needed.

Have to think about this. I'm really tempted to just go without now. I only go to the doctor once or twice a year. I pay out of pocket for Tirzepitide and can do without the Rosuvastatin (crestor) now. Really tired of spending over $10k a year and getting nothing out of it.

After years with Blue Cross I switched last year to Ambetter as my Blue Cross premium was going from $1200 to $1800 for a Silver plan and the Bronze plan was still going to be $1300 at BCBS. Ambetter was $827 for the same coverage with a Bronze plan. Didn't think it would jump this much so soon.

I'm guessing a Silver plan is probably over $2,000 a month for 2027.

I didn't start it as a political statement and have no interest in the political BS of this country. Everyone wants to make everything political nowadays. This was just my rant over the outrageous increase in my premiums and how unaffordable healthcare is becoming to the average person here.

There are no dues to be paid to be in the Pit. You just have to use the password which is clearly shown when you try to log in to it.

Dish Hopper and Dish Hopper Plus No Alexa in settings

I have Dish Hopper and Hopper Plus and also have Alexa Echo. I link the Alex skill to Dish and it asks me to enter the pairing code shown on the TV. I go into Dish Settings and there is no Alexa shown. Not sure what to do.

Understood. But here's the rub - Google Assistant setup is ALSO missing from the Hopper Plus setup. I'm a paraplegic.and need to use voice controls as much as possible but I can't press a button on the remote to activate Google Assistant. I prefer ALEXA (or ALEXA+) but I have one older google device and will go that route IF they make it available. BTW calling Dish Customer Service is no help- they just say they have no info on if/when there will be an update.

I stand up from my chair with my glass in one hand and my plate in the other, when a story I really want to hear comes on the TV. So I say, "Alexa, pause DISH", and it waits for me to return from the kitchen, at which time I say, "Alexa, resume DISH".

Or maybe, when I return with a full glass in one hand and a new plate in the other, I realize I forgot to pause to hear this good story from its start. So I say, "Alexa, skip DISH backwards 3 minutes", and I still get to catch the whole story.

I use this every day. Or until I acquire a third hand.

It turns out I was justified in my suspicion.

Does that raise, or lower, the overall price? Our State Government has been doing everything it can to minimize the impact of the current situation and put a freeze on the State Taxes on fuel sales at the pump. That's why we're still under $4.00/gal. while across the border in Michigan it's much higher.

Winter blend is reportedly 10-30 cents cheaper, but I would point out that prices have dropped as much as 62 cents at RP.
