I'm stunned, ESPN and it's other channels are my most watched, especially on the weekends, football, baseball, Formula One, etc.

I am pissed and don't know if I'm gonna be able to stay with Dish over this.

No way they have always done this and I love and support it 100% otherwise our rates would be crazy high!

They have always done this... And other providers do too... But Dish says all the right things... End of the day... Prices never go down (Usually up) and we keep losing channels while paying a higher amount

typical answer when someone has a different opinion

you probably don't pay for your dish service so it makes no difference to you
but for those of us that have been through this crap for years all in the name of "keeping prices low" are worn out with it
paying the same monthly fee for lesser channels is not good business for the customer. For me, the loss of these channels
represents a loss of approximately 10% of the service that I pay for. Is Dish going to reduce my bill by 10%. No they will not
They may offer a few dollars for a month or 2 or offer the dreamscapes or what ever they are called, but nothing that amounts to anything

alternately, those that live in rural areas and do not have access to cable or fast internet have no options other than Dish or Direct
just like the hopper+ advertised as the next great creation by Dish, yet those that have made the jump would hardly agree
Is Dish going to refund their money.......I doubt it very much
Actually, I paid full price for my Dish service when I had Dish service. I left Dish over 2 years ago for 100% streaming for a fraction of the price with 10 times the service and viewing pleasure. I personally don't know why anyone with great internet would continue to pay over $100 a month to watch 7 channels of Pay TV and those that live in areas without great internet need to be introduced to Starlink.

The fact is, this shutdown was barely a minute old before some people were crying about how the sky was falling, and for someone who has been through this "for years" should know that in almost every case, the disputes are typically resolved rather quickly and might just want to take a pause and see what happens before they start ringing the alarm bells

The issue with this one is it was such a surprise, and it happened on a saturday during college football season, which is one thing that many that still pay for live tv want to see, well, live. They had little time or recourse to find alternatives for those games if they werent already set up with or familiar with streaming services.

Had it happened on say a wednesday, I doubt the outcry would have been as severe, and some that did swap, would have waited until the weekend or close to it before pulling the plug.

So do you think:
A) When the two signed the very first contract, they looked ahead to say "ok, when this expires in 2022, it will happen on a Saturday"? Assuming they keep doing the same dates (starting Oct 1 for three years), that means the last time the contract would have expired on Sept 30, 2019... a Monday.
B) There is language in the contract that prevents Dish from indicating the contract is about to expire?

Yes. They saw an opportunity with how the date aligned with the contract expiration and rolled with it. Otherwise they could have agreed to keep the channels on past the expiration while negotiating, which happens all the time.

Or, the negotiations were going on for so long with neither side budging, so they decided to use this step. It apparently worked.

Apparently it did. Channel owners have all the leverage, able to pit the service providers' customers directly against them. It's no wonder TV retransmission prices have more than doubled the rate of inflation over the last decade or more (let alone the fiscal irresponsibility of wildly outbidding each other for exclusive content).

Really? MVPDs have no leverage whatsoever? So why is there any negotiation? Why can't the channel owners just say "we want $100 per subscriber per month"? The MVPDs have BIG leverage. They can say "no". People on here seem to be proud that Dish has been willing to say no. If that's not leverage, I'm not sure what is.

And really? Comparing to the level of inflation? I'm pretty sure many products have done that. Now, I totally agree with you about the high dollar amounts paid for exclusive content.

Dish says no a lot of the time, but every time Dish loses an important channel(s), then they lose subs. If Dish raises their fees, then a lot of people want to cut the cord. They can't win...

This is true. It's hard to win with a product that is approaching obsolescence. We're approaching the days where satellite TV is only the best option for consumers who don't have good high speed internet options.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Season 2 order already in hand:

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

There would still be dirt ,dust in the future I am sure. So walking around the station like she did she would get stuff on her feet. I am sure the robot vacuum is still going to miss stuff, with all those different alien species running around there.

Where is it going to come from -- specifically?

Why do you think cleaning technology won't improve in the next few hundred years? HEPA filtration was invented as part of the Manhattan Project.

I don't know, but I still don't like her walking through the station or the academy with out her shoes. It looks unprofessional and very "hippy like" for someone of her status and I personally don't get off to feet, so there is that. ;)

Stay out of my office. I rarely have shoes or socks on in the office. My office and business is at home though :clapping

In Oregon, our premium boat gas is about a dollar more than our corn premium. Several stations only offer the non-corn premium grade.

It turns out I was justified in my suspicion.

Gavin Newsom somehow authorized the temporary move of the distribution date of the Winter blend to September 28th.

Since it was already "paid" for, I spent the two hours of my time watching the John Cena action movie on Apple TV, "Matchbox The Movie" even though the reviews were brutal. It was better than I expected, so I didn't feel like I had wasted an afternoon watching it. But it felt like another "Reacher"/"Neghley"/"Mission: Impossible"/"Fast & Furious" crash and blow stuff up with lots of automatic gunfire mixed in movie featuring covert CIA operatives.

I don't think we'll get a follow-up movie from this. I expect Mattel will have other toy lines to exploit.

PISTONS and THUNDER are finally testing on the stream server. PISTONS is showing the Ion/Scripps Sports promo loop filler that their NHL and WNBA feeds have, THUNDER has a "You are watching Thunder+" slate

The Clippers still haven't officially announced their TV plans beyond 10 simulcasts on KTLA, but the NBA's FAQ for ClipperVision is now live. The CLIPPERS feed is currently showing a loop of their Hawaii preseason game.

The Heat still haven't announced their West Palm Beach or Fort Myers affiliates. Since WPLG is streaming the games for free via their app, I doubt we'll be seeing the return of WPLG on stream.

So far nothing testing for the Bucks, Magic, Hawks or Hornets.

West Palm Beach is getting it on WTCN-CD/43 MNT. Still nothing for Fort Myers

Also, the Thunder's deal for KSBI/52 OKC and KQCW/19 Tulsa will be via a special cable and DIRECTV only feed of those stations. OTA viewers and Dish customers will be limited to 10 games.

It's only available for streaming customers, they still haven't added that batch of CW stations to satellite.

Even if it was, satellite customers still can't stream their CW affiliates via the app, just the Big 4, select PBS stations and some independents (mainly the ones that have full season NHL/NBA rights)
