Sorry this is a long one. So it has been 2 weeks today since I had a service call with Dish. The guy was great, checked everything, Dish, cabling, signal strength, receivers, etc... He replaced the Hopper with Sling since he could not find any other source of my intermittent issues. 12 days after the replacement receiver was installed (Saturday evening) we turn on the Wireless Joey in the master bedroom. It comes on normally and we attempt to watch a DVR'd program. About 30-60 seconds after accessing the DVR the image freezes and then goes black. A new message then pops up in the lower right corner of the screen. "Please wait, refresh in progress", it flashed this message for about 15-20 minutes and I decided to watch some Netflix on the Roku instead.

I later came back to the Wireless Joey and it was working normally, BUT this unexpected "Please Wait" garbage is the kind of thing that is causing issues in my marriage. My wife has not been impressed with Dish so far ( intermittent issues since getting the Hopper over a year ago) and she does not understand my loyalty to Dish. I know that the Hopper is worlds better than the WOW cable DVR that she is talking about replacing Dish with but cannot make her understand that. She wants it to work EVERY TIME she turns it on, and I can't say that I blame her. I have a large library of archived content on external HD's that would go away if we got rid of Dish. I need the Dish equipment to work EVERY time she(or I) turn it on. This is frustrating and I am getting tired of the "why do we have Dish" conversations with the wife. I NEVER had ANY issues with my old 722 receiver (had it for 10 years).

Does anyone know what "Refresh in Progress" means, there is no error number, just the message on the black screen in the lower right corner.

The WAP is about 6-7 feet from the Hopper on the first floor. The wireless Joey's are on the second floor. The tech verified that I have good signal from the WAP to the Joey's (58-63 normally). I don't get why this equipment will work perfectly for 2 weeks, no errors at all, then it does it JUST when the wife is trying to use it. It pisses her off, and frustrates me.

The Hopper used to be connected by WiFi to our WOW internet ARRIS modem. You told me that the ARRIS modem was incompatible with the Hopper. I ran an ethernet cable from the ARRIS modem to an ASUS RT-68 router and set that up as a WiFI access point to isolate the Hopper from the ARRIS modem. I have continued to try and fix things only to find that the issues continue. I have swapped wireless Joey's from one bedroom to another so I doubt that it is the Joey.

Could it be an issue with the WAP? that seems to be the only link left that has not been changed or checked.

I had to connect my ARRIS Modem directly to my Hopper 3 on the advice from my ISP. Very strong Signal

I understand that as I was told there were wifi issues with the ARRIS modem, that is why I connected an ASUS RT-68 router to the ARRIS modem by ethernet, and the Hopper is connected to the wifi signal of the ASUS not the ARRIS. I was told that would fix the issue. I guess I could have gotten a long ethernet cable to connect directly to the ARRIS but I had the ASUS just sitting around so decided to use that instead to isolate the Dish system from the wifi that the rest of the house uses. The Hopper is the ONLY device connected to the ASUS wifi, everything else in the house is connected to the ARRIS wifi, and they are running on different channels.

Have you considered Powerline Ethernet adapters to run a Joey off Ethernet? Before I got my Firestick, I had my Joey plugged directly into ethernet on the home network. Worked flawlessly. Now I have the Firestick to do the same thing and save the $7 a month I was paying for the Joey. The powerline ethernet adapters worked very well for me and they are pretty cheap these days.

[/QUOTEI could get a connection wirelessly for a few hours, but then when my wife would want to watch Netflix on our Joey, there was no connection. So, I went to my ISPs website and chatted. I told them my issues, and the tech support chat advised me to plug in my extender, which was the ARRIS, into the back of the Hopper 3. It has been connected ever since. And like I said before, the signal is very strong. I am very pleased with my ISP. I was even considering dropping Frontier to go to Mediacom Internet.

Well, the damn thing has been working ok through the Christmas Holiday, which I guess is good as the wife has been stuck in bed with a broken ankle, and I would not have heard the end of it if the Wireless Joey had acted up at all. But every time I think it is working well, it acts up. I guess I will still call and see about a replacement WAP.

Well, I hate to say anything to jinx this but my wireless joey issues seem to be resolved. I don't know if it was the new hopper with sling they swapped out, or the snap the tech installed with it, (or a combination of the two) but it has been running pretty smoothly for about 6 weeks now.

I did notice that even with the Snap installed there is a lag when doing the 30 second skip, and pressing the skip button multiple times quickly did seem to make the joey lose its mind. (I used to press it 7 times in a row quickly as most commercial breaks were approx. 3.5 minutes long) I have been careful to press the skip button once, and wait for it to actually show a picture on the screen before hitting skip again. If it gets too far ahead of itself it will show black screen and take a few seconds to show a picture again.

Overall the wife has been relatively happy with it since I have not had to reset everything at least once every 2 weeks. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Terrible tragedy. You would think that they would have safe guards in place that would prevent something like this from happening. I guess if you are going to ride in a passenger train it might be best to get a car near the rear.

It's probably been 2 decades since I've listened to an AM radio station. Very rarely listen to FM any more.

That goes for a lot of people. I've been advertising on radio for more than a decade now and am very familiar with this subject. While it is still a valuable tool, it has far less impact than it did just a few years ago. The best reaction I get is from a local Country music station....they play a mix of older and newer music and have a very big footprint.

Do you do any Ad's on Satellite ?

If Not, why not, because it's not Local ?

No, just regular FM stations. One is the country station I mentioned and the other is a Talk Radio station which used to get fantastic results but honestly, since the death of Rush Limbaugh, talk radio just doesn't do as well. There were two guys who had an early morning show which was hugely popular here in the southeast but one of them retired a couple years ago and the show just doesn't garner the same numbers as it used to.

You knew the answer before you asked it.

I can't recall having encountered a local ad on Sirius, and I don't imagine it is any different on XM.

For those dazn nba channels are they sat only or sat & streaming
K
Both, and they just made it official with a multiyear deal that also includes TV Everywhere authentication for the DAZN app, and commercial distribution.

DIRECTV, the premier provider of digital television entertainment in the United States, and DAZN, the world's leading sports entertainment platform, today announced a new multi-year distribution agreement for local telecasts of Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana Pacers, Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves, and San Antonio Spurs games for DIRECTV streaming, satellite, and U-verse customers in each team's respective NBA-designated home territories.

These DAZN telecasts will be available to DIRECTV customers who subscribe to the Choice or higher packages and to U-verse TV customers who subscribe to the U200 or higher package. Each of DAZN's team services provides live pregame, postgame, and in-game coverage for the respective team.

In the coming weeks, customers who receive access to these teams via DIRECTV will also be able to login to the DAZN platform at no additional cost using their DIRECTV login credentials.

This agreement also provides distribution rights to each of the five NBA teams to all of DIRECTV FOR BUSINESS' thousands of sports bars, restaurants, fitness clubs, and other commercial venues located within each team's respective region.

I know HipKat said that they were working on conversions but we got the official news yesterday right from Dish that starting next month all DMA's will be on the western arc, and all customers will be assigned to that. That's gonna mean a lot of customers around here aren't gonna get Dish unless there are exceptions. Too many mountains and trees.

I watch mostly SD channels (H&I, Start and ION, etc.). There are plenty of advertisers, this time of the year it is mostly Medicare Advantage plans, auto extended warranties and the occasional walk-in-tub. They know who is watching.
